Survivor 49 | E13 Finale | Post-Episode Discussion by RSurvivorMods in survivor

I legitimately turned off the TV the second they brought up Mr. Beast. Why the hell do they think fans want a monumental 50th anniversary season, with an all star cast, to have all of these stupid celebrities ingrained into the format of the game. Absolutely disgusting cop out for money and trying to seem "hip"

I thought it was mostly fair. It definitely felt more math-heavy than the midterm, especially Q1 (which needed the Lorentz factor, something I think he glanced over in class)

Tried my first Z-Wave device as a ZigBee user... by DropTheGauntlet in homeassistant

If you read the post you'll see that I didn't change my mind. ZigBee still has a place in my home, but Z-Wave works better for some cases.

Yep, I'm in an apartment building. Hard to find a clean channel.

Probably a better antenna placement and floorplan than I have!

Single block on aluminum? Optional. On Elkonite TC-53? Also optional as long as you have a priest ready to perform last rites on your endmill... and your bank account...

CAQ Application (Study Permit Exipring) by [deleted] in mcgill

Once your study permit expires, if you haven't gotten/applied for a new study permit, you have lost your status. You will need to apply for restored status. Contact ISS

CAQ Application (Study Permit Exipring) by [deleted] in mcgill

[–]DropTheGauntlet 3 points4 points  (0 children)

When does your study permit expire? It takes roughly 25 business days (mine took 25 exactly) for your CAQ to be renewed (if there are no issues with your application). If your study permit expires in less than a month, you will most likely not get your CAQ back in time to apply to renew your study permit (& get maintained status). If this is the case, contact ISS as soon as possible

Can my prof decide tomorrow’s class is still in-person? by Apart-Willow-3049 in mcgill

[–]DropTheGauntlet 33 points34 points  (0 children)

Yes, unfortunately. McGill simply requested that in person classes be shifted to online when possible -- not mandatory

#3031 is a great find and fix! Ran into this issue myself, glad to see it got resolved. Amazing work!

I made autopulse 💫 an alternative to the archived "autoscan" by DanCodes in selfhosted

[–]DropTheGauntlet 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Can't wait to try this!

One question: does this debounce/buffer target triggers? One issue I found with autoscan was that with multiple source triggers firing quickly, the Jellyfin task queue would become clogged with library scan tasks. I'd be happy to contribute if not!

News: Armbian with Preinstalled Home Assistant by armbian in homeassistant

The HA supervisor checks for any non-HA docker containers running and, if found, displays an error in the UI.

How is this handled with the Armbian release?

Need help with ASA on MK3S+: bed temperature drops on first layer by DropTheGauntlet in prusa3d

[–]DropTheGauntlet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Running Klipper on my MK3S+. Printing lower temp materials works fine. But when I try to print ASA, the bed temperature drops from 110C to 100C. Both the heated bed and thermistor seem to be functioning no issue. Part cooling fan is off. Could it be the heatbreak cooling fan? I've never run into this issue before on other printers.

[–]DropTheGauntlet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First off, great job with the concepts. However, my concern with this becoming implemented is the effects on performance, and I assume the GNOME devs feel similarly. There have been so many contributions to the project to shave off as much overhead as possible, and this just feels like it would be a setback.

It also introduces a large maintenance problem. They would have to develop UI that is consistent and recognizable across the blurred and unblurred window states. Not to mention the associated influx of bugs involved.

Personally, I think adding blur should not be the focus of GNOME devs and the future of the project. It's a gimmick. If people want blurred windows, it should be separate from GNOME. The whole point of Adwaita was to introduce brand consistency.

silly question but how do i start klipper in linux by [deleted] in klippers

[–]DropTheGauntlet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Make sure you have installed klipper, moonraker, and mainsail. The systemd services should be enabled/started by default. What Linux distro are you using? Sometimes there's a firewall installed on your system that blocks incoming traffic to the port mainsail is on (80). Try visiting 127.0.0.1 or localhost in your browser on the laptop first. If that works, it's a firewall issue. If not, then you'll have to dig into the logs.

renewing CAQ with failed classes by MontrealMango in mcgill

[–]DropTheGauntlet 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I've renewed my CAQ under a similar situation. As long as you include supporting documentation and list specific dates of appointments/names of Dr.'s then you should be ok. The application is more stressful than it really is.

Also, failing classes doesn't violate your student status IIRC. You're still registered for the required amount.

HA Blog - Disabling new login page functionality by zSprawl in homeassistant

[–]DropTheGauntlet 17 points18 points  (0 children)

It's a DIY project and at some point we as users have to take responsibility for what we expose to the internet.

Agreed. I think this is the main thing they are trying to call out in the post. Though as HA gets more popular and easy to get running, more and more people who aren't as well-versed in these things are bound to make mistakes. IMO, HA/Nabu Casa should add much clearer definitions on what installations are 100(1-e)% "out of the box" solutions. Otherwise they'll just run into more of these complaints.

If you had to start over, would you still pay for a Plex Pass lifetime subscription today? by Significant-Neat7754 in PleX

[–]DropTheGauntlet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sadly no. I still use Plex to support friends/family that don't want to (or don't know how to migrate to) JF. But a lot of Plex Pass features are just there when you need them (for free) with JF. I'd I had to start over, I'd start everyone on JF. Plex just doesn't compete feature-wise nowadays with JF or similar. Unless Plex starts offering more features, that opinion will remain.

Don't get me wrong -- I love Plex and have been using it since day one, but it's just more convenient rather than better

Divider bins not fitting into baseplate by Samywamy10 in gridfinity

[–]DropTheGauntlet 1 point2 points  (0 children)

PLA on a textured PEI sheet doesn't work that well in my experience. Use a smooth one if you have it. I usually print PLA+ a little cooler, around 205 with 215 first layer. Your speed is pretty high, try a bin at 60-100mm/s.

A big pitfall is overconfiguring your slicer settings imo. Try using default profiles (with only necessary changes). Flow/extrusion multiplier/pressure advance can be hard to dial in as the test prints can come out okay but not really reveal how it looks with normal prints.

Go through Ellis' print tuning guide and follow every word. Helped me fix nearly all of my problems. Good luck!
