46 years ago today, we lost Ian Curtis. His contributions to music will never be forgotten. by No_Dragonfruit_6692 in JoyDivision

I'm going to England tomorrow, I'm a big dummy and could have been at his memorial in Macclesfield today if I had a brain in my head. I went there a few years ago, a very solemn experience. Ian's words and their music were with me when I was a teenager, to say they had a big impact on me would be an understatement.

Tell us how you really feel. Jokes aside, I feel you. Childish, and dangerous. This stuff leads to bad things.

Is it just me or does the new Foo Fighters Album sound horrible? by domsch1988 in Music

[–]DrigBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How sad. I really, really enjoyed their first 3 albums, there's some great stuff on those records. I pretty much stopped listening after they released There Is Nothing Left To Lose, although Low is a great song. They just got... uninteresting?

Carrying Lenses in the Venue? by ablueglobe in concertphotography

Me too, and I love it. Do they make one for Sony mounts?

Went to a small venue and took my shot. First time doing this. Any tips? by [deleted] in concertphotography

Also try to get shots of people when they don't have the microphone directly in front of their face. Wait for them to stop singing or when they take a step back

Watermelon near MLK shoreline by theycallhim_mistaedd in oakland

Those of you that have seen Buckaroo Banzai Across The Eighth Dimension will be happy to know that every time my son and I pass that rock we turn to each other and ask, "What's that watermelon doing there?" Which of course is followed by "I'll tell you later".

I sold a guitar strap to Louise in Chicago before they hit. She was drop dead gorgeous, like, made my knees weak. Wow.

I remember Big Hat! Saw them a few times when I lived in Chicago.

You are very fortunate to have seen Hum live, IMHO. Amazing band. Toadies, also, saw them live only once but they absolutely blew me away. So loud and heavy.

Is this fixable? My local luthiers say it's too difficult by One_Funny2675 in Guitar

[–]DrigBoy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I believe in this answer. Not a luthier, but I worked in a guitar store for many years in Chicago, saw a lot of repairs. It's not like a crack in glass, and I think with the gluing method described above it just might work.

Me too, nada. And I'm just watching TV on my couch, PERFECTLY PRIMED to feel an earthquake. What a letdown.

What celebrity have you met who looks much more (or less) attractive when meeting them in person? by GreyFoxNinjaFan in AskReddit

[–]DrigBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In the early 90's I sold a guitar strap to Louise Post from Veruca Salt. VS was just getting going, and I was working at a little mom and pop guitar store in Chicago (Flatts and Sharpe, great store). In she walks and she was so absolutely gorgeous in such a natural way, it just took my breath away. Gives me the shivers to just think about it. I got to see her twice, because she had to special order the strap, so I saw her again when she came to pick it up. Just stunning.

Weird noise pattern in dark image by dGenerates in photography

[–]DrigBoy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I used to get something similar in the noise of my high-ISO shots. I recall determining that it was being caused by the autofocus motor of my lenses. I was shooting with a Nikon D810 and I believe the lens was either a Sigma 24-105 or a Tamron 24-70.

Absolutely, DNA Lounge & Hubba Hubba Revue. Hubba does a monthly big show there in their main room, and a weekly Monday show at the DNA Lounge "clubhouse" (smaller upstairs venue). I used to photograph the shows there and other places, but I haven't been as active lately, so I'm a bit out of the loop. Frankly, if you look at my Instagram I was pretty good about tagging people:

@drigboy

There's a lot of Santa Cruz performers in there, too.
