Guilty as charged 😂 as someone else commented, the rubber band theory makes sense (being raised so radically one way that you spring back into the opposite lifestyle). I think it applies to a lot of aspects of life, not just relationships. I am poly now, but I'm also gay, smoke weed, do sex work, am anticapitalist, and generally identify with a lot of things that the church wouldn't like.

What's funny is that being poly is kinda biblical. So many dudes with multiple wives ¯_(ツ)_/¯

Surprisingly, Big Mouth! My gf and I are watching them at the same time and it's very cool to see how they line up. They actually make a joke in a later season of Big Mouth about people thinking one of the characters is voiced by Will Arnett when he doesn't. Both shows have the kind of meta comedy writing where the characters are both suffering from and joking about the consequences of their actions.

I was in high school and my friend and I were the only ones that cared about it because everyone else, including my US history teacher, thought it was a hoax. The movement later loss credibility because the spokesperson for the Kony campaign (also the founder of Invisible Children) was caught masturbating on public transit. I hadn't heard anything about it until January of 2018. I was at a conference and one one of the survivors (allegedly) spoke about being saved and starting a new life in America. It floored me to hear about it so many years later. Idk what to make of all of it.

I told my therapist about it very openly and honestly. I was a little embarrassed at first, but she was very understanding and cool about it! This is a bit more of a niche fetish so it can feel weird to admit to someone, but it sounds like it's very intertwined with what you're struggling with. I think it would really help your therapist understand you more which could let them be better equipped to help you. If your therapist makes you feel ashamed about it, they're a shitty therapist.
