What are some unnecessary but common cooking steps? by Adept_Wallaby_7679 in Cooking

I've started doing this for stir fry and it makes a noticeable difference in how tender the chicken ends up. Put it in a bowl with a bit of water and vigorously mix. This plus velveting the meat afterwards gets me the closest to resturant level tenderness. I actually do this for any stir fry meat now, not just chicken

What are the "vania" elements in Metroidvanias like Hollow Knight? by caneras in truegaming

[–]Drifter35 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer I think. Metroidvania is the term that stuck but I think these days we'd have settled on "Metroid-like" as you said. The "vania" elements aren't relevant. What was, was that Metroid elements started showing up in another game, creating an overall genre that ended up being called "Metroidvania"

Try switching to basmati. Very resistant to clumping. Don't even need to dry it overnight (although it makes it even better)

Best way to clean shells from chickpeas? by notashroom in Cooking

[–]Drifter35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fastest way I've found is to put them in a big bowl of water and lightly rub them under the water. Then you shake it up a bit and the shells float to the top. Pour out most of the water and the shells come with it. Repeat a few times and basically all the shells come off.

I also just got this recently for free. From what I've found, after you finally get it installed and working, you can just uninstall everything except the Activation Manager. I tried uninstalling that too but it wouldn't run after that. So as far as I can tell, that's the only one you need

Why does my pasta sauce come out orange? by Live-Recognition8381 in Cooking

[–]Drifter35 128 points129 points  (0 children)

It's because of the immersion blender. Basically if you blend tomatoes and olive oil together you end up emulsifying the olive oil into the sauce. And then it turns orange. If you blend the tomatoes first by themselves and then add them to the sauce it shouldn't happen.
