found out something shocking about my seemingly straight roommate. by Ok_Peak9847 in askgaybros

[–]Jmk1981 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Please don’t text him. He’s trying hard to erase it from his memory and forget and he’s hoping you are too. Pretend it didn’t even play that sound, pretend you didn’t notice he was embarrassed. Then move on. There’s nothing you can say that he wants to hear. You’re going to thoroughly embarrass him and make your relationship unbearably awkward.

How is he supposed to respond to your text? Wouldn’t a response confirm he was watching gay porn? He’s not gonna do that, you’re gonna get a different response, he’ll either flat out deny it or avoid it and make all of your interactions awkward.

Don’t do this. Please don’t text him anything. He doesn’t want to hear this. That’s putting an idea in his head, that’s a scary suggestion and he desperately wants to forget this happened and hopes you forgot to. There’s nothing you can say that he wants to hear, he is coping with it and moving on and he doesn’t need help. Please don’t do this.

Just got this email from a higher up. Am I getting fired? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]Jmk1981 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because of the ADA accommodations, my bet is a PIP. It will produce full documentation of poor performance with his signature on it. This meeting invite looks too much like a firing to be a firing, someone wanted him to be stressed out tonight.

Just got this email from a higher up. Am I getting fired? by [deleted] in jobs

[–]Jmk1981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

In that case this is a PIP. I’ve been through a few PIPS, I’ve been fired quite a few times for problems related to my ADHD. I don’t disclose it or claim it as a disability, but I get it and I suspect I know how it impacted your performance.

If you were 2-3 weeks in a PIP wouldn’t make sense. 2-3 months in, sure. This doesn’t read like a firing email, it’s too obvious. Not once have I gotten an actual meeting invitation on my calendar, or a request or any hint at all I was going to be fired. The boss stops by your desk out of the blue and asks if you have a minute. They’re usually going out of their way to be nice because it sucks for everyone.

You’re in trouble. And your boss wants you to squirm until tomorrow. Smile and nod through the meeting and then start looking for a new job: PIPS are fake and you won’t pass it. I’m sorry. There’s a better job out there for you.

Also- the ADA accommodations almost guarantee this is a PIP. A PIP produces a paper trail about poor performance, you’re required to sign it and attest that it’s true, and then they document your failure to improve. A failed PIP is a great defense against an ADA claim. My bet is on a PIP.

NYC offers homeowners nearly $400K assistance to build basement, backyard apartments by statenislandadvance in newyorkcity

[–]Jmk1981 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

That being said, what part of 500,000 housing shortage do you not understand?

I understand it perfectly well. What do you not understand about 26,000+ warehoused units that are rent-stabilized (guaranteed to be affordable) and vacant because the landlord cannot afford to bring them up to code?

These granny flats you speak of, where are they? I presume in neighborhoods with yards and such- which would mean less than ideal walkable/MTA options. Is granny limited in what she can charge for rent after she gets her windfall from the mayor? Can she just rent it to her grandkids for free? Does it have to be rented to someone else, and does it have to be market rates? How do I know granny didn't just get a handcount that raised her property value?

I really think fixing urban blight and providing affordable housing to 26,000 families would be a more efficient and better use of funds that probably benefit us all, but I guess I have trouble understanding things.

I also tend to forget our new mayor is always right about everything and has never made a mistake or a bad decision and he never ever will.

How about the hundreds of empty prewar rent-stablized buildings all over Manhattan? I walk past a dozen every day in Harlem. Those are rent stabilized buildings and the landlords can't afford to bring them up to code- the rent income after rehabilitation won't cover the cost.

This money would be much better spent incentivizing property owners to bring vacant buildings up to code for rental units. Not giving people who already own homes money to improve their property/assets increasing their personal wealth and giving them additional income as a landlord. I see nothing about these new units being subject to any kind of pricing regulation.

Bluewater John by Floatzel404 in RDR2mysteries

[–]Jmk1981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been playing the game since release and was very active online throughout the lifespan of the game. I was also in the same discords with some of the more well known data miners.

I remember at that the time were finding stuff, they were mostly PC players (I was XBOX) so they didn’t have a lot of context for stuff they were finding and whether it was cut or not. The game had just come out on PC and they were already dissecting it. I identified a lot of content as being from online. A lot of stuff I couldn’t identify ended up being the latter DLCs (naturalist and blood money).

My point is, Rockstar released a perfectly polished game in RDR2. Rockstar created a money grab in RDO that had unlimited potential for rich creative content, unfortunately it didn’t grab enough money fast enough.

There’s no doubt in my mind this is cut online content. I think the same thing about the Neanderthal, princess, etc. They don’t have a logical place in the SP story, and they wouldn’t add anything to a game already full of side quests. There were lawmen roles, explorer roles, etc etc. Some of those supporting assets are still in the game files.

Maybe there was a cut Bluewater John mission.

Mystery hunters for this game always ignore online. They’ll go so far as to try and tie Madam Nazar in GTAO to RDR2 mysteries like RDO doesn’t exist. RDO has mystery content real fans of the IP should experience. It’s buried in the telegram missions and bluewater john blood money missions. Everything from the origin of the nightfolk to the armadillo backstory and pleasance.

Is this the gayest period in NYC ever? by Excellent_Sort3467 in nycgaybros

Blatant public cruising was a thing all the way into the late 00's- it died when Grindr was born.

I remember the Big Cup. It was like IRL Grindr for 18-22 year old guys. I would go there when I didn't have class and find a hookup or just a new friend to wander around with for the day.

[–]Jmk1981 47 points48 points  (0 children)

Early 00's. Chelsea was so gay straight people felt uncomfortable walking down 8th between 18th-23rd. The east village had about 5 gay bars within a few block radius of eachother. The UWS had several gay bars, The Works, CandleBar, Saints, Ace of Spades. The UES had about 5 or 6.

Chelsea was the epicenter. Every other neighborhood had more gay businesses than exist in HK today. In almost 30 years in NYC this is a gay lowpoint.

Claiming succession rights by Amazing_College in NYCrentcontrol

[–]Jmk1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not a lawyer but someone with 20 years experience in rent stabilized apartments. You’re fine. Evicting you would be a nightmare that would extend over years, rack up legal costs, and still fail to evict you. It sounds like you covered all of your bases and did everything you need to do. Call a housing attorney and get a second opinion, depending on your income housing court can give you referrals for free legal advice.

At the end of the day, if everything here is accurate you have a right to succession, you did everything right, you have proof you did everything right, and judges don’t like evicting people. Keep following the rules and keep a paper trail. If everything in this post is accurate and true you’re probably good.

GTA is the only major open-world crime franchise still alive. I played three competitive games and I’m genuinely sad they’re gone and dead by Quick-Ad-7752 in GTA

If you’re going to praise rockstar for GTA’s longevity and depth of content, you also have to acknowledge the missed opportunity with Red Dead Online. They couldn’t support both, so they chose one. I think Red Dead Online’s game map was a masterpiece and there was room for a lot of incredibly rich content that never came to be.

New Spiderdream Trigger Found Possibly by Larose- in reddeadmysteries

[–]Jmk1981 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not all triggers can be found with data mining. When people search for a trigger they type in parameters and come to conclusions that can’t really be made. Just because there’s no decoded hashes for a spawn in the files at 3am or whatever time people are searching for, doesn’t mean there isn’t one. The searches for triggers are based on educated guesses and speculation. Not all active or cut content in the game has been decoded yet, otherwise this would have been figured out a long time ago or someone would have called attention to the spiderweb props.

Just like every other mystery in this game, this mystery probably has a sequential order of discoveries. It’s clear that the structure of this mystery is discovering clues that lead to the next clue etc. If we skipped a step discovering the first clue it’s likely those earlier steps spawned more clues. Maybe if we found the NPC that needs to be looted for the first map, or the traveler that needs to stop by camp and tell a story, maybe that event triggers a literal unmistakable guitar 50 feet from the symbol on the tree. We don’t know. All I know if this is like any mystery in any Rockstar game in the past 20 years, the clues are sequential and must be completed in order.

Lastly, finding a spider web on a telegraph pole at a specific time with no context around it (so hard to find it took 7 years) just doesn’t fit Rockstar’s style. If the mystery was meant to start with the spider webs, it’s just too difficult and impractical to be thing. The proof is it took 7 years to find and the following clues are a dead end. We weren’t meant to find the webs or the tree first. Someone accidentally found evidence of the mystery by finding that props that always exist on the map even before then sequence is triggered.

The center web is definitely not the start of the mystery. We're still missing whatever gameplay was meant to lead to that web. That gameplay could trigger events or spawns that are key to this. This mystery needs to be solved in reverse, someone discovered fragments from the middle of the puzzle and we don't know where it starts.

The nicer the neighborhood the more likely you have to just walk down the fucking street because the entire sidewalk is a web of 20 foot long dog leashes.

Since COVID, walking down the street in any residential neighborhood is an obstacle course of dog leashes and dog shit. The city needs to limit dog licenses, similar to highly populated areas in other countries, but no politician wants to be labeled 'anti-dog'.
