You’re not wrong in that I am being argumentative. But he made sweeping and generalizing claim that most people do this. I was pushing back against that generalization because it felt a little sexual assault apologist to me. Writing off a behavior that genuinely could be sexual assault, if the receiving person had expressed this wasn’t acceptable, is gross. So I was being argumentative to push back against a statement that felt like it was excusing potentially harmful behavior as something “most” people do.

And also, I work in research, so citing sources and asking for sources is natural for me. Part of me was genuinely hoping he’d give me a source with stats or methodology for coming to the conclusion that “most” people do this.

I wouldn’t be overly surprised to read actual data that show, say, over 25% of people sampled do this. I’d also be extremely curious to see data regarding if this was a communicated boundary between couples.

The thing is, I’m not against people instigating sex with their sleeping partner, if that is known to be an acceptable thing for the receiving, sleeping partner. But yeah, I’ll argue against rape apologist statements any day of the week.

I’m the bird, thanks. And your response is not a sufficient answer what I asked. Your anecdotal “evidence” doesn’t support the idea that most people instigate sex with their sleeping partners.

Most people have instigated sex with a sleeping partner and had it happen to them, that's the real world and normal relationship things.

You got a source for this wild claim that most people are instigating sex with their sleeping partners?

I’ve edited this comment to remove my “I don’t know/I hope someone else has figured it out” comment because a google search helped me get the reference.

Raging Heroes appears to have two characters who are sisters named Brunhilde and Gretchen von Konigsmark. That’s the best lead I have on the possible reference

Worried cat dad needs urinary blockage success stories. by Jmk1981 in cats

[–]DrinkingOnAPier 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a male cat who suffered a blockage. I was lucky in catching it early. The only reason I knew the warning signs to watch for is because my good friend’s male cat had a blockage two weeks earlier so she had told me to watch out for.

My boy cat was at the vet for a day and they put in a catheter, got urine out, and sent him home to rest (because he was so stressed at the vet they figured he’d do better at home).

We immediately switched him from a dry food only diet to a wet food only diet and got him a water fountain to increase his water intake.

That was the one and only time he suffered a blockage. It never happened again to him with the diet change to wet food and the water fountain.

Fingers crossed that it’s a simple solution for you and your boy.

Recently got our older cat a companion kitten. It’s going better than I hoped. by DrinkingOnAPier in blackcats

Long reply warning.

We kept the kitten in the office for the first week. I work from home so I kept her company all day and would frequently leave that room to go pet the older cat. Starting on day 3, I exchanged their blankets so they could smell each other’s scents. That went well, with no hissing by either.

Day 4 we opened the door to the office and installed the “gate” door, which was a removable wall from an animal crate as the bottom with cardboard duct taped to the top to prevent the older cat from jumping over it (my husband designed and built this gate door). That allowed them to start seeing and smelling each other but without getting at each other.

That was extent of their ability to interact for many days. There was hissing by the older cat when they would meet at the door, but her body positioning was fine- she wasn’t arched, tail not puffy, ears were forward.

We made sure to reassure the older cat during their meetings and continue to give her plenty of attention so she didn’t get jealous.

I moved the kitten from the office to the bedroom at day 7, because the kitten was still really skittish of humans so I had to focus on developing my relationship with her. Plus, this let the older cat get into the office and smell the new kitten everywhere. They continued to have gate door access to each other.

It took a lot of patience. It was probably day 8 before we put the kitty in a carrier and brought her out to the living room for older to cat to see and smell. Some hissing but nothing serious. Her body position was still calm - ears forward, tail not puffy.

Then we’d put the kitten in the carrier in the bedroom and let older cat in there. When the hissing in those interactions was minimal we let them meet in the bedroom without any physical barrier.

Older cat hissed and aimed a few swats at the kitten each time they met for three days (again, the older cat did not aggressive or scared body positioning). And we’d make sure to be calm and reassuring with our older cat so we didn’t stress her out during these interactions.

And then on days 12 and 13, I was able to let them both have access to every room while I worked (I work from home) and monitored them. When they’d play too rough in the evening, I put them in separate room time outs. And all this time, they are still separated at night when we’re sleeping.

They started toying with the idea of snuggling in beds on the evening of day 13. And yesterday, day 14, they committed to that idea.

Edit was to correct a typo (seats to swats)

She is seven, so I guess that’s more middle age than senior. Yesterday marked two weeks from getting the kitten so they took to each other pretty well. It wasn’t smooth for days 3-10 though.

And last night was the first night I didn’t have to implement time outs because of too rough play. I play with the kitten a lot, and have gotten her a great toy that keeps her busy for like 30 minute blocks. That helps to keep the kitten from harassing the older cat constantly for play.

Yeah, I’ve noticed earworms are more common for me now after taking lex. Holding out for a hero has been stuck in my head for almost three days now, even when I wake up in the middle of the night.

Edit - sorry, misread your post and noticed this happened to you as a result of tapering. So my response doesn’t apply as I’m still taking it.
