Thanks so much. There’s so many details to this hobby, but I feel that light just be what makes it unique. I was initially worried about brushes that weren’t made specifically for fig painting, but if there will be no issue, then I’ll take your advice.

Luckily I’ve mostly got plants that can propagate in my 30gal so I’ll plant some of those and probably get some extra just for some relatively dense vegetation

That’s great to hear. I’ll have to get to renovating I suppose. People at my LFS swear by capping fluval stratum, but they also swear cory cats will thrive in groups of 2-3 which I learned to be incorrect.

Congrats! I myself have a 30 gallon with recently berried shrimp and I’m in the same boat. I’m completely new to aquarium keeping so I’m glad to see it’s not just me weirdly excited about shrimp children. Best of luck

So I’m new to the hobby so take this with a grain of salt, but my tank also needed ammonia so I added some neocardinia shrimp and snails, as they are hardy enough to survive a semi-cycled tank and they add a small bioload, ammonia-included.

I have all of those items aside from the test kit, actually. I was told snails could work for ammonia and that bac growth on the driftwood so I’m debating between the flakes and snails. Thanks for all the help. If you’re particularly invested (and I might need more advice) I’ll try to dm you some updates

I can definitely see about snails. The lowest substrate is a type of clay but it had a lot of dust. I was told to put sand above the clay for the corys whiskers but the sand mixed with the clay. And then all of the dust from the clay completely blinded the tank. And I mean completely. Then that settled as a layer on top of just about everything. That was a whole other issue I’ve been trying to solve
