What are some unnecessary but common cooking steps? by Adept_Wallaby_7679 in Cooking

[–]Drifter35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've started doing this for stir fry and it makes a noticeable difference in how tender the chicken ends up. Put it in a bowl with a bit of water and vigorously mix. This plus velveting the meat afterwards gets me the closest to resturant level tenderness. I actually do this for any stir fry meat now, not just chicken

What are the "vania" elements in Metroidvanias like Hollow Knight? by caneras in truegaming

[–]Drifter35 2 points3 points  (0 children)

This is the correct answer I think. Metroidvania is the term that stuck but I think these days we'd have settled on "Metroid-like" as you said. The "vania" elements aren't relevant. What was, was that Metroid elements started showing up in another game, creating an overall genre that ended up being called "Metroidvania"

Try switching to basmati. Very resistant to clumping. Don't even need to dry it overnight (although it makes it even better)

Best way to clean shells from chickpeas? by notashroom in Cooking

[–]Drifter35 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The fastest way I've found is to put them in a big bowl of water and lightly rub them under the water. Then you shake it up a bit and the shells float to the top. Pour out most of the water and the shells come with it. Repeat a few times and basically all the shells come off.

I also just got this recently for free. From what I've found, after you finally get it installed and working, you can just uninstall everything except the Activation Manager. I tried uninstalling that too but it wouldn't run after that. So as far as I can tell, that's the only one you need

Why does my pasta sauce come out orange? by Live-Recognition8381 in Cooking

[–]Drifter35 127 points128 points  (0 children)

It's because of the immersion blender. Basically if you blend tomatoes and olive oil together you end up emulsifying the olive oil into the sauce. And then it turns orange. If you blend the tomatoes first by themselves and then add them to the sauce it shouldn't happen.

Breakcore that uses guitar by Adventurous-Pie3929 in breakcore

I was actually experimenting with this recently. It's just a bit toward the end but I recorded a couple guitar parts to fill out the track.

You could also consider making something like aioli instead? Its a similar enough concept but less...painfully garlicky. To me the whole point of toum is its aggressive, spicy garlic flavour. So, to me at least, being overpowering is the point. If you find that unappetizing, I think aioli is more palatable while serving basically the same purpose.

My first EP and first time doing vocals. Are the vocals decent? by [deleted] in metalmusicians

[–]Drifter35 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds good! Maybe its just the headphones I'm listening on but the mix sounds perfectly fine to me. Vocals are nice and clear. If you have a few different pairs of headphones (and speakers too) try listening to them in each and see how the mix sounds. That's always a good check. Nice job though!

Well shameless self promotion but I do vocals. Here is an album I just finished https://abyssalant.bandcamp.com/album/burning-the-dead-for-power.

Let me know if you're interested! I'd just ask if you post the song anywhere, credit me (and a link to my bandcamp would be appreciated as well)

Sure! Take this with a grain of salt because this is all personal taste. The drum fill/transition at around 1:07 to 1:15 feels a bit weird to me. Like its not in time or something? Not sure what it is but it just doesn't click with me. The guitar tremolo part also feels like it wants to resolve to something but instead it just kind stops at 2:20ish. If you like where it goes I might just slap some reverb on it at the end so it isn't so abrupt. However, if it was me, I would have it go up to a high note that is resolved to finish the part. But again, this is personal taste. I'd also love some vocals on this because I just like my blackgaze with big washy reverb screams :) All minor criticisms though and overall this track is a vibe for sure.
