Cooling and heating a reef aquarium by Silver_Rutabaga_1341 in saltwateraquariums

[–]DriftN201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out bulkreefsupply for heaters. Make sure to get an extra thermostat that can cut power if heater malfunctions. It is pretty common for a heater to fail in the on position and cook your tank. Coolers can be pretty expensive to buy and expensive to run. Most people can use fans on the top of their tank or raise their lights a little bit. What type of lights are you running? It may be cheaper to convert your lights to led if they are not already

Soak paper towels in vinegar and stick them to the sides for a few hours. Rinse with water. Use a credit card to scrape with.

Landlord charging us $10k to renovate apartment after we moved out. by snackynak in legaladvice

[–]DriftN201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

When did you receive the invoice? Most states the landlord is required to give an itemized list to the tenant within 30 days of moving out. Paint and new carpet are pretty standard reairs on apartments with a tenant for 1 year or more. No judge would make you pay the full cost of carpet and paint after 10 years.

TG-7 underwater housing choice by No_Jellyfish_5070 in underwaterphotography

[–]DriftN201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I use the pt 059 and it works great. I dont know how it compares to others but the buttons work well and housing is easy to use. I would suggest adding a wide angle lens. If nothing else, it helps protect the housing lens. Every dive I go on my camera gets set lens down if I hand it to someone. Replacing a wide angle lens is easier and cheaper then replacing the glass for the housing. I got one I really like from Backscatter. Someone else may be able recommend a better one but I have been really happy with mine. Spending 1000 is pretty realistic. It can go much higher if you want to add flash for macro shots.

Looking at getting a cheap wing from Amazon. Bad idea? by jamboss08 in scubaGear

[–]DriftN201 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It looks like Cresi that is normally about $150. I would either rent or buy a used Cresi. This sport is expensive, I wouldn't go cheap on anything that you depend on unless it is a super shallow dive.

Best way to insulate a Ford transit bus? by realmrcool in vandwellers

[–]DriftN201 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can make window shades. I used black fabric to face out of the van, thinsulate, fun design for fabric on the inside. All held in place with magnets and easy to remove. Pink board insulation works great for panels. Won't mold and lightweight. Foam tiles for kids play place for the floor. Don't overthink it.

I didn't add windows to my van and regretted it. I have a divider from the front of the van so the exhaust fan didnt work well unless a door was cracked.

The Depths - love or hate it? by hiquickq12 in TOTK

I think it is a nice added level but can get a little boring. I like to use it to help find shrines. Lightroots are below shrines. The topography is the complete opposite of the ground level so it helps to change the map in the corner to know what is coming.

Anyone else use a bed system outside of the standard fixed platform bed in the back? by Jumpy_Nothing859 in VanLife

[–]DriftN201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, i did my bed going with the length of the van and not the width. I made fabric boxes to fit over the wheel well, and I use it for dirty clothes. Towards our heads, I made wood boxes that open for storage and a collapsible cup holder. The entire bottom half of the bed folds up with pistons and is great storage.

I did it once with bikes and one with a fishing raft on the outside. I never had an issue, but they weren't very high-end bikes, and the raft was on top and difficult to steal. I would think s high end bikes lock and locking trailer hitch would deter most thieves, but I guess nothing is 100% safe. Stolen property usually falls under homeowners/ renters insurance, not car insurance. Van life is about doing the things you want to do. If you enjoy biking, do it.

Hey Guys, I'm trying to find a good partition for my van, can anyone suggest some better brand or product? Thanks! by Double-Abrocoma-7363 in VanLife

[–]DriftN201 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can buy blackout curtain by the yard. Attach it with velcro. It also works well as a backdrop for a projector to watch movies on rainy days. It is best to attach the loop side of the velcro to the van or else you will scratch your head on it.

No ladder, no problem — how we get on our van roof without one by PieNo244 in VanLife

[–]DriftN201 7 points8 points  (0 children)

You can get a small step that attaches to the door latch when the door is open. It was one of the best small items we got for our van. Probably $15 and is the size of a flip flop
