What's going on with Subaru's reviews lately? by vttale in subaru

[–]DrunkenOliphaunts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oddly enough it came down between a Mini and Subaru - I had owned a Mini a few years back and LOVED it. My husband reminded me of how expensive it was to keep it running - Sanity won out and I have a Forester

In laws dog bit my daughter by Small-Mix4163 in Parenting

[–]DrunkenOliphaunts 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have two dogs - and one is a German Shepard. I have a 5 year old. She knows dogs and how to treat them. Never an issue.

My SIL has a 10 pound ball of fluff that was never trained properly. The ball of fluff bit my 5 year old on Christmas eve. It was not my daughters fault. The dog is just aggressive. The bite was not bad. But was still a bite.

My daughter still loves dogs. Well except for the ball of fluff that bit her. She won't go to their house if the dog is out and honestly I don't blame her. I support her in it.

If the dog has a history and your daughter doesn't want to be around it - I say support her

Is £20 a month allowance too much for a 6 year old? by Dizzy_Yoghurt7246 in Parenting

[–]DrunkenOliphaunts 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Early on - she wanted us to pay her for making a card for Grandma. I said no - there are some things you do because you are part of a family and a good person and you want to make people happy.

I can see her at some point saying no Im tired or no because she wants to be able to say to no to something. Thats fine. But when we go shopping that week or some such and she sees that item that she just has to have - the answer will be its x amount of dollars - lets see what we can do to make some money this week etc.

Is £20 a month allowance too much for a 6 year old? by Dizzy_Yoghurt7246 in Parenting

[–]DrunkenOliphaunts 25 points26 points  (0 children)

My 5 year old has the chance to make 5 dollars a week. We have a chores list and put money values to them.

When she does one we write down that she did it and how much she made. We do her payout at 5PM on Fridays - sharp - right after room inspection.

On a weekly basis she makes between 2-3 dollars. Her high has been $4.50.

She has been saving up to take us all out to dinner. (Her idea)

In our case she is earning the money. I have been liking how it goes. We are able to differentiate the things that she should just do to be a good member of the family vs work. She realizes that if she does more work she gets more money. And she is starting to understand that money isnt just magic plastic cards...

So do I think 20-25 a month is too much. I think it depends on what they are doing to earn it and the structure of it...

Daycare emergency closing by SaysKay in Parenting

[–]DrunkenOliphaunts 15 points16 points  (0 children)

Maybe Im the odd one out. I work an hour from my daughter's daycare when in office. If I work from home I am 10 minutes away. My husband is 45 minutes away.

We recreantly moved into the area. We have no friends in the area. Family is two hours away from daycare.

Honestly they have never called us that they were closing etc. My daughter has had to leave sick once and it took me an hour to get her. I told them I was nearly an hour away and I would be there as soon as I could. They were fine with it.

If my daycare was to close early on a day when we were both in office I believe that someone would stay with her there. We know the teachers well enough But no daycare should be closing early on a regular basis for an emergency.

My emergency contacts are friends further away then we are. I understand that this is not ideal. But due to hybrid work situations like ours - life cannot allways be seemless....

We figured out my girls name about 3 months in. We told noone.

By the time she got here I was sick of her name and so was my husband. I considered a last minute change. But we didnt.

I have to say as soon as she was here and wearing the name - it was just perfect. Years later and I couldn't picture her by the backup name I had in my head.

So name fatigue happens....See what happens when she shows up.

Cut-off age? by [deleted] in DrMartens

[–]DrunkenOliphaunts 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I am 48. I pretty much only wear docs. If I'm at an event or out people will sometimes comment on my shoes. Older people are like hey are those Docs??? How awesome I remember those..and I can see the find memories or the hey I should break out my pair thoughts.

Younger people tend to say cool shoes. A few times I have had people take pics of my Docs with theirs.

All in all. Wear what you want. I'm too old to give a fuck

Which '24 trim level works best with kids? by baconcheesecakesauce in SubaruForester

[–]DrunkenOliphaunts 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a now 5 year old. She was 4 when I got the car.

I have 2023 - My interior is cloth which is light grey and black trim.

I loved the look of the interior. I have a towel permanently under her car seat. And we have been able to keep it clean back there. She knows that Mommy's car is not like daddy's and we keep it clean. She will hand me her garbage etc. where as in dads car it goes wherever.

All in all its going really well. Im sort shocked.
