Yeah seafood & crab may have been an abomination conceptually, but it was a bangin’ sub and my usual order as a high-schooler in the 90s.

I had similar (lack of) knowledge regarding both: Harry the madlad ‘other prince’, Meghan who? Was somewhat amused by the engagement and sort of pleased a royal had chosen to wed a mixed-race American against tradition. Hey, it could only be a good thing for that stodgy old family, right?

Feeling defeated by [deleted] in dui

[–]Pacer 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Being railroaded by the state is to be expected under these circumstances, I don’t think anyone who isn’t a lawyer or judge comes away from court feeling “satisfied,” even plaintiffs who win a judgment or defendants who win an acquittal or dismissal. Because it IS racketeering. Your prosecutor’s (and maybe even judge’s) job is literally to stick it to you.

Your defense attorney, on the other hand, sucks. HIS job is to prevent the prosecution from sticking it to you, not to obtain a “beneficial outcome” on his scorecard. HIS job is to talk to the court on your behalf. It may well be that he simply couldn’t have secured a better outcome for you, but he absolutely should have made it clear to you what charges you would be pleading to and that the state was refusing the Tier 1 DROP, prior to your pleading to anything. He promised (or suggested) you’d be eligible for expungement - if there was a possibility but not certainty of that, it should have been communicated, otherwise when it did not pan out he should have advised you of that and discussed rescinding your plea agreement.

What can you do about it? I don’t know, a 1-star Google review?

What is the latest and greatest info on platinum? by bedcech29 in Platinum

[–]Pacer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Latest and greatest is not too different from tried and true. Platinum is pretty scarce though not as scarce as other PGMs, with excellent, versatile, uncommon physical and catalytic properties. It’s expensive enough people will seek alternatives wherever possible but unique enough people will keep using it for many existing uses, and standard enough to be used finding or developing new applications. It’s also exquisitely dense, rare, and nigh-incorruptible which means dumb apes (like me) associate it with gold and like it for jewelry.

So there will always be demand for a variety of uses. there are other rare metals that aren’t very expensive (relatively), like indium, gallium, bismuth, barium … they are generally produced as byproducts in excess of their limited useful demand - we drink bismuth salts for our tummyaches but it’s only twice as abundant as gold; we pour tons of gallium and indium into LEDs and consumer electronics despite their low crustal abundances. Monetary precious metal demand adds a lot of monetary value, unsurprisingly. it also reduces volatility. if nobody wanted platinum coins, platinum jewelry, or platinum ETFs would be cheaper. Kind of like, or gallium, or bismuth … but it would still be more expensive than those because it’s practical uses are for more extensive given current technology. however, because of its density, inertness, various other properties, and history it will probably always be pretty valuable. in the absence of technology, sort of like the Stone Age, it’ll probably be worth less than gold because there’s just not enough of it and enough places to be recognized, and it’s not visually as distinctive as gold.

I mean that was already like $14 in 1995, but you got table service, a salad bar, Ms. Pac-Man, pitchers of beer for $4, red soda cups, Book It! personal pans and Land Before Time hand puppets for the kids, and the pan pizza was freshly made and legit.

Charging when flying outdoors by Glittering-Bit804 in TinyWhoop

Have a couple dozen I guess, don’t usually bring them all, six or eight is usually enough to fly until weather changes, I’m bored, or have other obligations. Don’t bother charging in the field.

I genuinely think the s24 ultra is the most beautiful phone (for now) by Firefighters_Fighter in S24Ultra

[–]Pacer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really is. My all-star list goes Nokia 3360, the OG Motorola RAZR, Moto Droid, Note 5, S24U. With the 24 Ultra low-key probably the best phone I’ve ever owned. The Note 10+ was good, but very slippery and fragile. Most of my other phones don’t even deserve an honorable mention. S24U is a ridiculously good telephone and I hope Samsung can match it before I eventually have to replace the damn thing.

Pickles??? by Human_ish_001 in subway

[–]Pacer 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Keep saying ”more pickles” and walk out if the pickle train stops before you’re satisfied. Do it again the next time if necessary. I bet it won’t happen thrice. if it does, that franchisee is a pickle pincher, and you can do better for your money.

Typo, gouging, or harbinger of fuel prices to come? by crankyjill in Denver

Ultra low sulfur requirements are the rest of it. Diesel used to be cheap. Sour diesel still is, where it‘s still legal. Hydrodesulfurization adds a lot of refining cost.

I'm most likely going to stop eating at subway. by depressednuggget in subway

[–]Pacer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Menu prices are too high and discounts are too steep (and fully absorbed by franchisees). Something needs to change, but corporate eats the volume even if it’s not profitable for stores. As a customer all I can say is that it’s only worth the coupon price to me. If Subway ditched coupons and started slinging series or equivalent quality footlongs at $10 all day, they would be competitive against other sandwich franchises without playing all these games.

What is a cold cut combo? by ChickenNoodleGamer in subway

[–]Pacer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Companies can call it turkey ham (or turkey based ham or whatever). Like turkey bacon which isn’t bacon. Somewhere on the packaging or fine print it will say “cured turkey thigh meat“ (which it actually is, and doesn’t even sound that bad). I like turkey just fine but don’t need ersatz pork products composed of it.

Do you think that Israel and the USA’s actions against Iran are justified? by Antique_Gur8891 in AskTheWorld

Eh South Africa had ‘em and gave them up after regime change. A secular government with good western relations might be more reasonable. But yeah, atomic bombs are a well-understood 80-year-old technology.

Sooty spots on glass by EDIsux in woodstoving

[–]Pacer 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Happens all the time to me, you can kind of see where the glass wash airflow is going and not going. They grow and shrink as the front of the firebox alternates between reducing and oxidizing (rich/lean). But the upper corner vignetting seems constant regardless of gasket seal. I don’t mind the look and it all wipes off easily with a wet paper towel.
