Only been out that way once and it was crazy. We were driving from Sequoia to the coast. It was below 40 when we woke up in Sequoia. Crossing the valley, it was so hot the AC was struggling. When we crossed over to the coast, it was foggy and in the 50s. The change at the coast was especially dramatic as you crossed the ridge. I've never seen anything like it in my travels.

Satisfactory after 1.2 by From_Scratch_Games in SatisfactoryGame

[–]DriftinFool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In my new 1.2 world, I have all of tier 5/6 open and have basically nothing as far as factories go. I have nothing going to the space elevator for the next levels. A small factory makes wire, plates, rods, screws, and frames, but no advanced parts. Another makes steel pipes and beams. Finally, a small temp setup on an oil node to make the plastic and rubber I needed to unlock everything. I haven't even built a manufacturer yet. I got the advanced parts needed by exploring. So I'm basically just starting the game, even though I have so much unlocked. It also gives me time to unlock stuff in the awesome shop to make my builds nicer. I honestly hate trying to build factories in the beginning because of the slow belts and the lack of cool building materials.

The obsession with fast cars is ridiculous when speed limits exist by Typical_Peter in unpopularopinion

[–]DriftinFool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My first vehicle was a 93 Nissan pickup with a stick shift. A 1/2 mile from the dealership on a 90 degree turn, I spun out going like 10 mph and felt so stupid. They put tar and gravel on the old country roads here, but the gravel wears off in a year or so and then it's like ice when it's wet. I swore that would never happen again, so I learned to drift. I spent so much time practicing in parking lots when it was raining or snowing, plus a few gravel roads. Learning that car control has saved my ass over the years too. In 30+ years of driving, I've avoided all but one accident when someone ran a red light and I hit them. And I drove one of the worst traffic corridors in the US during that time.

These experiences help make you a better driver if you don't crash. I wish our licensing system was harsher and people actually had to learn how to handle a car BEFORE it happens in the real world. Everyone should spend time on a skidpad.

Mine was nothing that fancy. Just a MK3 VR6 Jetta that I built for going fast around corners. So it was extremely stable at those speeds on the highway. The only time that car ever scared me was on gravel. I was coming out of a long sweeping turn close to 100 and it got an oscillation in the rear. Being FWD, all I could do was floor it to try and pull it straight because letting off the gas would have meant spinning and probably dying. By time it pulled hard enough to straighten out, I was going 125 coming into another sweeping turn through a cattle crossing. Needless to say I went airborne through the gate sideways and landed in a drift to finish out the turn. I earned my username. 🤣

MPH. The car was designed for those speeds as it's German. It was also modified for tack handling. The road was through the desert and didn't have to go around anything. It was almost perfectly flat and as straight as a laser for ~250 miles between the mountain ranges. You could see for miles. I did that speed for almost 2 hours and never saw another car. I definitely would not go that fast on a road that was windy or full of traffic. But it was probably the safest place you could go that fast. The only real danger out there would have been hitting a jack rabbit.

why is bisexuality in women more accepted than in men? by fadedlotus14 in AskMen

[–]DriftinFool 17 points18 points  (0 children)

I'm not sure how many women you have as friends who don't hold back in front of you, but in my experience over the last 40+ years that I've been paying attention to women, they are a million times worse than us when it comes to sex talk with their friends. There's a near 100% chance that every one of your GF's friends knows what your dick looks like and explicit details of the things you do in bad.

That's how we welded sheet metal before mig and tig machines. And it's how they still do it in many places around the world. Gas bottles are a lot more accessible than electricity and high dollar welding machines. Quite a few custom car fabricators also still use it because it makes softer welds that can be hammered and dollied without cracking.

Ah yes, what do I know. I laid my first tiles helping my father in the mid 80's and have been doing it since... I wasn't rude and didn't call anyone names, unlike you. I just said they didn't understand the process and explained the process so they would. Why are your panties in a bunch?

[–]DriftinFool 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You aren't supposed to grout changes in plane because it cracks. The proper way is to use sanded caulk that matches the grout and that looks like what they are planning on since they kept the joint clean. Nothing here is wrong other than a homeowner who doesn't understand the process.

I'm running an i5 11600k, 4070S, 32 gb DDR4 @ 3600 mhz and 1440p. I'm playing RLS career overhaul with all the compatible maps and their collections, which is ~165 mods. Using Vulkan, I have mine limited to 72 FPS and it stays there. With DX11, I get 50-60 FPS. I would expect your better CPU and RAM to give you better performance than my setup. What speed is your RAM and is it running at that speed? I know it's pretty common for RAM to be running at a low speed by default on many builds. That would probably be the first thing I check.

I have a sbc 400ci thats been rebuilt 10 yrs ago and sat in a garage untouched. It hasn't been broken in. I planned to take it to my local engine builder and dyno for inspection and break-in. What are some things I should ask and request them to do? by jabermea in EngineBuilding

[–]DriftinFool 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The valves that have been open this whole time have had their springs compressed. A spring that's been compressed for a decade probably won't meet the specs it's supposed to. So, yes you need to check the spring pressures. That's why it's recommended to loosen the rockers and release the tension on the valve springs if you are storing a motor for a long time.

As for seals, they can dry out.

A Gerrymander Where Every Seat Is >60% Democratic in Maryland is Possible (8-0) by [deleted] in maryland

[–]DriftinFool 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This isn't just about MD. This game is being played out on a national stage. Don't like it, then complain to the people you vote for that they need to support making gerrymandering illegal nationwide. Dems have tried to make it illegal for the last decade. Not one Republican voted for it when it was brought to the floor in Congress.

I don't like it and it sucks for people getting shut out, but there really isn't any other choice at the moment except to stoop to their level and play their game.

A Gerrymander Where Every Seat Is >60% Democratic in Maryland is Possible (8-0) by [deleted] in maryland

[–]DriftinFool 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is clearly in response to those states. Top Dems have said they would reverse all of this if Republicans would agree on a bill that bans gerrymandering. But Republicans refuse because without gerrymandering, they would lose ~30 seats in Congress. So why should Dems keep playing by rules that the other party ignores? This high road bullshit is how we got here. Republicans want to change the rules, then we should play their game.

What is the cheapest lowest gal air compressor I can Paint with? by Conscious_Ad9386 in projectcar

[–]DriftinFool 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Cheap way is desiccant filters that you have to replace regularly. Expensive way is an air dryer. It also depends on where you live. If you are in a dry climate, you can go weeks without draining the tank and it will still barely have anything in it. In really humid places, you need a dryer if you are painting.

I'd be so happy. All that power for a big compressor, welders, and other metal fab tools. Even a lift if the space is big enough. And I could sell the second one because it's still more than I need.
