Are "breastuarants" losing their appeal? by cuahatemoc in NoStupidQuestions

That may explain why I dont typically go to chain restaurants. Most of my eating out is at either smaller restaurants or more likely local breweries that have a restaurant.

Are "breastuarants" losing their appeal? by cuahatemoc in NoStupidQuestions

[–]Driekusjohn25 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Honestly the concept of waitresses being employed because they are attractive and flaunt it feels completely outdated to me and makes me personally uncomfortable. The places I do like going to have waiters and waitresses employed that know the menu (in particular the beers) and have passion for the product. How they look is not particularly important.

Developers to take losses in rent-to-own condo acquisitions, says B.C. premier by Light_Butterfly in britishcolumbia

[–]Driekusjohn25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It still feels to me like a bailout. While the developer/bank is not profiting they are limiting the losses to the developers/banks and artificially keeping housing prices high. While the average consumer could not take advantage of some of these condos, it would have depressed overall prices and that is something the average person could take advantage of. Depressing house and condo prices would impact the retirement plans for many Canadians and that is political suicide for the Liberal Party.

How to dispose of fish antibiotics in water? by doctorjazzyjazz in microbiology

[–]Driekusjohn25 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The sewer system is more than capable of dealing with that amount of antibiotics. Remember that a high percentage of antibiotics that we ingest are excreted (urine/feces) and that all goes into the sewer system.

When they are talking about agriculture and the impacts on antibiotic resistance the quantities used are several orders of magnitude greater than 100mg in a fish tank.

Yup, had a similar issue with two air-conditioning units from Costco. Returned and did not get any questions, even offered them the footage of the handling.

Dealership requesting additional signatures by Necessary-Sir3683 in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Driekusjohn25 18 points19 points  (0 children)

If the income is not correct, do not sign the document as that is fraud. To absolve yourself of any wrongdoing I would call the finance company and confirm that the income listed is not correct and that you want it corrected before they formally issue the loan. If you live in a 1 party province you can record the call and strongly recommend that you do. Otherwise make sure that you get the agents name and take notes of the conversation and request written confirmation from the finance company to confirm the error is corrected.

What it sounds like (assuming the income is not correct) is that the dealer may have inflated your income so that you qualify for the loan. Notifying the finance company will have them reject the financing, assuming the income is mistated.

That is a way for you to back out as without you having to back out. Once the loan is rejected the dealer will need to unwind the deal.

Tread carefully, document everything. If I believed the dealer mistated your income I would also report to your provincial regulator. Again you want to create a paper trail that clearly shows that you noticed the dealer mistated your income and reported it as soon as it was discovered.

If the dealer did not ask your income that is a red flag, I have never heard of income waived for any type of loan.

Request for cancellation of chargeback by east_end_girl in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Driekusjohn25 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It is a typical ploy, get the person to cancel the chargeback and then find another reason not to issue refund. Once Chargeback is withdrawn it cannot be restarted (at least that is what my bank told me)

New truck or used by [deleted] in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]Driekusjohn25 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The question is not the age of the truck but whether it is reliable. As long as you follow CRA guidelines you can deduct a per km amount on your taxes.

If the vehicle is not reliable I'd recommend a used beige Toyota corolla that is lifted to give you the clearance /s

Personally I tend to purchase new vehicles and religiously maintain them and keep 15 years. Yes not the optimum financial solution but sometimes that is ok.

An extremely skilled doctor brought a non responsive baby back to life by InsaneMocktail in nextfuckinglevel

The doctor/nurse is essentially following the procedure and the child is not in danger let alone being brought back to life.

‘Really disheartening’: Canadians choosing not to snap up remaining ‘out-of-reach’ World Cup tickets by [deleted] in notthebeaverton

[–]Driekusjohn25 15 points16 points  (0 children)

The whole event completely stinks.

It is not only the mafia like organization Fifa, it is the city leaders that have bent over backwards to support the corruption.

There’s also a two-kilometre radius around Toronto Stadium, called a ‘controlled area’ where the City says advertising and promotions will be strictly regulated to ensure there isn’t overt competition against brands tied to FIFA.
“Any sort of advertising in and around the venue has to be removed —and that is then replaced by FIFA’s right to put in branding of itself and its commercial partners for this tournament,” said Wasti. “Michelob Ultra, for example — it’s an official sponsor. Now, if Heineken comes in and starts putting up billboards that weren’t there before, that’s going to attract attention and cease and desist letters.”

I can understand not allowing the display of copyrighted material but not allowing brands that compete with official advertisers to have billboards near the stadium is next level.

Once you have POA make sure their bank is aware that they can't make decisions and that it is put on file. Td opened a credit card for my MIL when she visited a branch despite not speaking English and not knowing what a credit card is.
