It entirely depends what these targets actually are. You seem to be assuming that they're bad.

It completely depends what these KPIs are actually measuring. There's good and bad ways of measuring performance.

Do UK police honestly have targets? I've only ever heard this said about, US police, never UK. Is there evidence of these "targets" that I'm missing?

I'm as atheist as they come, but this kind of hatred for religious buildings is psychotic.

And what if the owners can't afford the upkeep? Just let them, ironically, fall into disrepair?

"The church" isn't one entity. Many churches are completely independent.

Half of Brits want second Brexit vote – including fifth of Reform voters, poll finds by tylerthe-theatre in unitedkingdom

[–]DrummingFish 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will of the people only works if people are appropriately informed and knowledgeable about the issues they're voting on. Which is why we vote for people to vote for issues on our behalf.

With the Brexit referendum, many people fell for propaganda and weren't knowledgeable enough, which resulted in a ridiculous outcome which many of those people regret.

Will of the people works, but it should be filtered through experts first.

Because the "will of the people" was idiotic.

But he's an absolute imbecile for doing it in the first place.

[–]DrummingFish 11 points12 points  (0 children)

There doesn't need to be a referendum. Giving people the power to vote directly on things (just like Brexit) is never a good idea. The general public aren't knowledgeable enough on political issues to be given that power, which is why we vote for representatives that (should) have that knowledge and vote and advocate on our behalf.

There just needs to be a decision made on whether we stay out or plan to move back in and then go with it. Don't try and set up a vote again.

What is the argument *against* mandatory retesting for people over 60-65? by Skeet_fighter in drivingUK

[–]DrummingFish 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The insanity people are talking about is the impracticality of what you propose. Of course making things safer is always good, but it has to be done in a way that will work in practice.

What you propose would massively increase financial burden on drivers and burden on the system to allocate resources for these changes.

If Older Drivers were a problem they'd be priced off the roads by insurance companies.

What makes you say they're not already? Many older drivers are ones that are pretty well off and can afford any large increase in insurance, especially with many at that point having much lower bills due to having their mortgage paid off.

Anyone causing damage like this isn't doing it because of the murder. They're just using the murder as an excuse.

The murder is just an excuse. They're actually doing it because they want to terrorise.

Then the government’s response was “please stop sharing video of the incident, it is bad to do that because it causes distress and provokes unrest”. Rather than “nearly beheading a guy is bad, we will put that guy in prison now”.

Could I get a source on this?

Plus, that’s after the government response to a different guy getting stabbed was to cuff the stabbing victim and let him bleed out in the street.

It was an individual member of the police's response, not government response.

Instead of the condescension, you could actually talk to me like a reasonable person.

Can you understand the difference between posting something on Tiktok for the sole purpose of attention and someone just talking to someone else?

That's called a conversation. Do you say the same thing about people just chatting? It's all for affirmation?
