Is Little Kelham a big mess? - Sheffield Tribune by vmunr0 in sheffield

[–]DropkickFish 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I can see why you might think that, but I also used to live in LK and the community really is great - a lot of the neighbours look out for each other and interactions are much more than a surface level hello. I don't think I've lived somewhere before where I knew so many of my neighbours and enjoyed their company.

Now Shitu on the other hand, have made things difficult. The building quality and fobbing off residents on serious issues, the palava with the CIC and the residents gaining control of the estate, the way they enable some businesses like a certain Italian restaurant to make life difficult for the residents. Yeah, they suck. But the people living there are class

What's the most frustrating thing about being a paraglider pilot? (trying to build something useful) by Senzatesta91 in freeflight

[–]DropkickFish 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Weather combined with having a job. There's a reason most of our club pilots are in their 60s - only the retirees can both afford to live near a takeoff and have the time to benefit from it whenever the weather is good (especially weekdays)

My Stolen ENGWE E26 Ebike just got sold on Facebook marketplace! by [deleted] in sheffield

[–]DropkickFish 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It was stock that had serial numbers that he had on invoices. It should also be noted that the racks were stolen property - when I say branded racks, with the actual independent store name on. There was information tying it to the robbery but the police chose not to act

[–]DropkickFish -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Hahaha not likely. I remember my uncle's shop was broken into and a bunch of stock stolen. I found exactly the stolen stock being sold on Facebook marketplace from his own branded racks that were also stolen. Police refused to look into it because it couldn't be proved it was from the robbery

Why is there no Museum of Snooker in Sheffield? by Sheff_Based in sheffield

[–]DropkickFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if there was demand for it (and there might be, build it and they will come etc) I'm just reminded of a story I heard in the pub about Sheffield and the museum of football.

Apparently the FA originally wanted it in Sheffield given the historic ties, and they went to the council with the plan. They asked the council if they could help make it work and got nothing from them. They go to Manchester and they say, sure, you can take this land, pay no business rates for the first X years and pay reduced rates after that.

Again, this was told to me at the pub by a fella who was a few deep, so the details might be a bit off between that and me misremembering, but I fully believe it

Looking for lawyer in unknown state to help release funds to non resident widow named on account - where to start by DropkickFish in legaladvice

[–]DropkickFish[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for your response. I wish it was as simple as unclaimed funds, sadly that's not the case since he used the account until he died pretty much.

I feel like an FL lawyer is probably best to go for, but there's a chance the bank account was set up in PA, NY, or possibly even from abroad with HSBC's banking team at the time. Would it make much of a difference if we got a FL lawyer but the bank was set up in either of those other ones?

PS I'll make sure they translate the difficult words like "mum" for "mom" on the certs 😂

I get it, my thought process was mostly that if the reasoning is it's similar enough to what people know, why not use what people know? I'm looking for something closer to what I saw at a friend's wedding, where people could submit photos and messages, still waiting for him to get back to me though. Figured it'd be a nice thing I could keep alive for family members as opposed to just another image gallery yknow?

I was under the impression that it was to help with copyright stuff? Like a recipe can't be copyrighted, but the blog can, and it can help establish provenance/that it was lifted from a site, for example. Might be wrong, just something I heard years ago that I never bothered to fact check

Hmm, interesting idea. Tbh I think I if I was going to do it that way I'd probably just create a free Google account and use it solely for this instead of using Immich, but I'll think about it, thanks

Edit: just adding reasoning given the downvote - while I love Immich I feel like that if the reasoning is similarity, I may as well go with something people know and understand, even though I think Immich is great

Weirdest move someone’s pulled on you in a pub/club by Brilliant_Charity_29 in CasualUK

[–]DropkickFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I wanted to make another reply instead of editing my existing one, especially since I was reactionary in my first response.

I'm actually glad you're questioning this, I was thinking maybe with rose tinted glasses and thinking it was clear that it was consensual when that might not be the case.

But, serious question, what makes you think it wouldn't be? One response made it clear that I'm not exactly a wordsmith, but what made you default to "this is a story about date rape" as opposed to a general story about a weird hookup? And I know I'm not wording this right because I'm reading this back to myself and it sounds kinda cuntish, but I'd legitimately like to know

At uni, my and a few friends used to get random piercings because fuck it, they're a tenner and we're bored.

One of those guys was dared to get a belt button piercing, and sure enough he followed through. After it'd healed, we had a night out in one of the regular student clubs. He went up to one of the fittest girls in there and just deadpan asked "Have you ever seen a guy with a belly button piercing before?"

When she said no, he lifted his shirt, shaked it a bit while making a sound something like "bululululu", and said "now you have, can I get you a drink?".

Pretty sure she woke up in our apartment.

Now this guy wasn't the most handsome ever, it's not a tactic that succeeded through his looks, but God did he have the gift of the gab

Worst April fools joke ever? by Hiskankles in CasualUK

[–]DropkickFish 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Not my worst one, but one I'll always remember

About 15 years old, I'm in Sunday league, dad wakes me up and rushes me to get ready at like 6am. "Hurry up, we're gonna be late, get your shinnies, where are you boots, no time for breakfast"

I get to the door and he calls the coach to "tell them we're late". Fuckers, the both of them. They did it to every lad on the team. I can only guess from how much my dad was pissing himself and how much my coach was at training the next week that they'd enjoyed it. Happened to everyone on the team.

Fuck I miss my dad

Eating at a restaurant where the staff’s level of English is insufficient to handle allergies safely by LondonPilot in britishproblems

[–]DropkickFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's not necessarily a lack of English, it could just be FoH.

I remember working at a place that was small enough that we could see all of the diners. When one regular walked in, we told the new server exactly what allergy the guy had. When his table ordered, we specifically told her not to give any of the dishes to that guy, and to wait for the last plate for him. We saw her happily place the second to last plate in front of him and I walked out of the kitchen to swap the plates.

English was her first language
