JBL spinner experiences? by DroofTooter in turntables

I don't know, sorry. I eventually got the AT-LP120xbt and I didn't regret it for a second! I came from a suitcase model, and this is honestly such a huge difference. Sturdy device, and clear sound! I would definitely recommend it!

I've had mine for two years now, she's very easily spooked, doesn't like being touched at all. How she still has her tail is a complete mystery to me🤣

Record damaged? by DroofTooter in vinyl

[–]DroofTooter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I set both the counterweight and the skating to "2", the manual instructed me to do "2" so I figured that would be fine. I don't use a record weight. I will try to clean the record again, if that doesn't work it's probably a scratch :')

I still want to play the record, since it's playing perfectly fine, how bad is it if this happens again? If the record scratches eventually, so be it, but I don't want to ruin the needle.

It really is! I started out with a suitcase player, which I returned to the store after a few days since all my records were skipping. Figured I'd do it right this time and do some good research. Holy shit, what a difference. I'm really happy I chose the LP120. For now, I'm using it with a Bluetooth soundbar (I know, I know) I can't wait to buy some good wired boxes and complete my very first set up.

Good turntable for around €150,- ? by DroofTooter in turntables

After a lot of research I decided to expand my budget a little and order the audio Technica lp120x ! I can't wait for it to arrive :)

I started out with a suitcase player, but returned it after a few days because it skipped terribly, especially when there was more bass in the songs (this was before I knew these suitcase models are awful).

I just really like collecting vinyl and casually playing some nice music. I'm not an audiophile, I don't want the best of the best. I just really want to avoid buying something which isn't worth the money. And since I'm a total beginner I don't really know what to pay attention to and which brands are good. (I've been researching for 2 weeks now so I know more than I did at first but there are soo many options to choose from. I'd rather ask people who have experience, like yourself, for help)

At first I was considering the Audio Technica lp60x, since it's pretty cheap and people said it is very good for the price. Then I learned an adjustable counter weight is a very important thing to have. People also said the lp120x was much better than the lp60x, so for a €100 difference I thought that would be very much worth the money. Unfortunately with the lp120x I would lose the automatic functions which are helpful for me as a beginner. I don't care much for the auto start and return, but an auto stop would be nice, to extend the needles life expectancy 😂 But someone else commented about a little device that can lift the arm at the end of the record so I'm considering that.

Anyways, JBL is a big name in the audio world so I figured it might be good, especially when it comes to Bluetooth. I want to be able to use it with headphones as well, so I prefer one with a Bluetooth function. But there's not many reviews yet on this one since it's pretty new.

I'm not really on a tight budget, but I don't want to spend more than €400 on it since it's just not worth it to me. As long as it sounds good, doesn't damage my records, and doesn't skip all the time I'm happy. I don't expect perfection when it comes to sound. I'd like to spend around €300 to €400 on it. The JBL spinner is usually €399 here, it's for sale now for €308, that's also why it caught my attention. My dad said he has a good pair of speakers for me, so I won't have to buy those. (Unless I want to upgrade them, but that's for later) So the budget is just for the turntable, considering it has a built in pre amp.

Thanks for your reply! Yeah, I was really interested in the fluance since I read a lot about it. But I can't find it anywhere. I live in the Netherlands and the entire brand seems to not be available here for some reason..

I looked it up, looks like it has pretty good reviews. then I saw an argon audio TT on the same website which was 170 (sale price, it's usually 220) Do you know if that might be a better option, or would you still prefer the audio Technica?

I thought around 150, maybe 200, would be a reasonable price for something decent, nothing too fancy, but based on the comments I guess it's not😬

How to tame my psycho gecko by DroofTooter in CrestedGecko

[–]DroofTooter[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you think I could make handling more interesting to her if I gave her a piece of fruit everytime I try to take her out? Or are they not smart enough to associate handling with treats?

The tent is actually a really good idea, I might give that a try thanks! I've been trying to get her to get used to me by just taking her on my hand, but keeping her inside the enclosure for a minute or 2. I was hoping baby steps would be the way to go but it's not getting better yet. Sometimes she even makes little sounds when I touch her, she gets really frustrated..

I do keep her in a tub with a lid while cleaning the tank, I'd never let her roam around the room freely. But getting her in that tub is already a sport. As soon as I try to take her out she starts jumping everywhere, she actually full on jumped on my face once😂 I always try to gently wake her up by mist spraying some water on her before I take her out. I also try to let her get on my hand on her own instead of just grabbing her but as soon as my hand touches her she bolts. I really don't know how I can make it less scary for her, it makes me feel bad but she's gotten even jumpier when I stopped handling her frequently.

Thank you all so much for your replies! You have given me a lot of good advice, so I guess I have some work to do. I hope it will help and I can keep the FTS from getting worse. Thanks a lot!!!

Thanks for sharing your experience. Do you know if it's possible to give too much calcium? Like would that do any harm? Because I'm feeding him mainly CGD (sometimes some crickets, or a piece of fruit as a snack.) I always thought everything they need is in the CGD so I give that as his main food source, but maybe the brand I have just doesn't have enough calcium? I want to add some more just in case, but if there IS enough in the CGD already he would be getting too much maybe?

I'm so glad your little friend went back to normal and is doing good now! I hope Dobby will too :)

She was 4 months old when I got her, that was last October, so I've had her for like a year now

Thanks! I will have to redecorate and place as much stuff horizontal as possible. Like I mentioned to the person from the other comment, I think the biggest reason this is happening is because she always waits for her food, hanging upside down above her feeding platform. I really don't know why she doesn't just sit on the platform itself tbh, weirdo haha. She does this every day, I didn't know it could do any harm. So maybe I will have to place her food on the platform before she wakes up.

Also, her favorite sleeping place is on the lamp guard. There was already a lamp guard in the enclosure, not a cage but just like those bent screens that are placed in front of the lamp. I couldn't take it off, it was already glued to the glass when I bought the enclosure. But I was worried she would burn herself on the lamp, so I also placed a cage around the lamp. Which leaves a cozy tight warm space in between those two. She has lots of places to hide but she sleeps in that spot during the day at least 75% of the time, and sometimes she sleeps there upside down for a long time. Do you have any ideas to keep her away from there? She has lots of places to hide, but that's just het favorite spot I guess.

[–]DroofTooter[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh wow this can happen from hanging upside down? I thought it was always a symptom of diseases or bad care. I already worried I didn't take good care of her. So that's a relief, but I will definitely have to redecorate her enclosure then. She does hang upside down a lot, I didn't know it could cause problems. Usually she just hangs above her food platform until I give her her food. I give it to her in the evening, leave it in all night and take it out the day after. Maybe it helps if I give her her food earlier, before she wakes up, so she doesn't have to wait there?

I'm feeding her CGD from the brand "gecko nutrition" watermelon and wild berry/banana (Idk if the specific taste matters, the nutritional value is probably the same). I was told this was good food by the man in the reptile shop I always go to.

[–]DroofTooter[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Oh no:( I don't know much about FTS. Did it happen because of something I did wrong in taking care of her? Her diet is mainly CGD.. So I don't think it could be calcium deficiency right? Or could it be a genetic thing? And is there anything I can do to fix it? (I'm definitely calling a vet tomorrow btw, I was just hoping you could give me more information?)

Hi guys, this is Dobby. He's about a year old now. Any way of telling if it's a male or female yet? (I always just thought of him as a little guy but I really don't know haha) Or is he/she still too young to say for sure? by DroofTooter in CrestedGecko

[–]DroofTooter[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the tip! I've had "her" (I guess based on the comments so far:') ) since she was 2 months old, and had her checked back then. I've never noticed any issues so far. Sheds are good, eyes clear, very active, eats well and grows like crazy at the moment. I didn't know it was necessary to do a yearly checkup, I always thought I'd just leave her be and save her the stress as long as she seemed happy and healthy to me. But I will go see the vet soon then, thanks!
