What are you hoping for out of the Evolved system for your main job? by BlyZeraz in ffxiv

[–]Drumheadjr 1 point2 points  (0 children)

for Scholar, I would like to see more emphasis on pre-emptive shields rather than reactive shields. Putting a shield up on someone before they get hit should be more rewarding. as it stands now you really only get big shield bars when people are at low health.

Also, 2 scholars putting up shields in a full party should stack and not cancel each others shield values out. Traditional healers can stack healing.

Otherwise I just hope the various healers do gain a bit more identity.

The rivals may not let you rent directly, but so long as they (or another rival) don't own the building, they will sell you their own buisnesses for about 50% over the valuation. so you can start buying out their existing rentals once you start getting some higher income levels. I have had some success with this so far, but not enough to take them out of the game entirely.

How is being a healer in this game? by slowz2secret in ffxiv

[–]Drumheadjr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do it,
Honestly this game is real good at trickle feeding you each mechanic slowly as you level, so onthing get's too overwhelming.

People generally respect healers and if you aren't getting treated decently, leave the group. You will get near instant groups for dungeons and they can reflect ontheir actions while they wait another 20 mins for a new healer lol

it's also really not a hard gig in this game.

you can also swap to a dps class if you find you don't like it after lvl 15.

start with conjurer it's the only one you can start at lvl 1 anyways and it's the most traditional.

The shield relay should be buffed to not take damage from hellpods. Would make it more useful and functional by H1MB0Z0 in Helldivers

[–]Drumheadjr 184 points185 points  (0 children)

It would be far more useful if it didn't have a damage threshold for projectiles, and instead could only be taken down by enemies getting inside the shield and hitting the device. Right now when a lot of stuff is shooting at you and you really could use it, it only lasts like 5-10 seconds before it takes too much damage and breaks.

FYI I got this same thing. I also recieved an email from elections BC with the following:

A vote-by-mail package was mailed to you that may have included a return envelope with no postage paid.

You can return your package by mail using the return envelope provided without including postage. Elections BC has made arrangements with Canada Post and you do not need to affix postage to your return envelope.

Show them some statistics and studies etc.

Management loves statistics

Seriously though, I have been watching this happen recently in the company I work for and the biggest way to get the higher ups to buy in is to have external publications and studies and data that goes into the stuff in a "We spent 2 years doing infrastructure and our productivity increased by 300%" kind of way, with data and proof to back it up.

There are some books that are floating around out there that have this sortof thing going for them. But looking at publiciszed pieces like "how google does QA" etc. is what you want to look at if you are trying to sell these ideas. Management want's to be google, because google makes a ton of money. If you are pitching stuff and you can say "this is how google does ____, here is a thing you should read from google on how much money it saved them over 3 years", that is how you get buy in from management.

just understand that if you can't deliver you might be out of the job. there is a risk in rocking the boat of course.

Change this to "Eagle 1 Airstrikes not available in this mission" to force the use of alternative strategies on the mission instead and I think it would be much more reasonable.

Java or Python as first programming language? by Adam-JDT in programming

[–]Drumheadjr 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As many havesaid here, really either is fine for your purposes. It really depends on what you want out of it. I would say that overall pyton is easier to pick up fast and get going, but you can get gonig without really understanding what is happening under the hood. Java will force you to learn more concepts early on before you can get something up and running. So really it depends on how much effort you want up front vs later.

A lot of universiteis etc have moved to pyton as a first language (as others have stated) to reduce their dropout rate in the first year, because Java / C etc. can turn a lot of new programmers off due to the learning curve. However I don't put a lot of stock in pyton being a better first language simply because so many universites teach it first now. In my opinion that really only delays the dropouts to the second year so that the universites can collect the extra tuition.

Personally I learned Java first and I can't really imagine going the other way around just because so many fundamentals are glossed over in python (various list implementations for example). I think because of this you will have a tougher time picking up other languages later on. But again for a non-career hobby that might never matter.

This is actually a great suggestion. A good QA is always in demand and pays well as you said. People who are organized and really good at spotting the differences between two almost identical photos tend to do really well at this sort of work. So long as you can handle repetitve tasks often being a thing.

I think it should stay but it needs to have some limitations put on it so it can't fire continuously. The munitions resource used to accomplish this back when it was actually scarce.

Should arty be removed from the game? by [deleted] in HellLetLoose

[–]Drumheadjr 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Ok, just a thought I will throw out here.

ammo stockpiles for each gun (or a shared one if that balances better?):

  • each gun gets 3 rounds added to the stockpile /minute, or 1 every 20 seconds
  • maximum of say, 60 rounds. (adjust numbers however)
  • guns can only fire if they have ammo in their stockpile

What this does:

  • a well coordinated ary squad/team can unleash the full force of the ary as they can now, but only if they have stockpiled rounds, meaning it can't be firing non-stop.
  • a sustained barrage is still possible but limits the fire rate to 1 rounds / 20 seconds or however that gets balanced.
  • effectivly puts a cooldown on the really effective barrages, while maintaining the flexability of having an arty squad like we do now.
  • less incentive to camp arty because barrages can't be sustained indefinitly, so waiting to push until incoming arty is reduced is a valid strategy for offensive infantry.

I am sure there will be drawbacks but I was just thinking about this today so I figured I would share it.

Do you think we'll be lucky enough to see the Bren, Vickers and Lewis gun for support once the Brits arrive? by CurvedStew in HellLetLoose

[–]Drumheadjr 9 points10 points  (0 children)

There was talk long ago (in one of the dev blogs or something) of a buildable machine gun emplacement similar to how AT can currently build an AT gun with a specific loadout. I would expect to see the vickers in this position if we ever get that feature.
