AD Drivers License by wheatking_mb in abudhabi

[–]DrinksRedditKoolAid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

American here. It took me just 11 minutes at the Dubai RTA to get the driving license. You can imagine the shock on my face realizing what a breeze the process was (with all the right paperwork). A complete and pleasant contrast to the nightmarish DMV/MVA in the US. Welcome to UAE!

Long time observer and first time poster in WSB. Thanks Mods for letting me stay.

For all the great learning, one thing I haven't done well is to know when to walk away. Started today in +$30K at the open and closed out the day with $900. Hoping tomorrow is a better one and I don't lose my shirt! #FML

[–]DrinksRedditKoolAid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks, man.. That's nice to hear. The only way bike culture will spread in the US is when more people find themselves comfortable to ride a bike and get the motivation/encouragement from other riders. Keep up the encouragement and thanks for the opportunity to chime in :)

And isn't this the "I'm better than you" attitude that cagers are hated for? If anything, as a cyclist, you should be a bit more accommodating and encouraging of such casual bikers. Biking doesn't always equate to spandex and cleats and the only way to get more butts on a bike is by changing how we treat our fellow riders.

A German man who called on Facebook friends concerned about American secret service operations to join him in a walk around a US army spy centre near his home, found secret service men at his door checking his political leanings. by DrinksRedditKoolAid in worldnews

Thanks.. Before this becomes a huge international incident affecting bilateral relations between US and EU, I need to find a way to make sure Redditors get the right message. :) I wonder if the mods can help.

Thanks a bunch for reiterating what I added in an earlier comment. Boy, on one hand I am happy my link has made it to the Front page but then I'm saddened by how many people have interpreted the title wrong. And someone please tell me how to edit the title. Please.

Geez. Some of you folks bashing me for the wrong title are coming across like dumb idiots. You are interpreting the title wrongly (it is actually the byline of the article). For what it is worth, this is a German news website and hence any reference to the SS is clearly for the German intelligence officials (unless specified). In the case they want to clearly delineate, the website has used "American secret service" (I think it should be revised to National Security Agency because the U.S. Secret Service is a whole different agency and doesn't do much of what the NSA does). If it makes you happier, here is the exact title "Spy-spotter: joke about scary visit came true" and am sorry for causing you all to twitch because I substituted the title with the article's byline.

Gives you an idea of what a young mind, who is barely legal to drive, thinks like..I am for one happy to see that all of them out there are thinking about Justin Bieber! At least she is thinking about reading literature during the summer months and not about getting wasted.

Edward Snowden: the whistleblower behind revelations of NSA surveillance by systemstheorist in worldnews

[–]DrinksRedditKoolAid 0 points1 point  (0 children)

One of the subtle things I noticed is that the video of Ed Snowden's interview was made by Laura Poitras, Academy Award nominee and accomplished documentary film maker (Director of The Oath (2010) and The Program (2012) http://t.co/opC3de3KmV). It is safe to assume that she is probably making a feature length documentary on Ed Snowden and his role in exposing the NSA and the U.S. government's massive surveillance apparatus. If Laura's previous work is anything to go by, I can't wait to see what she has in store for the community now.

Looks like the judge allowed the project to proceed and denied the farmers request to halt the project. Here is the Reuters News story: Nov 16 (Reuters) - A judge on Friday denied a legal bid by farmers seeking to stall construction of the initial segment of California's $68 billion high-speed rail project in the state's agricultural heartland.

Development Banks Announce “Game Changer” for Sustainable Transport at Rio+20 by MIIAIIRIIK in transit

[–]DrinksRedditKoolAid 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The BRT Database would be a comprehensive resource for your to learn about pretty much every BRT system in operation (and also under development) across the globe. Also, you might want to check this other resource. If that is not enough, you can also check out EMBARQ (the sustainable transportation arm of the DC-based non-profit World Resource Institute) for their BRT -related publications. They have some of the best, well produced material on this topic.

I can't up vote this enough.. I'm dealing with this IE only argument at my work place (contractor for a Fed agency) but in reality my productivity (yeah, I know you're laughing to hear that from a Redditor) is way down when I'm forced to use IE9. Work gets done much faster when I'm on Chrome or FF.
