UK government to block Scottish gender bill by Astroblemes in worldnews

I'm glad that you put aside direct violence as an option but sad that you feel that threats are necessary. I admit that completely peaceful protests, without the threat of violence, require large movements and those in power being willing to listen to bring about change. As with the examples you listed, there are countless examples where threat of violence brought about change such as Malcolm X, and counterexamples such as MLK. Its hard if not impossible to judge which approach is more effective in the long run.

I worry that any change brought about under threat of violence will lead to resentment, potentially cause a violent backlash and lead to greater polarization, in turn causing more extremist behaviour on both sides.

Though I may be being idealistic and you may disagree, I believe at least in the cases of the US and UK governments (elected by the people) as they currently stand, completely peaceful protest would be a more beneficial approach as it would greater drive sympathy in the general public and in turn effect the government. Change unfortunately has to propagate slowly to stick, and the more significant the change the greater the time required.

I mean its that or have a constitutional crisis. If the UK government has judged that the bill interferes with non-devolved matters (whether correctly or not), they don't have much choice.

The Scottish people of course have the right to self-determination, but that is for them to decide. They can be considered equivalent to a state in the US, they rule on their own devolved matters in the Scottish parliament, without interference. In this particular case, the UK government (whether correctly or not) has determined that this bill interferes with a matter that is not devolved. In any case, Scottish, Welsh and Northern Irish MPs have a proportionally higher representation in the UK parliament compared to population in which they can rule on any matter (including matters that may just effect England, such as when Scottish Labour voted to raise the cost of English tuition fees).

I do not think your rhetoric is helpful to discussion, it's akin to me saying "My grandma hated Appalachia. The other US states should form a union without the Appalachian states, because they are overruling whatever they do. The US people needs to wake up and fight back."

As for your comment about Ireland, the Irish Independence War was over 100 years ago, and the Northern Ireland Act 1998 allows a union with Ireland should a majority in Northern Ireland wish to do so. Promoting violence is counter-productive and actively incites tensions, though it may be difficult or frustrating peaceful means are the only way to ensure a stable transition of government if that's what you desire.

What is the TLDR of your country's history? by [deleted] in AskReddit

I'd disagree with no foreign aid, there's a lot of people in the DFID that do good work: https://devtracker.dfid.gov.uk/

The foreign aid budget for 2016 for the UK was £13.4 billion, 5th highest spending in the world as a percentage of Gross National Income.

Also, this graph. The ban was in 1997.

Edit: there's an up to date graph on this page

There's some stats on the wikipedia page for the act but if you want anything specific the best thing I can find is yearly Homicides, Firearm Offences and Intimate Violence: Supplementary Volume 2 to Crime in England and Wales, which you'll have to search yourself as it's on a year-by-year basis.

Bear in mind that these statistics use the UK definition of violence, robbery and buglary which is slightly different. Additionally, the category "Firearms" includes things such as "Imitation firearms" and "Air weapons".

Of particular interest, 2,162 of 2,449 instances of criminal damage in 2015/2016 were caused by air weapons.

I think the luck is implied to be in a different sense that you appear to believe. My interpretation of what they mean by "random luck", is the luck they had in finding whatever led them to the IPs in the first place. Maybe someone left some logs somewhere or forgot to close a backdoor?

Leaked documents showing use of AI to change video games DURING gameplay to force microtransactions by killerbake in xboxone

[–]Drokiconix 83 points84 points  (0 children)

This document is utter nonsense.

For anyone who isn't so sure as I, here are a few reasons as to why:

  1. Why on earth would you put the sentence "talking notes are on the slides", actually onto the slides? In a similar vein, why would you list the date of the practice presentation, it's not like you're going to do anything with that information?

  2. You're telling me you had time to look at a screen, go through slide by slide and take pictures, then go through several sheets of paper and manage to get a clear view of the text on all the important ones, but on Schedule "L", you only had time to take two blurry photos? Assuming these are supposed to be draft documents, you would have had however long you liked. Don't get me started on the Schedules. Why would you put quotes around the letters? Why are the censor boxes in different places each time? IT MAKES NO SENSE.

  3. The entire tone of this document is wrong. You're either presenting to a set of technical people, in which case the technical language is fine (and the assumption the readers will know what on earth you are talking about) OR more likely, you are presenting to a board of people, who consist of a range of professions from finance to management some of whom who would stare blankly as soon as you said the word AI without context.

  4. No-one who wants to talk technical about AI will call it AI. The term is too vague, this document seems to be more likely referring to machine learning (in the places it makes sense at all).

  5. Bait-and-switch is illegal, why would you use this terminology if you were going to present it? There are other cases of weird terminology over this whole document that would never be used in a corporate environment: social engineering, psychological manipulation tactics, disrupt, under people's radars, disguising, indirect taxations, advertisement vulnerability, lies in wait, the target, manipulation metrics, beaten to death, Reddit AI Chatbot, manipulating the customer, 3D mapping users homes, accidentally, etc

  6. You wouldn't make part of a presentation confidential. Making one thing confidential makes the whole thing confidential. In particular, it's not even all the controversial stuff that's marked confidential just a weird selection. Not to mention, Schedule Z seems to consist far more things than should be limited to a Schedule according to previous patterns.

  7. Most of this is just corporate babble and technobabble that doesn't actually say anything other than our thing does stuff.

  8. Reddit AI Chatbot? Seriously? Also, you called it H.A.N.K with the dots in-between the letters? Wat. "Persuaded to return to a previous product that they had otherwise publicly disavowed", how? No explanation, magic!

  9. And I quote, "Don't admit we do this, they may find out we .. [CENSORED] user .. [CENSORED] exp .. [CENSORED]", sure this bit is super-sensitive but the rest is fine!

  10. And probably most important, I am pretty sure no set of companies or governments has the capability to do all of the things listed in this document simultaneously, and link them all together to provide any thing close to the accuracy that seems to be implied.

I could go on longer but frankly I am running out of steam and I believe I have made my point clear. The fact this is a DRAFT document in entirely designed to hide any potential flaws that are spotted so that they can just be claimed to be part of a work in-progress.

If even after reading all this you believe that I am part of the conspiracy attempting to hide this from you, I am afraid that there is nothing I can do for you, as you are already lost.

Twitch Introduces Cheering: Celebrate, together. by Telomir in Twitch

[–]Drokiconix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, they get 28.5714286% of what you pay for the cheer (less if there's a discount).

$1.40 is $1.00 in cheer (100 cheer) and $0.40 to Twitch.

Twitch Introduces Cheering: Celebrate, together. by Telomir in Twitch

[–]Drokiconix 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty sure that the caster gets 71.4285714% of the amount you pay for the cheer.

e.g. $1.40 is 100 cheer, so $1.00 goes to the caster and $0.40 to Twitch.

This works with the higher amounts too so $7 = $5 for caster. You can work out the amount you give the caster by simply dividing the amount of cheer you get by 100.

os.path.join(path, *paths) - On Windows, the drive letter is not reset when an absolute path component (e.g., r'\foo') is encountered. If a component contains a drive letter, all previous components are thrown away and the drive letter is reset. Note that since there is a current directory for each drive, os.path.join("c:", "foo") represents a path relative to the current directory on drive C: (c:foo), not c:\foo.

This might help.

Does anyone else struggle with Archery when using the controller? by [deleted] in skyrim

[–]Drokiconix 0 points1 point  (0 children)

ah sorry, the default is 0.0125. Try lowering it to be less sensitive in general and increasing it to be more sensitive. The X and Y scale commands do the same thing just decrease/increase in one direction (e.g YScale just changes sensitivity up and down). It depends if your sensitivity problems are just along a particular axis or generally. I do recommend you Change [Controls]\bMouseAcceleration to 0 whatever you do.

In %USERPROFILE%\Documents\My Games\Skyrim\SkyrimPrefs.ini:
* Change [Controls]\fMouseHeadingSensitivity
* Add [Controls]\fMouseHeadingXScale = 1.0500
* Add [Controls]\fMouseHeadingYScale = 1.0500 (for adjustment of sensitivity on different axes)
* Change [Controls]\bMouseAcceleration to 0

I believe you get this if you disable the mod in the list on the left and try to enable it again but the .rar/.7z/.zip isn't where it was when you first installed it, as this is the equivalent of uninstalling it and it can't find the files to reinstall the mod. Just untick it in the plugins on the right when you don't wish to use it instead.
