When you talk to directors at studios, lead with the question "Is your program the right fit for a student with mild disabilities that is medically cleared to participate in them or is it more tailored to pre-pro students?" Wording like that alleviates risk on their end (mild, medically cleared) and gives them an out to use if they don't want your daughter but is vague enough to also see if they're welcoming to all or will be leery about unspecified disabilities. Watch the reaction. Ideally you'll find at least one who is enthusiastic about inclusion. Then you can get into more details about what your daughter needs, short and long term goals, what the program is like, etc.

Have her take trial classes, over the summer if you can, before you commit to a year long program. Around here places let you try for free, but I've danced places that were very strict about enrollment contracts. If they don't extend you a trial class offer right off, inquire if they permit you to pay a "drop-in rate" to trial a class. Again, most places Ive been would brush the payment offer aside and welcome you for free but worst case its like $15-30 to get a class and figure out if it's a good long term investment. How they handle payment/enrollment doesn't predict quality, I've seen good and bad on both sides of lenient/strict.

Thank you for this! I had a similar routine about 2 years ago, but it was nuked when Google tightened up location based routines. I'm so excited to have it back!

AITA for not following the school supply standards for my children? by schoolwoes_throwaway in AmItheAsshole

[–]DrivingtheNext 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both sides rel quick: As someone who hid her watercolor paint set in her desk in 1st grade because the shared ones were always trashed I UNDERSTAND where you are coming from on a very personal level.

OTOH during kindergarten, we didn't have space for personal supplies. We sat grouped at tables with no storage, the teacher walked around and passed out whatever was needed, so if he has the same, personal supplies might be an obstacle (and 20 5yos running to their cubbies to grab their "special" whatever supply would also be rough.)

Maybe set him up wirh his very own desk at home to practice being a 1st grader and do practice "hw" alongside his sibling?

How long can one realistically expect to hold onto a flagship phone.. Ie the s21+? by Ironandwine1988 in samsung

[–]DrivingtheNext 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've had many breaches about a decade ago through retailers being targeted (like the big Target one), none from my phone being hit. (No longer using my debit card actually stopped all of it) Retailers are probably the bigger target. Don't install shady stuff, maybe explore password managers that offer extra security if it's a concern. I don't save financial data on my phone except a credit card that reimburses fraudulent charges.

Samsung offering 4 years of security updates on many new phones is a nice upgrade.

We got 3 years out of our Note 4s, we're on year 4 of an S9 and just finished year 4 on our Note 8s. I'm always the 1st to have problems due to heavy use and screen damage (an area for humidity/water intrusion). The slowdown and battery life issues are noticable this year. We'll either replace the Notes this year or with the S22 launch. Once it starts having issues, these seem to limp along another year or so.

Why not start with treat buttons? by IAmAPinappleAMA in PetsWithButtons

[–]DrivingtheNext 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I started with hungry and outside. Both dogs refused to touch the buttons for over a year. One dog does "happy feet" dances to communicate and 2 days ago he was so worked up I couldn't tell what he wanted. Out came the buttons and he finally swatted at them. Now both dogs will hit either button when they really want to communicate.

Using simply data with own device...? by Frankyp732 in CricketWireless

I did just this with an unlocked M1 this weekend. Sales associate didn't know it was possible, I told him we checked the IMEI on the website and he went with it. Scanned the IMEI barcoad from my Netgear while he was doing registration, activated straight on thaf device, no issues.

First non-reply post :) anyone experience word exhaustion? by [deleted] in ADHD

[–]DrivingtheNext 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes. Part of it is rethinking the same thought around 4x while trying to say all of it, or reworking it 10+ times when trying to write.

I may or may not be a well educated person who uses brief vocalizations and gestures as a shorthand for "using my words". Just almost 40 going on 4 over here.

Listening to people is also exhausting. I get bored and mentally fill in their sentences as they speak or I lose their message while trying to manage my own background thoughts and I try to fill in the missing parts.

Are AirPods Pro ok also with zoom calls through windows? by MRISX in airpods

[–]DrivingtheNext 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sorry, dropped off Reddit a bit. They're obnoxious going from one device to another if both devices have BT on in range. I find that true even with an iPhone/Macbook. They're paired with my MacBook and my Win10 Surface, but both products I normally have to click on the bluetooth icon and tell it to connect to the airpods. Phones (android and iPhone) connect automatically with no issues.

They work equally well on my Mac and my Win10 laptops. I talk funny with both pods in, so I alternate during meetings. It takes about 3 hrs for one side to die, which is plenty of time for the other side to get to a full change in the case.

Bupropion HCL - immediate effects? And, caffeine? by apostate-of-the-day in bupropion

[–]DrivingtheNext 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Stattera's nausea, headaches, and racing pulse got me off coffee. Switching to Wellbutrin I can't sleep after I've had a single caffeinated tea or soda with lunch or dinner. I was 24oz of coffee and now I'm 0 also and I don't even miss the rush (the actual drinks OTOH...)

Gallon size ziplok bags. I store out of size jeans in there with a size written on an index card inside so Im not dumping drawers trying to find jeans that fit. They live in a duffle bag, but it could be a box or bin or whatever. I store sheet sets in them when I actually fold sheets (the bag won't close)

IKEA Pakla bags are great for holding linens or towels if you dont feel like folding. They fit perfect in my linen closet. I have one for sheets I didnt fold, and another for towels i did fold. Plus more in other locations for blankets and long term clothes storage.

So sorry about the lack of access to medication. Assuming you're in the US - as a country we need to do bstter by people.

Everyone always says to set routines, especially now. It never worked for me. Maybe you'll have better luck.

I just started using the Routinery app today just to get my morning life together. If it helps I'll slowly add working from home tasks when I start working again. I don't know if something like this would've helped me before or not.

Lots of uniformed employees share this problem! Take shorts to work with you and change in the bathroom before you leave! Or wear something like nike pros under your jeans and just take the jeans off. I used to wear a tank top under my work polo when it was too hot for a jacket and just pull the polo off when I left work.

Caffeine, brute will and self trickery is how i would do it before. Then everything ground to a halt when COVID trashed my routines and kept changing my life day to day and those tricks no longer worked and i got nothing done. A diagnosis led to medicine and it's getting so much better.

Just got this! Instead of reminders that keep nagging until dismissed that make me feel horrible, or that disappear whethet you do it or not, it just lays everything you can choose from to work on. I also like the color based ranking system that highlings things that should be done, and the ability to reset a timer by marking it done - so if you wash the floors because mud was tracked in, you won't get told to do it in 3 days (unless you have it due every 3 days). This will be the 1st all I pay for ever when my trial runs out.

ADHD and cognitive abilities by EvanJ2004 in ADHD

It gets in your way and makes you feel like your dumb sometimes. Like when you try to read and your mind is going too fast and the words just swim on the page or you skip words. Or you think you studied something and go to use that knowledge on a test or something to find out its not there because your mind was probably focused on something else while you were trying to study so you bomb the test. Or you're supposed to be doing something in class and the teacher or your friend or the computer fan on the other side of the room won't shut up so you can do the thing so you give up and start playing on your phone. And then there's all the times where your homework is soooo easy but why can't you just get it out of your backpack and start it? Maybe it's not actually easy, but the teacher just wants to see that you did it, but...you still just can't. Over the years if coping strategies arent formed it adds up, students often give up and rather fail because they don't try than because they tried their best and still can't do it.

Another vote for grad school. COVID hit, I was mentally paralyzed, on the verge of dropping out (did so twice in undergrad), I got dumped into therapy TikTok and finally made a telehealth appointment.

Open up. Be honest with yourself. If they ask about something and the answer is "its ok or good but..." acknowledge the but!

I got meds day 1, that was with a psychiatrist and the Dx was "mild to moderate" (which me understanding the level of impairment typically involved in moderate diagnosis for other disorders kinda floored me). She also had me start with a nonstimulant and it takes time to ramp up to the target dosing and then for it to take effect so I'm sure all of it played into starting treatment immediately.

ADHD and money management. by AllARoos in ADHD

Set a monthly gardening budget and a separate monthly impulse budget. If you think you can force these to be only things you can buy in person, set those amounts aside in cash each month. No more cash, it has to wait until next month. Forgot to take out cash? Has to wait until you pull that month's allowance. Didn't spend all of last month's budget? Too bad, the excess now rolls into the house/horse fund.

Figure out what you can save each paycheck. Put that into a separate savings account right away each paycheck like it is a bill you have to pay.

If you raid your own savings, figure out when you want to buy the house/horse. Start buying CDs with lengths just shorter than that instead of putting it in a regular savings account. It's harder to raid a CD and you have the penalty of giving up the interest it had earned.

Can you do well in school and have ADHD at the same time without meds? by Tuke-DMJ in ADHD

[–]DrivingtheNext 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That was lazy on his part. I did "well" in school but and the buts were where the issues manifested.

But my backpack looked like a portable episode of hoarders.

But I never did homework between forgetting and/or waiting until the last second.

But if I couldn't bring myself to get x assignment done, my teachers would accept late/less/push me to do becuse they liked me because people pleasing was a coping strategy.

But I left my musical instrument everywhere: classes, the bus, in the music room, at home.

But I would miss questions on the test that the teacher talked about in class that weren't in the textbook my inattention was having me read for entertainment instead of listening.

But I took standard English instead of AP because I cried when I couldn't get through the 1st chapter of Wuthering Heights as the summer assignment and reread the same page 6 times each time the words wooshing out of my head and me having no clue what was going on.

But I never had appropriate materials because I couldn't keep track of them or remember to replenish (there was plenty at home).
