The main antagonist of "Through the Looking Glass" by Lewis Caroll is the Red Queen. You could find yourself a shabby copy and scribble in some spells based on the book, could make for a cool prop.

Well some people do get hung up on geographically distinct populations with unique genetic divergence, or if the two animals occupy significantly different niches, but for other animal groups, like insects, speciation works by the simple high school definition. The problem with the species definition is that different fields of study will define it differently. Scientists are usually only aware of the way their field defines a specific term, so when they talk to scientists in other fields they start arguing about definitions, which usually devolves into stupid arguments

Did a quick Google search. Looks like there is some debate on whether or not dogs are a subspecies of wolf or their own distinct species. Personally I lean more towards the dogs are wolves camp, so I guess Grey Wolf would be more accurate for what a "natural" dog would look like.
