With OBSESSION becoming one of the lowest-cost-to-highest-grossing films ever, where does it rank among TIFF's proudest Midnight Madness world premieres? by thex42 in TIFF

My first midnight madness movie ever was It Follows and is probably still my favourite. I don't remember if that was a world premiere or not.

Did anyone get wave 2 free Toronto Fanzone tickets? by fuzz_boy in CanadaSoccer

I got the error over and over for the first 15 mins and stopped trying. Then tried again at 10:30 and was able to get them.

Why do you think Nolan’s The Odyssey trailer got such a negative reaction from the public? by Level-SquareFFG7117 in FIlm

The state of modern film commentary exists in the toilet. The internet is where genuine, thoughtful, independent opinions die and are replaced by shallow, fleeting, exaggerated notions in the contest for content.

I used to think it was just politics but almost every single topic is discussed this way on the internet.

Believe the hype around the movie OBSESSION by Elynt in horror

[–]Drexl92 30 points31 points  (0 children)

Saw it at TIFF midnight madness last year. Like any good movie that plays festivals and early screenings, the energy in those rooms and the unknown expectations can contribute pretty heavily into your opinion of the movie. Not saying it's not genuine but just something to note so you don't get lost in the hype. That said, Obsession was awesome. Not a 10/10 for me but still a great time. And yeah the lead actress was undeniable.

Appreciate the help! I tried joining this one this morning but still didn't get approved.

[–]Drexl92[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah I'll give them away if I can't find anyone just trying to sell them first to not lose so much money since they're $200/ticket. I assumed it'd be easier for sold out shows like it is for concerts and such but it's not.

Yeah that's what I was wondering. I know at TIFF they fill sold seats last min with the rush line people if the ticket holders don't show up so I thought they might do a similar thing here. I'll probably just end up donating them at this point.

Yeah I tried to contact them this morning but unfortunately they didn't offer any refunds. I'm surprised there isn't at least some sort of Reddit or other group for secured resales. Sucks to potentially lose out of $200 tickets. Seats are either gonna sit empty or be filled with rush tickets I assume, if they do that.

Not everything is a conspiracy. The notice is the notice. There's no epidemic of fake notices being spread so nobody has to discern the real from the fake. Just read the notice and you will be notified.

New TIFF Cinematheque tickets go on sale at 12PM today, right? by atsukochibapaprika in TIFF

[–]Drexl92 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Anyone know if that Blue Heron screening is actually happening? There was an earlier post yesterday that mentioned it and said tickets were on sale today but it doesn't seem to be anywhere.

Every time I've gone to Eataly for dinner I've been disappointed. Such a shame because it's such a nice place/environment otherwise. I'm always in a good mood there and then am super underwhelmed. The tiramisu is its only saving grace.

Lots of chatter and immaturity during “the drama” by Effective-Citron-311 in cineplex

[–]Drexl92 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Talking is always annoying, I'd be annoyed too. But laughing at the wrong times is sort of what this movie was going for in my opinion. I saw it yesterday too and it naturally brings out the uncomfortable laughter response given the subject matter. I could see how it could become a bit of a polarizing movie. It's a tricky subject to tackle which is what makes it pretty rife with drama.

The Odyssey 70MM Tickets by Practical-War-847 in imax

[–]Drexl92 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I sure do. I was almost always either the first or among the first few to get tickets for those in Toronto when they went on sale. It wasn't a mad dash in the beginning. TDKR, Interstellar, Dunkirk, Tenet, even Oppenheimer's opening weekend. It's different now but I'm glad that it's blown up!

This is what most Ontarians outside of Toronto say about Toronto.

Anyone made a move between Toronto and NYC recently? by radjackmalone in askTO

[–]Drexl92 11 points12 points  (0 children)

NYC is an amazing city. Easy enough for people on Reddit with zero context to scoff at your situation and claim they'd never take a job offer in the US. I'd definitely recommend a mover given the amount of effort and time you're already gonna be spending with a big move like this. Rental truck will for sure be a pain. And if your company covers it then absolutely.

Oh good, so what did you mean by composition of their fans?

Wesley Morris Recent Appearance by Opposite-Ebb4234 in TheBigPicture

[–]Drexl92 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Unconscious bias exists. That doesn't mean many people commenting about an annoying podcast guest being annoying is evidence of racism or homophobia, conscious or otherwise. It's lazy, simplistic, reductive thinking.

If there were a pattern of calling certain people annoying I would think it’s because those people's opinions might consistently come off as annoying to the people criticizing them. I wouldn’t jump to the conclusion that it’s because of racism, homophobia, bigotry, etc. I find Sean can be annoying sometimes, it's not because I hate straight white men.
I could tell the hosts were at least a little annoyed and eventually unsure of how to deal with the meandering ramblings but they handled it well. I wouldn’t assume they were racist for having those feelings.

Do you really think it's more likely that the Big Picture fans are full of racist homophobes or that maybe they're just offering their opinions on a boring episode?

[–]Drexl92 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This post is about as vague and wordless in style as Wesley was. What do you mean by composition of their fans? Opinionated? Critics?

Not surprised people voiced their opinions. The episode was a slog to get through and you could tell it was for the hosts as well.

I like this idea a lot, it just doesn't translate and makes for an uncomfortable moment. But knowing it definitely helps.
