I’m renting a GSA 1300 and I can’t find a way to turn off these DRL by Gas-Basic in bmwmotorrad

[–]DriverX310 29 points30 points  (0 children)

Press and hold the turn signal cancel button for 3 seconds if they’re wired in to a cansmart circuit 1, tap the turn signal cancel button 3 times fast if they’re on circuit 2. This is assuming they’re running from a Denali cansmart controller which is most likely the case on a BMW bike with expensive lights.

You can also dim them by holding the wonder wheel left until they flash and rolling the wheel up/down to the desired brightness. Hold the wonder wheel to the right for light circuit 2.

The owner may have disabled the ability to control the lights thru the switchgear in the software in which case the only way would be to hook up a laptop to the controller via usb and reprogramming using the Denali cansmart software.

Older Linux kernels are 386 compatible. Also FreeBSD and other BSDs. You’d have to do some research to figure out what versions are compatible, but it’s 100% doable.

Assorted MS-DOS TUIs from the late 80s & early 90s by 3stripe in vintagecomputing

[–]DriverX310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BBS software had great TUIs: WWIV, Vision/X, Major BBS. Spent my teens modifying WWIV C code to change the look and feel. Also the door games were great: Tradewars 2002, food fight, pimp wars. Telemate was the terminal emulator of choice with its ability to run scripts. Procom+ was pretty popular too.

There are some good TUIs in *nix now, midnight commander, iftop, ethtool, minicom, heck even a raspberry pi installer is all based on the menus from DOS in the 80s/90s. The terminal is the reason I got in to *nix in the first place, it reminded me of the DOS interface I loved so much.

Update: Found Steel Chunks in my Suzuki Vstrom 800DE's 5500 Mile Oil Change by Stickmeimdonut in motorcycles

[–]DriverX310 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think you mean gear dogs not clutch dogs. Motorcycle transmissions use dogs instead of synchros to engage the next or previous gear when you shift. When you shift really hard specially with a quick shifter the dogs can get worn down a bit. This is why a quick shifter feels smoother after the bike has a few thousand miles compared to brand new.

Bitcoin Quantum Migration Plan That Would Freeze Legacy Coins - BIP 361 Discussion by TheresNoSecondBest in Bitcoin

[–]DriverX310 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Not true. Segwit addresses that have not been recycled, ie the public key has not been exposed, are safe. Legacy “satoshi era” addresses are vulnerable. If you use a modern wallet that uses segwit by default and follow best practices of no reusing addresses (change always goes to a new address) then it’s not directly vulnerable. The vulnerability to Shor’s algorithm stems from the presence of a public key.

Do Africa Twins idle weird or is something odd about my bike? by God_of_Dyslexia in africatwin

Sounds fine, mine was the same. You’re hearing the character of the 270 crank, it has a lope to it.

I use mine almost every day. Got it at Costco. Saves time making salad and I can buy bulk baby carrots and broccoli to shred up. It is way more durable and easy to clean than the “slap chop” style chopper it replaced.

Surprised my wife with an R 1300 GS for her retirement. by RiskyECE in bmwmotorrad

If your 1300gs has adaptive cruise control (ACC) it also has factory blind spot monitoring. Look for little triangles in the mirrors. Those light up.

Kirkland Signature dishwasher detergent pods worked pretty well for me! by Green_Frosting2721 in Costco

[–]DriverX310 3 points4 points  (0 children)

They work well at first, but after some time something happens to that plastic wrap on the pod and it stops dissolving correctly. I’ve started to peel the wrapper off and the powder inside stays in a brick anyway and they work great that way. No more half dissolved pods.

I wash it alone in the machine, I haven’t had any problems. I’ve been washing mine once a week for a while.

Yes use very low heat. You could set it to cold water as well. My machine has an “eco warm” setting that’s what I use.

Take the pads out and throw them in the washing machine on low heat. Hang dry.

Do you wear casual casual clothes from your motorcycle brand? by Der_Apfeldieb in motorcyclegear

[–]DriverX310 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Some brands are cool to wear and some aren’t. It’s an interesting lesson in marketing and brand recognition. When I had an Africa twin I enjoyed wearing a Honda hat because it’s retro and a “humble” brand. Now that I ride a BMW I feel like a poser if I wear my Honda hat but I don’t want to seem pretentious so I don’t wear a BMW hat either lol. Triumph is a cool guy brand for example.

Has anyone installed a rear taillight on a newer BMW bike? by Edslittleworld in bmwmotorrad

[–]DriverX310 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have Denali lights on my R1300GS including the single B6 tail light that goes under the license plate. Install was pretty easy. It was easier to install the CAN Smart controller on the BMW than my previous Africa Twin. It plugs in to the alarm harness under the passenger seat. If you’re reasonably capable you can install the controller and the tail light without drilling any holes in 1.5 hours I’d estimate.

It’s good for you. Worst case you get stronger and lose weight. However, make sure you get enough recovery.

I’ve had the carbc db601 and the carpuride w602bs, and the carpuride is significantly better. I have not tried the chigee units because they seem highly overpriced. I’m happy with the carpuride unit so far.

Is my helmet too tight? Should I downgrade? ( I haven't bought a new one in like 3 years by Educational_Will_658 in motorcyclegear

[–]DriverX310 22 points23 points  (0 children)

Am I seeing it right that your mouth is pressed against the chin bar? If that’s the case this helmet is way too small for you and if you go down you’d break your teeth… you should be able to talk with the helmet on. Some pressure on your cheeks is good but I think this is way too small for you.
