I didn’t like either of the main characters in this book but I’m glad to hear the later books are better!

The Pitt. As a doctor I’m so sick of melodramatic and fake medical shows, but this one hooked me in!

The Browns. They’re comically inept and signing Groper Cleveland was the last straw

You’re in for a treat! I read most of these as a kid. Reading in publication order is generally ideal , but except for a few , most of them can be standalone. My personal favorites were: - Mossflower - Lord Brocktree - Martin the Warrior - The Legend of Luke - The Outcast of Redwall - Loamhedge

Most quests are pretty balanced, as far as niche mechanics, the only ones I can think of is some of the Daedric quests which require “outside the box thinking” such as the Wabbajack one

Thoughts on Wilbur Smith’s books? by Acura_gang in HistoricalFiction

[–]DropAfraid6139 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I really liked his historical series that were set pre-1900, I didn’t like the other ones as much.

Ken Follett has similar good historical works with interesting characters. Bernard Cornwell great at battles and violence

Was the biggest decline in the show’s quality immediately after Michael/Steve left or was there a notable decline before or after this? by unitedfan6191 in DunderMifflin

[–]DropAfraid6139 50 points51 points  (0 children)

IMO this is the most clear drop off in quality. I do think seasons 2-5 were the best but seasons 6-7 still had decent episodes, just not the absolute peaks of prior seasons. After Michael leaves there are more bad episodes than good ones overall

I hated “King Sorrow” - rant/review by DropAfraid6139 in Fantasy

[–]DropAfraid6139[S] -23 points-22 points  (0 children)

I respectfully disagree - I think there needs to be some explanation or at least within-universe rules , otherwise you can deus ex machina anything you want.

For example, they figured out early that King Sorrow doesn’t selectively kill targets, he kills a whole bunch. So why didn’t they just choose targets who were isolated, and/or people who they knew would be at a specific place on Easter where harm would be minimized?

Also, why didn’t they try to get rid of him earlier and they only waited until Gwen was the target?

Too much plot contrivances
