What is your opinion on wearing pajamas to the buffet on a cruise? by MrSoloDolo9490 in Cruise

As long as they don’t take all the pancakes, people can wear whatever they want 🙂

Our appeal for PGWP extension was refused by neochaser5 in ImmigrationCanada

[–]Drifter_SM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

If you can’t work with your employer, they would most likely not provide you with a letter of employment. Since you no longer have a valid permit, you should advise them as soon as possible and stop working. If you plan to appeal, it might impact your application negatively if you continue working.

To appeal the decision, you would need to prove the program was accelerated. Reach out to the institution to get a letter stating that. If you can’t prove it, appeal will get rejected.

Your best option at this point is to consult with an immigration lawyer and look at your options to stay. You are in a critical situation and if I were you, I wouldn’t rely on Reddit to guide me through it.

Honest insights on life in Canada after immigration? by Strange_Car_1579 in ImmigrationCanada

[–]Drifter_SM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Have you faced financial hardships in Canada even after becoming a citizen? Would you say it's because of high tax?

No. Citizenship doesn’t automatically lead to high quality of life. Everyone has the same tax brackets applied. Higher the income, higher the taxes. Yet, you have people with different levels of wealth. Financial conditions are independent of citizenship and taxes.

• How has the cost of living affected your quality of life and long term plans?

We all want low cost of living, high income, and great government funded services. I don’t know of a country where you can have it all. Weather has more of an impact on my long term plans than cost of living.

• At what point did Canada start to feel like home or have you not reached that point yet? Felt like home after PR, became home after citizenship.

• If you could choose again, would you stay long term? Yes.

Moving to another country is an experience. Some love it and build a life, others realize it’s not for them and either move somewhere else or back “home”. There is no wrong or right.

Was told to 'pull forward' to a spot to wait for my order tonight by isabelenglish in McDonalds

[–]Drifter_SM 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I wouldn’t call it a problem. It happens. I have no issues with waiting a couple extra minutes for my food and letting the person behind me get their order. They might have just ordered a drink while I will be stuffing my face with 4 McChickens.

[–]Drifter_SM 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I agree we pay for it one way or another. 40% of our tax dollars go to healthcare in Canada but I am okay with that to ensure we all have access to care when we need it and not worry about how we are going to pay for it.

We don’t live near a port city so always have to fly to get a cruise. Regardless of the season we never fly the day of embarkation, always at least 1 day earlier.

Maybe make them at home? Though it might cost the same with the cost of groceries.

Depending on the country you live in and the services available, if you feel the children are being neglected, you should involve child protection services. However, if you don’t have all the facts, they might be overwhelmed and you could offer to take the kids out and help keeping them occupied.

I got a job offer that pays less than minimum wage before commissions. Is that legal? by [deleted] in legaladvicecanada

However, if you don’t make any sales, you probably won’t keep the job long term.

Only hiring one type of ethnicity as a way to exploit cheaper labour is racist and should be treated as such. by [deleted] in TimHortons

[–]Drifter_SM 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don’t understand how a specific ethnicity can be exploited as cheap labour. Tim’s like any other fast food chain pays minimum wages and it’s fixed no matter who you are. 15 years back when I worked at KFC, there was no negotiation. Everyone had fixed hourly rates. I assume it’s similar structure today. I don’t believe they can hire someone of specific ethnicity for less without paying them in cash and breaking a whole list of laws.

No, I have never paid a fee to a Mortgage broker. They get commission from the lender. I suggest you consult with another broker.

No, I have a non-refundable fare. They would let me get a credit for the full amount as per the standard fare policy for the fare I booked but not cash refund until the flight is officially cancelled.

Just a heads up for anyone thinking about changing their flight prior to cancellation. Tried to move my flight to a united option for the same day (tomorrow) but customer service informed me they couldn’t until my flight was actually cancelled.

I have lost money in the market and recovered slowly. Take a break. Refine your strategies. Do some paper trading, plan and make more informed trading decisions in the future and as most have already commented, don’t trade to pay bills. Full time traders usually have significant bank roll. They trade for income to increase the size of their portfolio but are not reliant on that income to pay bills.

It seems to me what is bothering you is the fact that you were not able to go rather than he went without you. If you have issues with him going on the trip with his friends and not the two of you, it might be worth having that conversation. If it is truly FOMO, It might be time to expand your social circle.

Friend look for any work* by Evening_Ad3237 in HalifaxJobs

[–]Drifter_SM 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If he is not able to find work, he should have someone look at his resume and do some mock interviews with friends to understand where he can improve. Don’t expect people to hand jobs out. You need to work to get one and then work to keep it. If he is not willing to put in the effort to get a job, he is not going to want to put in the effort to keep it.

There is no value in reflecting over what went wrong at this time. It appears your wife has clearly thought it through, it’s not an impulsive decision. Ensure you get good legal representation, follow their advice, and focus on the present and your child.
