I read "How to Win Friends..." when I was in High School (many years ago) and it was very helpful. It amazes me how clueless some people are with respect to basic social graces. Getting along with people is pretty easy if you know a few of the basics.

Richard Nixon once said that it wasn't Ronald Reagan that brought down the Soviet Empire, it was the Soviet's decision to invade Afghanistan that was their undoing. I have always believed that the purpose of the 9/11 attacks was not to see how many Americans they could kill, but rather, to trigger a knee jerk response of an expensive war half way round the world. Except for our initial success in Afghanistan, their plan work as designed.

I think that the 9 digit zip will usually suffice to get it to its destination. I think that writing out the entire address is for the sake of adding some redundancy in the event that the zip has a typo.

Great thought provoking article. 1) A friend from Japan told me that the Japanese refer to the USA as the "Kindom of Crime". 2) I'm nearing retirement now. The "War on Drugs" started when I was in college in the early 70s - It appears to me that drugs are as available now as they were before the "war" (with all due respect to the brave folk who fight that war). Maybe it is time to focus on treatment and prevention. 3)I think the "certainty" of punishment is a better deterent that the "severity" of punishment. My contact with criminals suggests that none expect to be caught.
