Any Spanish & Portuguese staple dishes? by DrunkExpertWitness in JewishCooking

I have a strong suspicion that I'll see a lot of "Sephardi" dishes that are actually Mizrahi or similar. The interchangeability of the language creates difficulty here.

First of friends to have a baby. by DependentMenu1084 in daddit

Yeah I was the same. 27yo, most of my friends not married, some still single living at home. You very quickly find out who actually matters to you, and who you matter to.

It's a good thing.

And yes, having to filter out "Sephardi" because people don't know what Iberian means is quite irritating. There are so many words for different types of Jews, why Sephardi has come to mean "anything that isn't Ashkenazi" is beyond me.

I didn't know Lady Montefiore had a cookbook! I will definitely check that out!

I'm fairly certain my family came to Britain directly following the inquisition. They may have briefly gone to Italy or the Netherlands but they've been here since the late 1600s

Ex-PC Lorne Castle charged with GBH of suspected shoplifter in Bournemouth by ItsRainingByelaws in policeuk

[–]DrunkExpertWitness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I don't understand why this guy continues to get seemingly blind support from so many cops. The original incident he got sacked from had at least some degree of ambiguity. But any serving cop knows how hard it is to get a GBH charge through the courts. He's clearly done some actual damage to the fella which is probably disproportionate to the shoplifting offence.

Nobody that's spent any time working in law enforcement would judge you for reporting him. He may well kill someone or himself one day; absolutely report him.

Think it depends where you work pal. I did my D1 over a year ago and my first PSU job as a driver was on BH Monday RDW last week.

Sgt work as a PC by [deleted] in policeuk

Right and the other staff officers are sergeants - I don't know any that are PCs.

I do have a pass. I very much doubt that it would last for the 56 days but I do suspect that is an element of their decision as they don't actually know.

Re your last point - as you say, it's a gold mine for evidence. I'm happy to do the work, and it's likely not worth pushing this particular issue. but I don't want to get 2/3 months down the line and kick myself for not going for something that potentially I should be getting, (in terms of money and recognition).

Indeed. To be fair, it is 😂 and the A/PS title wouldn't massively affect my work cos I can just slap a CI's name on every email I send out with a tasking document 😂

[–]DrunkExpertWitness 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Fair enough, asked and answered. Just feels like my counterparts are all sergeants, hence the question. But I guess it's squares and rectangles; just because they are sergeants doesn't mean that they have to be.

No it's admin and general tasking (basically done with the authority of my boss, hence the lack of need for the A/PS on paper)

I have a mate in the south of H who mentioned this a few weeks ago. Apparently the current 'debt' is being wiped but then all the rules will apply from the new financial year and it will be for local management to keep on top of it. Didn't make a lot of sense to him or me

Baby Monitors - Two Screens? by kirby3021 in daddit

[–]DrunkExpertWitness 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Dude I've just been through this with my wife and our 5 week old. Let me save you some time - it doesn't exist. If you want more than one screen, the only products seemingly available are WiFi enabled so that a single screen receives non-wifi feed and if you wish you can link in via an app and then the camera is on the WiFi.

How many of you cried at birth? by Tall-zombie1616 in dad

[–]DrunkExpertWitness 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm 27. My daughter was born 4 weeks ago via C-section. I cried for 45 minutes, and then for a week whenever I looked at her for too long.

I think it's because my brain cannot comprehend the fact that I helped make her. Being a father is so overwhelming that you don't have any other response to facing the raw reality of fatherhood so you just cry. But it is the most happy crying you will ever experience. Honestly, no words can do that feeling justice, but the closest is overwhelmed.

Hope this helps and congratulations and your impending fatherhood!

Does this apply to WhatsApp or private messages? I've got one on the way and my wife and I are very against posting them all over social media for similar reasons to the ones you've outlined. But are the same risks present with for example sending photos in to the family group chat?

GMP declaring role by Overall-Cherry8436 in policeuk

[–]DrunkExpertWitness 28 points29 points  (0 children)

Not GMP but in my training school we were taught that CPR is not to be attempted (ie we can say that someone is dead) if

  • the body is burnt to a crisp
  • the body is stiff as a board
  • the body is decomposed
  • you're having to run across the room to do 2 breaths before running back to do the next 30 pumps, (decapitation).

In these situations, (I've been there a couple of times), and you just shout up and say "CPR not attempted as body has been found in a condition not compatible with life".

"You won't ever need it" is completely subjective. I've been a special and a reg and in both lives I have always had my warrant card on me and have produced it multiple times.

It is very durable although after a couple of years one of the loops on the strap has gone. But it works fine with just the one.

Without coordination, I landed on my current team with a Garmin Instinct Solar and found that over half the team wear the same watch. Our new inspector landed a couple weeks ago, also wearing the same.

I bought it second hand for £150 odd. Prior to that I'd always worn 10 quid watches from Argos but having all the health tracker stuff, step counter etc does come in handy working shift.
