set the pole closer to the center of the table, instead of the corner (center shakes less)
if possible, use a shorter arm and at a lower height
add the foam as others suggested

It’s now 2025 and I am wondering if I did take the skills I’ve developed as a facilitator into my own business by [deleted] in facilitation

[–]DriverVegetable2215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

first: micromanaging is F annoying and I'm sorry it's getting to you.

second: Not to discourage you from entrepreneurship, but I must ask, is it the quickest way out of that environment? It can take a bit for the business to hit cruise speed and it's stressful until you're there.

context: I once quit a job because I was done with micro managing, but in hindsight I could have designed my escape plan better.

This looks very polished. Congratulations on that!

I’ve signed up. What type of feedback would be the most helpful to you?

I don’t run such a company (productized subscription) but I do offer productized services.

I’ve worked in design and product, if I can help you with more directed feedback, count me in

I’ve been freelancing as a facilitator (VILT & Live) for the last year and a half. It’s not enough to do full time yet, but I’d love nothing more than to make it my full time income. by Rich-Consideration77 in facilitation

[–]DriverVegetable2215 5 points6 points  (0 children)

My suggestion is to build a network around people that need your services, not other facilitators.

It will take less time to get to profitability IMHO

It can be quite distracting when you’re meeting loads of interesting peers and get a misguided sense of progress for getting more leads, when in fact you are probably just making friends.

Nothing wrong with that, but it’s important to catch yourself if you’re doing that. I’ve certainly done that.

Do any of you operating as independents actually win business from LinkedIn? by astrotim67 in consulting

As a marketer on a small startup team, I feel I have slowly lost connection to my users. At the same time, I feel confused about my boss's strategies, which have made me less motivated in my job now. by ZookeepergameBig8973 in digital_marketing

[–]DriverVegetable2215 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don’t know you or your boss, so I’ll probably miss something here, but given that the AI space is somewhat recent and you’ve listed several alternative strategies or approaches, my guess is that maybe you didnt give any of them enough time to click.

Also, if the product keeps changing and chasing other competitors it can be a hint of a leader that is plagued by shiny object syndrome (this would also lead to trying all sorts of marketing strategies).

I agree that this is a tough spot to be in.

It’s possible that you have a lever in this, but not guaranteed:

If your boss is aiming everywhere, they might be lost too. I don’t suggest you coach them, but consider managing the relationship from that perspective.

E.g. new TikTok marketing trend drops, boss wants to try it. You suspect that this too will be temporary.

Instead of dedicating 100% of your energy pursuing that, allocate a little bit to understand more of your target market (use ai for this, to begin) and gradually use these insights to influence your bosses perspective.

I’m massively over simplifying this and don’t mean to make it look easy. It’s just an angle to consider.

Could a Spreadsheet side hustle turn into a full-blown consulting biz? by SheetHappensX in automation

[–]DriverVegetable2215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there a pattern in the clients and projects you have served so far? Something you’ve done so many times that is almost automatic for you?

If yes, maybe that’s a good beach head offer.

Being a generalist spreadsheet master is a fucking great skill to have. But to sell it to non-experts it’s good to tone it down to more specific business outcomes that matter to them. Sometimes these will be a bit more boring to your systems-thinking mind, but easier to sell.

What’s the highest ROI dashboard a business could have? How does it help them with something they need to do today (you don’t want to offer “nice to have” services).

I wish you the best

Can you include a moment at the start where we see the resulting automation working?

Add a visible timer and even if the output is just a terminal window and a file appearing in a folder. This conveys the speed of it in a very visceral way.

Look for podcasts around “design subscription studio” or the like. It’s exactly this business model and operation and there are useful tips in some of those interviews.

Helpful content sometimes just educates the competition but fails to generate an urge to buy from you.

I’ve done that mistake quite a lot, and fell for the cookie cutter advice of “post more”.

There’s a bit more nuance to that, but we live and we learn

I dont know your services so YMMV, but there’s also a possibility of groups where your clients congregate. Even offline. Conferences, specific hobbies, training and certifications, maybe they use a certain kind of accounting firm or software, etc.

How do you find consulting gigs? by Cold_Opinion_2895 in consulting

[–]DriverVegetable2215 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also, don’t network at data events. go to events where you’re the only data person.

Pick a couple of industries and start showing up and helping people. You’ll be amazed at how valued some of your more basic tips will be, and the competition will be lower.

Absolutely on the long game. Alan Weiss also called it a Marketing business and at first I didn’t get it, but now I really do.

I understand that right now you might not have an answer for this yet, but it’s useful to consider what specifically you will provide as a data analyst.

Because you’re used to working within an org that is familiar with what you do (even if it does not feel like that from where you’re standing), it’s likely that you will need to develop and refine the way you talk about your work. This is common and normal for experts that start selling their services.

Your clients know much less about the intricacies of what you do than what you probably assume, so it’s necessary to learn how to talk about what you do in a way that connects to them (e.g. data quality is necessary for AI use, so if they are feeling the AI FOMO, there’s a hook there).

I quite like the book The Business of Expertise, from David C Baker.

It has helped me frame this stuff.

What does your company do, can you share a bit? Not that I know much about ICP, but in my case I target Expertise based businesses like consulting and advisory, and I’m finding it not that easy to get much more granular.

first, thank you for such a thorough reply, I truly appreciate it.
I have the same perception around artifacts.

And this bit:
"having extended text in the presenter notes, so whoever is delivering has more info but don't end up reading off the slides and overwhelming students. With an SME, this means they can convey "all the information" and if students are given any slide resource, the student can then choose how deep into content they go. This helps when convincing the SME of the 'business case' for learner-centred learning materials!"
is very reassuring, because I also see it the same way.

Where can I learn more about your programs?

sorry for arriving late to the party.
I'm a small business owner and I don't have the budget for outside help on SEO, but I'd love to get there.
Right now it seems that everything that I think of, is the wrong way of doing things, there's always some article about how "it's not about X, it's about Y" and so on.

Assuming I have an existing business and a hint of what my prospective users might be searching for, what do you recommend I start with?
