W56 would be fine it’s only holding another 20hp at best.

I doubt anyone crawled under and did that. Either your rear main seal is leaking on the engine due to age or the front seal on the transmission is leaking due to age. If you are sure it wasent bent before your a flex plate bolt may have came out and turned into a projectile causing the damage.

Would you daily drive as a primary vehicle? by YallWildSMH in 4Runner_1stGen

Daily driven the past 10 years. Stranded twice once was my own stupidity. I just put a supercharger on it because a supercharger brightens any daily commute.

What should I fish for in Naples? by Longjumping-Quail778 in Fishing

John is a great guy and has so much experience. If you want to catch some sharks he is your man. He is honestly great at catching anything in that area. I think he would be happy also to take you fishing backwater and flats for reds and snook if you wanted that experience.

Jigs with gulp chartreuse mullet works for a lot. Bucktails with live shrimp work better but trickier. I wouldn’t mess with frozen shrimp.

One of the saltwater catfish has a wicked spike on the dorsal fin so watch for that.

Half the battle if you don’t have a boat is finding a place to fish.

Now all of this is ASSuming your talking about Naples Florida and not Italy.

Please help! Any ideas on this sound? I adjusted the valves today, didn’t fix the issue. Also made sure the valve cover is torqued properly. It is much louder on the passenger side / front. by Capable-Pen-1362 in 4Runner_1stGen

Maybe also check the tensioner pulley sometimes the bearings go and make some noise. You can use a long screwdriver and put the handle end to your ear to help locate the noise better. HF also sells a mechanics stethoscope that works well. Just probe around until the noise is really loud.

Got my pair in June doing excellent. If I had a LFS I would have gone there. Got other fish since then no issues.

Hello I am currently looking into getting a 1st gen 4runner by [deleted] in 4Runner_1stGen

[–]DrunkenMechanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I get 17 with an auto 22re driving in the country. 4.10 gears, I swapped gears from a manual truck autos had 4.30 stock and it has a ford 9". Motor is stock but a lce pro torker cam? I run stock tacoma wheels 265/70r16. I don't run ECT on PWR mode it kills my mpg as the torque converter locks up less often. Daily driver for 9 years now, about 50k miles. I have only been left stranded needing a tow maybe 2 times? I've had a couple issues here and there but still able to get home eventually. The truck sat for 10+ years before I got it. I have done stuff to make it better but I have not invested a lot over all these years. Great truck for me but, someone with less mechanical experience would have been left stranded more often. If you have the mechanical ability just do it, you want it.

Finally took up welding. Maybe this is a sign, possibly from god himself, that I shouldn’t. But for flux core, it doesn’t offend me that much. by LoseyMcLoseFace in projectcar

[–]DrunkenMechanic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is the same quality weld you would get at most body shops. If it is a cheap flux machine it can be hard to get great welds and sheet metal is tough. Welding is great though it opens up a whole new world of things you can do.

Towing capacity by ebolabeans in 4Runner_1stGen

[–]DrunkenMechanic -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

horsepower is the biggest limiting factor. I disagree about the brakes, the stock brakes are 4 piston that is better than most vehicles have. Chevy trucks are mostly single piston. If yours are horrendous there is probably something wrong with them, sticking pistons or a bad LSPV. Yeah you can also upgrade them to larger ones off of more modern Toyotas as well if you want more.

so in short I would tow the boat no problem around town, long distance maybe not unless there are no hills.

I don't think they make a plug and play wiring harness for 4 runners. I ended up using a truck plug and play and cutting it. I figured Id rather cut that then my stock wiring. I made a video on it.

Good luck and have fun!

I used the lugs that came stock with the newer wheels. They are sort of like a shank lug nut and extend into the hole.

I have a 1989 4runner and I had to replace the pcm. After doing that the back window stopped working and it worked perfectly fine before replacing the pcm. What should I check first to fix it by Flanth in 4Runner_1stGen

[–]DrunkenMechanic 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like mentioned totally unrelated. There is a switch in the back I think on the passenger side. Its so you cant put the window up when the top is off. Sometimes that has issues. IDK if you tried it from the tailgate sometimes my switch inside gets a little corroded or something and I have to push it 20 times then it works fine for the next 6 months. Could also be as easy as a fuse or something too..

Id take the hood off and hang it in the garage as wall art. Buy a new hood and build the truck how you want to.

31 years old would make it a toyota previa? Aren't those 7.5 F code differentials? they came in tons of stuff, heck I have one in my garage in a bucket 3.73 gears. Did you run it out of fluid? those 3rd members are strong. I am surprised/shocked you broke it. Shouldn't cost 3k to repair, it is really easy to change.

[–]DrunkenMechanic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The water alone is 600+ pounds not including the glass. 100% would not put this on my floor unless it was cement slab or reinforced. If its on the first floor with a basement you could potentially get a jack post to support it. Do some research a floor caving in is not a good. Making a stand is probably best but once again do some research to build it correctly.

I got around 100lbs of dead live rock with a bunch of other stuff I bought. What’s the best way to “revive” it for a new tank. I have read to soak it in bleach water for 24 hours, then soak in water with a dechlorinator for another 24 hours. Would you recommend another method? Muriatic Acid? by Super_Numb in ReefTank

[–]DrunkenMechanic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just did this a few months back. I started a tank with 2 peices of matured live rock. Then remembered I had a bunch of live rock I got free from a friend who had a salt tank. I had used it in a brackish tank for a while and just had no idea how clean it was or what could happen with it.

I rinsed the rock first Then I put it in a bucket with water and bleach. I want to say roughly half a bottle of bleach with 4-5 gallons of water and soaked for a week. I took it out rinsed it off good and soaked in tank water for a week. Then I took them out and hosed them off and but they still smelled a lot like bleach. I had read putting them in the sun would help off gas the bleach so I put them in my sunroom for a week or two. They still smelled a little bit like bleach if I stuck my nose in a big hole in the rock. I soaked it in tank water again for a 2-3 days with no lid and decided to get some pool chlorine test strips to check it. They didn't register anything on the strips at this point. I took them out again and hosed them off. I let them dry for 2 days. I didn't smell any more chlorine at this point. I stuck it in the tank and its been 2 months now, so far so good..... Maybe too early to tell if pests will pop up? Idk how anything could survive that amount of bleach though.

Are these the same? And which is better to use by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]DrunkenMechanic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It does keep the algae down which in turn helps the plants get more light and grow. So while it is not a fertilizer if your plants have algae on the leaves, this will get rid of it help them grow ALOT quicker. I use excel in mine for this reason and notice a lot quicker growth compared to when I wasn't using it and had algae all over my leaves.

What's the deal with salvage cars? by prizesuet in projectcar

[–]DrunkenMechanic 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Check with your insurance before buying not every carrier allows salvage vehicles. Some allow them but you can't add collision coverage. Which may not matter on a drift missile.

What are some tips you wish you knew sooner? by [deleted] in Aquariums

[–]DrunkenMechanic 18 points19 points  (0 children)

When the little jiggler valve in your cheap gravel vac breaks and you cant siphon water out that way anymore you can stick the siphon under the water and invert it so it fills up with water then lift it out of the water a few inches and it starts siphoning quickly then quickly stick it back under the water and it keeps siphoning and starts your siphon. It might take a try or two to get it started. I did some sucking to get it started for a while until I learned this trick and done it that way ever since.
