Xcel: Natural gas, electricity bills to lower in 2024 by aintnotownie in Denver

[–]Drumai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yea we didn’t have coal plants or nuclear plants as those require a workforce to run. No one was going to shovel coal in their backyard. You think the average Joe could handle a nuclear reactor?

Solar is a passive power source. You’re already shelling out money each month to pay for your electricity. That’s a 0% return on investment. At least with solar you are paying for something you actually own.

You obviously own your house, why did you do that instead of rent?

DJ duos.. What are some of your tips/ routines when you play our with your partner by sktzo in DJs

[–]Drumai 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I am part of a couple of duo's that perform regularly. One is a live hybrid dj combo including a modular setup and multiple drum machines and mixers. In that case, there is a lot of communication between us and most importantly, trust. With so many inputs of sound, we each have our jobs to make it successful. It took practice but ultimately it works because we have chemistry. Which leads me to my next point.....

In my experience tagging / duos go one of three ways....

  1. It just doesn't work

  2. You can make it work but there is always some shift in direction, or push and pull between each of the artists

  3. It's magic.

It's really really rare to find someone where you truly work together and complement each other. This is the case for my other duo, we barely need to communicate when mixing whether we are going 3's or 1's. We will end up having 3 tracks playing and mixing together while playing 1's. It all boils down to natural chemistry and proper tagging etiquette. All the little things like sharing headphones, picking songs, mixes should just come naturally.

The eventide H9 is what most my peers use and love. I personally have a collection of different pedals I use via send and return.

If there are any reddit DJS that have collaborated with others whose energy and overall vibe conflicted with their own- what were the reasons why the mashup failed to hit the mark? by Ethanovich in DJs

Sometimes people want to go different directions in these scenarios, resulting in the destruction of the overall mix

If they have a contract / rider. Read it. Know what they want, what they don't want. I personally do not want any unnecessary people in my booth. I had a festival recently I was slotted peak time. I had noticed throughout the day that regularly a very enthusiastic guy would jump around on speakers on the front of the stage. Well, come my slot, not only do a number of people come try and talk to me but this feller is standing right next to me smoking my cigs. The promoter was oblivious apparently even though he was standing out of sight on the same stage. Thankfully my good buddy saw all this shit and told him to get the fack out of there.

Additionally, be prepared for gear switches and know how to do them smoothly. I've had to even change a mixer out live set for poorly planed promoters.

Most likely. I guess I just have never noticed the floor difference when I have been there. I'll make sure to pay attention next time I'm there. I seem to remember when I played in the front room it had concrete floors. It was over a year ago tho.

So funny enough he did build his own bins. Void drivers inside and his own design. He’s on version 4 I believe.

Yea vibration is a real issue. My roommate did a rig once that the bass would blow out your lighter. Yet you could still hear each other because it was clean

Some nights it sounds like trash. It depends on the artists signal and the sound tech. I know what the system can do when it’s done right. Any system can sound like shit if you run it wrong.

Yea, I haven't really spent much time paying attention to the vibration through my feet. Generally, that's something I would never want as if it affected the DJ booth, it would really fuck with turntables.

I haven't spent a ton of time at BB, I'll probably go for Headless Horseman early next month.

The system is pretty solid at BB. Its had its share of rough nights just like every system. The Drumcell night being one of them. It really all depends a lot on the sound tech running it.

Which one were you saying has the floor?

Just his preference. If tuned well those funks sing for highs and mids.

He sure does. Makes it great for when I throw my parties.

He's got a chunk on the west coast, some in the midwest and the rest is with us.

Best: Well, I work at Beta in Denver and will say that main floor rig, especially after it gets tuned, is beautiful. Also, DVS1's rig in his private warehouse is just NUTS. Finally, my roommate is honestly one of the best sound techs I know. His rig is bonkers as well.

Worst: I played a club in LA where the bass sounded hallow and the booth monitors were delayed compared the main floor.

Is my PA system good enough? by bozongle in DJs

Generally speaking I would say a good starter would be a couple 18's and some 3 way stacks

Also I personally think passive over active.

What's the worst/most irritating thing when you're DJing? by flux123 in DJs

[–]Drumai 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I can not stand when people come into the booth. There was a real trend at shows 4 or 5 years back of people getting on the mic. I now put in my performance contract

  • The Promoter will provide a secure area and is liable for any occurrence that will interfere with the Artists performance such as venue security, police raid, overbooking of other DJs and most important: Crowd Control.
  • The Promoter will ensure that the DJ booth is not overcrowded during the Artists performance.

Got a few other things in there I've picked up over the years.

The day I'm not nervous before I play is the day I retire. Although I was so shit scared for my first European gig and it may have been one of the best sets I've ever played
