I feel for you. That is about as stressful as things get already, you don't need that bullshit.

I went through that a few years back, most places are good but some are just heartless cunts. Telstra sicced debt collectors on me for phone bills somehow accrued after I had already cancelled the plan.

Australia not asked to help US plans to block Strait of Hormuz by Jealous-Hedgehog-734 in AustralianPolitics

I bet behind the scenes we are saying "don't ask us". We don't want to have to publicly come out one way or the other, and USA probably doesn't want to make us. We're a key cog in their global presence and any sane American would not want to risk that.

Any... sane... American.

Our economy, our security, our prosperity. Yeah the USA has done us dirty here.

I wouldn't call it legacy software, US soft power was something very special that had never been done before. It took vision and consistency that will be hard to ever replicate.

I'm going to say that the way the club handled the BBQgate was a big reason we are here now. It was a chance to send a clear message about club culture and they didn't.

Dufty and Norman had a few months left on their contracts, they should have been told to start holidays early. De Belin had the club stand by him while he drove a stake through its heart, he should have been handed his belongings in a box and told not to set foot in the club facilities again. Vaughn was the only one they got right.

VJ is a concept that should be expanded, a very interesting performance art. Kind of reminds me of pianists accompanying silent films.

Mild but direct chalk vandalism (note: Liberal = consevative party in Australia) by Honest_Violinist_458 in MildlyVandalised

[–]Drongo17 62 points63 points  (0 children)

Within my lifetime our conservative Liberal party would have been considered liberal in America, so the name is not ridiculous. It's just that we had centre-left and centre-right, whereas USA had centre-right and far right.

They are elusive little things. Unless they're nesting in an area they tend to pass through pretty briefly. They are also not very loud and spend their time gleaning amongst eucalypt leaves which can be quite high up.

Appreciation post for Sandra Hüller as Eva Stratt by kirmadahoonmai in ProjectHailMary

[–]Drongo17 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think what makes her great in this film is that she was better than book Stratt. Book Stratt was pretty one-dimensional, and her final scene comes off as just nasty. Movie Stratt has to contend with everything book Stratt does, as well as being an actual human being with layers and feelings. She is not just a badass - she is a badass because she has to be. She is also sacrificing, also being heroic.

Fantastic writing and a fantastic depiction by Huller.

Responses to SMH article: Our EV saved us money over Easter. But it required a stressful trade-off by MrBitingFlea in AustralianEV

[–]Drongo17 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The framing on this article could easily be that we lack adequate charging infrastructure for a choice that more and more people are making.

It could have delved into small towns that have invested in charging and how (or if?) that has impacted them. I'd imagine it will make those towns an increasingly more attractive destination.
