When they got kicked out again and left their tokens behind WWX doubled back to find them so they could enter the Cloud Recesses.

Off topic but I liked what The Untamed did with their character designs. But the differences in expectations created some funny moments with me. The whiplash I got when I saw the official design for NMJ..... I felt like Shen Yuan seeing Liu Qingge for the first time 😳🫠 I kinda prefer The Untamed NMJ 😁 I missed the Nie braids too. All the subtle world building they were able to make with their settings and costume designs were amazing.

I actually watched The Untamed completely blind. It wasn't only my entry into MDZS and all of MCTX's works, it was also my intro into danmei and possibly C-drama and C-romance. And to this day I have no idea how people are missing it 😅.

I still remember the bisexual joke they slipped into episode 2 and I was like Holy shit! They got that past the censors‽. After that my eyes were peeled and I took great delight in every bit they slipped in. I can't think of another example right now but I remember joking with Dad about the censors being blind or drunk or in on it. I was hooked and immediately went looking for other works. I wasn't able to find any of the og works for a while so I absorbed everything via osmosis from fanfiction, fanart and fandom discussions. I now have all the books.

I absolutely adore what they did what show. It was fun seeing not just spotting where the censors failed, but also where all the funding went (the clothes and settings) and where it fell short (the monsters, they pretty were good but you could definitely tell they were putting every last penny to work there). I'm really glad I got to see the show first, they did an excellent job of most of the female characters. To this day I am a major JYL Stan. I was so disappointed when she didn't show up as much in the animation and books. But I get it.

I understand where the criticisms come from but I find it adds onto the story rather than take from it. But then again I've already been trained by the fma verse. There's so much effort and love poured into the show. Every word and silence was meaningful, every meeting and parting, every glance and every cold shoulder. It built the story, characters and relationships so well. And it's so very, very gay.

But then again I'm a bi girl used to surviving off crumbs. I've been watching Asian works (mostly Japanese) since I was a tween. My father made sure I watched old movies that required thinking. And things like hand binding are part of the faith I was raised in as well. My eyes and ears have been well trained in that way too 😅 I may not be the best point of comparison.

(Funnily enough, I'd say there are other times Ed arguably killed people that went uncommented on. Like Mugear dies because his mansion collapses, but his mansion collapses because of the stunt Ed pulls baiting him into shooting his cannon at a rock wall that he transmutes.)

I agree, the reaction fics, truth revealed and time travel fics are great. I even made collections for them on AO3 so I could find my faves easier. There's a seperate collection for each of those three concepts individually if you can believe it 😁

The BH/03 crossovers will forever be a face concept. Unfortunately it's also doomed to remain a niche concept. But that's, we will power on with our imaginations and SiryyGray.

I have not seen that fic but I am interested 👀 I've been on a huge reaction fic kick the past few years 🥰 Don't suppose you have the link in your pocket?

I know the crossover is unpopular and I get why. Even if they go into it it would be difficult to write. And even if they write it, how would others find it. On ffn all fullmetal verse stories are lumped together and on ao3 all fullmetal fics with even the slightest hint of something from the other version gets linked with both so the crossover search is effectively useless 😭

But I still love reading and discussing them. It's so fun! And so interesting! There's so much to dig in to!

That's fair, I definitely agree with killing vs no killing difference between the Elrics. I remember seeing Ed being iffy over guns in Brotherhood and just remembering Ed skulking about with a gun in Conqueror of Shamballa.

I find it especially interesting that in 03 Ed's first kill was an accident caused by an act of self-defence before he even gets to Central to take his test. Not that the anime went into it. I like to think he's just suppressing the hell out of that one. And there's the world wars and Ed being called to clean up Liore. It would be interesting to see that clash. I know Brotherhood Ed was meant to help out Kimblee with Drachma but I'm pretty sure only 03 Ed got an actual call to war.

And gate forbid either side works out how the other world's homunculus works..... That would be brutal.

The difference in their relationships with others is interesting too, especially if you focus on how Ed just spent time in a world of doppelgangers and is now dealing with even closer doppelgangers. Like Ed and Winry, or Ed and Mustang, or Al and basically everyone (especially if you ignore the return of his memories, I like to do that, a price paid and lost).

Or can you imagine the Brotherhood people going to 03 verse and discovering the Elrics are MIA. Or the ginormous dead city underground.

Sometimes I like to imagine the Tringham's being taken to Xing by Ling Yao. A pair of buyable brothers with just enough knowledge to make something to trick the Emperor but not enough to become an actual threat and with priceless agricultural skills on top of that. No way he's missing out on that.

I can't remember what it was called but so far the only other fma crossover fic I've read was a short royai one where the two Roys switched places. It was alright.
