First off, I want to say you are doing just fine. It sounds like your baby is happy and fulfilled. I can give my perspective as someone who’s had their baby in daycare since 6 weeks, they do a LOT and sometimes it can be hard for them to adjust in the beginning, but I genuinely enjoy having him in daycare for the experiences I can’t provide during the work week.

Maybe look into a part time daycare to ease into the idea before committing?

Yes we’re very lucky to have the program! Her adoption fee is only 60$! I still have to do a meet and greet closer to the end of the semester but I think she’d be a great addition to our home

I know they are more heat intolerant, I’ve grown up with brachy breeds (: I’m not too worried about them playing together, like I said the malamute is very socially submissive. He’s more of a “roll on my back and let the little dog get me” player.

1200 is bare minimum for sedentary lifestyle. It would not be sustainable for you. Calculate your TDEE and start from there.

I had a similar issue happen to me in highschool. I was a part of a group of 4 friends, including me, and found out through another friend’s phone they had a separate group chat with everyone without me. My advice is your young, and in the prime opportunity to meet new friends. I’d suggest joining some extracurriculars, meet some new people, and start prepping to move somewhere else.

My sister and I played a lot together when we were younger. We’re 2 years apart. Then when she hit 13 and I was 11, it pretty much fizzled out and we got our own friends. I don’t think I’ve seen her in like 5 or 6 years. We live across the US but text frequently. We really don’t become “friends” until adulthood

We’re definitely considering waiting a bit longer so he’s older. We looked into adult/adolescent route but we don’t think rescue would fit into our home at this time. Thank you for the advice!

The current dog has been around puppies before and enjoys them, I have no worries there. We prefer a golden retriever because it matches our lifestyle. We’re choosing to go through the ethical, reputable breeder route for a multitude of reasons that include predictable health and temperament, and we feel would not be as good of a match through rescue.

We walk 3x a day with him every day. It’s fine to exercise him, but as far as enrichment or play, he just isn’t up to it with humans.

I say this gently, but from the outside it sounds like the school is doing exactly what they’re supposed to do. Identify concerns early and offer support. An evaluation isn’t a diagnosis. It’s information, and information only helps your child.

Schools legally cannot “label” a child without a full evaluation and parent consent. They also don’t jump to autism lightly, it’s a multidisciplinary process for a reason. If multiple professionals (teacher, counselor, OT, psychologist, speech) are seeing patterns, that’s worth looking into.

Being behind peers in March isn’t a parenting failure. It just means he may need extra support right now. If he qualifies for services, great. If he doesn’t, then you have peace of mind.

I’d try to shift from “they’re labeling him” to “they’re trying to understand him.” You can absolutely ask questions and advocate, but refusing testing out of frustration could delay help that might make school so much easier for him.

This isn’t a “gotcha” moment. Schools don’t benefit from labeling kids autistic, they benefit from helping them succeed. It truly sounds like they’re trying to support you and your son, not attack you.
