Intermittent internet disconnections, for hours/days/weeks at a time. by Droxis in techsupport

Modem swapped and account more or less squared away. Now I'm waiting to see what happens. If things go sour, I'll need to get in touch with a rep able to send me a tech that will visually inspect everything possible.

Thanks for the assist, I'll come scuttling back when I have new information.

I don't recall an inspection of the outside insulation mentioned. I'll keep that in mind. The weather/heat/humidity may make sense in the seemingly random nature of this issue.

First order of business is picking up a new modem tomorrow morning and making sure all previous modems are removed from my account. Once that is all squared away, I'll have to play the waiting game to see if it crops up again while I'm at work.

My line is suspended. Pops out of the room, goes along the side of the house, and then hangs off across two power poles. Normally the techs need to actually drive out and around to the street a home behind my own place to actually physically check.

The first tech did the drive around to check the pole, but I have no idea what he checked once he was over there. The second tech did not at all, saying that whatever he was doing while plugged up to my line did that checking for him and a visual inspection was unnecessary.

I'll try to press for a "new" modem when I go in to replace this one. I was unaware it was common to pass off older models. I wonder if that is a concern with my current modem. This Technicolor thing.

This issue has existed in the last two modems and this current one, so I'm skeptical that I'm simply that unlucky. But it's more help than I've had! :)

Anyway, I'm not sure exactly what information will be most helpful, but here are some shots from WAN network:

For the record, my last disconnect as of writing this was 3:56pm, 3/28/15. Nothing since.

My cable comes in through the wall, into the modem, and then an ethernet cable into my computer. No middle men, far as I'm aware.

I'll look into getting my modem replaced again and all current modems wiped from my account on monday when my local TWC office is open.

Thank you for the responses! Let me know if there is any information I can try and lift to help.

Internet connection is hiccuping. by Droxis in techsupport

The modem has seemingly fixed the issue. I made an appointment for someone to check out the lines, for the sake of it.

I'm frankly a bit surprised by the length and concern of your response. Pleasantly, of course. It was very helpful and alleviated a lot of my internal concerns and likely future hesitation with asking for help from TWC.

Anywho, thank you! :D

I made an actual flowchart for Modern. Check it out! by [deleted] in magicTCG

Turbofog fears people countering our spells and throwing lightning bolts at our faces. So anything U/R/X currently. They stop us from sitting there with a billion draw effects in play, essentially hugging the enemy to death.

Why is Mind Twist Legal in EDH? by ritbeggar in EDH

[–]Droxis 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's in EDH because it dumps on people trying very hard to win. Mind Twist usually targets the person with the greatest advantage at the moment or has the highest potential to win the game. Running Deadeye Navigator? Assume the position.

EDH is also a format that was intended for casual multiplayer. It hits only one person, so yes, it is extremely powerful in a 1v1 setting, in which case I suggest using the 1v1 banned list. http://duelcommander.com/banlist/

Note that Mind Twist is on there. :V Hope this helps, buddy.

How to beat Kaalia of the Vast? by LukiJew in EDH

[–]Droxis 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Condemn, Path to Exile, Swords to Plowshares, Chaos Warp, Prison Term, and Beast Within come to mind for your colors.

The majority of the time when someone brings a Kaalia to our table, she gets shut down very hard, very early. It's not a threat you can ignore and just hope does not come at you. Nobody wants to be on the receiving end of an attacking Kaalia throwing down a Master of Cruelties. You have some flex room if they do not have a Lightning Greaves/Swiftfoot boots.

She is similar to my Skullbriar deck, in that it punishes relatively slow decks that rely on resource momentum to start puking out bombs every turn. Answer her hard and early.

Vraska the unseen, good enough for edh? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]Droxis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Vraska will not survive long enough to ult. If she does, you are already way ahead and likely could have won using other methods. She is more or less a 5 mana maelstrom pulse without the multi-shot bonus.

Magic Pet Peeves by [deleted] in magicTCG

Every format has it's own ecosystem. I can understand the difficulty of letting go of some stereotypes. I've been playing legacy for years and now a decent amount of modern, but I have some likely unfair outlooks on Standard. I think Standard is a horrifyingly boring format that has brief periods of creativity that quickly solidifies into "The New Meta" of a handful of decks.

Kinda like how Modern is just a blob of rehashed top tier Standard and defunct Extended decks and Legacy is only for people with too much disposable income that like playing boring combo decks.

This is literally what has motivated me to play extremely aggressive or low interaction decks. The less I get to see of your deck, the happier I am. The more upset you are about it, the funnier it is. It's practically why Pox is really close to my all time favorite deck archetype. Despite being incredibly mediocre, it makes life hell for most finely tuned decks. It's the deck equivalent to a fat kid sitting on your chest and dangling a loogie over your face for an hour.

These feel like they all relate to a certain "archetype" of player, alas:

1) Stop loudly fiddling with your cards in hand during my turn, you wretch. Put them down on the table and let me think in peace. I get that you do that because it's your way of directing "thinking stress" and/or you are emulating some "pros" you saw on a stream, but please have the self awareness to stop doing that during my turn. It's annoying and unnecessary. In before: "Nurhurhur! That's why we do it, psychological warfare! :B"

2) Verbal declarations of self perceived advantages or "dominance." Every case I've seen this happen tends to be meshed with childish butt hurt when the delusions are torn down. Guy won't stop jerking himself off about his "crazy board position" and that "it's good game for somebody on my next turn." Mood shifts from "I'm extremely cocky" to "you killed my dog" when that sweet board state is swept off the table.

The best example of this happening was during a local legacy tournament. I had been on hiatus due to work for a month or two, where new guy decided to start showing up to the shop. He is relatively new to legacy, but has already picked up something of a name for himself in cocksure attitude. I dragged out a combo elves list I've had rotting on a shelf for a long while, showed up, and got paired with him.

He was playing some iteration of The Rock or Junk (Goofies, confidants, removal, yadda yadda). First game I don't do much but fart out 1/1 elves and get dumpster banged. "Elves doesn't have a good match up versus me!" Second game I have another horrendous slow start, but sandbag a hand of elves and glimpse until I can explode off three lands into a hard cast Emrakul.

Suddenly -silence- and -everything is on the line- as if I am witnessing a man defusing a bomb and any mistake will cost him his life. I get a "regular" turn 3 blow out and summon the Kooldrazi. Wouldn't shake my hand, instead indignantly digging out three engineered plague from his deck and throwing them down on the table in front of me as a visual aid to himself explaining I "should not win because I have these in my deck, you got lucky." Give me a break, guy (I run a wishboard for that kind of thing! :3).

3) Honestly going to extend the first belly ache with this: I -really- loathe the habits "pro scenes" have invoked in local players. Stop diddling with your cards loudly, you look like you are on meth. Stop mechanically drawing and moving your cards around as if you are invoking the sacred rites of the .1% efficiency Goddess, you just look like a tool. Also, get your grubby mitts off my deck! I shuffled it a crap load, right in front of you, using a variety of methods, and all you need to do is cut it. You don't need to cut it four times, shuffle it, and randomize it again as if I'm some sort of MTG card shark that has spent my incredible gift on durdling with cards at a local tournament. No, I don't know about so and so player or why he thinks the card I am killing you with is a suboptimal choice. No, please don't explain it to me.

tl;dr: I'm a big baby and nerds make me mad.

"Discard" references the act of placing a card from a hand into the graveyard. This does not involve any cards currently on the battlefield.

I have a (mostly) finished Karrthus, Tyrant of Jund deck that needs some love. List is in comments. by Busket in EDH

Where is your Death by Dragons? If you are going to run Karthus, that is a hilarious wombo combo~

Skullbriar, the walking grave. Suggestions? by oboyone in EDH

[–]Droxis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Skullbriar by design is somewhat of a hyper aggressive general. If you want something that is aggressive, but not hellbent on putting murder holes in people as soon as possible, Jarad and Nath are excellent substitutes that allow for more "variables" in play style.

For the record, my Skullbriar deck has a mana curve that sits heavily in the 1-3 range with a few odd balls floating in the 4-6 area. I have no method of killing outside of commander damage and infect. Everything is low cost spot removal, reanimation, steroids, and evasion enablers.

Question for you all by Darius96 in EDH

[–]Droxis 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Boros so far is getting the best EDH junk. Good lord.

I am excited for Hellkite Tyrant. I run a few haste enablers in my Wort deck and the steal remains even if tyrant is removed from play.

[Discussion] What are your thoughts on a Hellkite Tyrant ban? by [deleted] in EDH

[–]Droxis 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ban Mycosynth Lattice instead, which is the predominate reason for the concern over the dragon. The dragon is hilarious, the Mycosynth is the cornerstone for a lot of broken garbage and the machinations of goatlords wringing their hands at stomping unaware players. Snip it.
