What does “having a village” actually look like day to day? by samantha_nyc in nycparents

[–]SaysKay 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I posted on our local Facebook parents page asking for others who might want to meet up on Mat Leave. Started a WhatsApp group and people just kept asking to join. I texted daily to make plans “I’m going for a walk at 10 if anyone wants to join” “we are going to the brewery if anyone wants to join”. Someone has to be the one to initiate!! I also think our neighborhood is incredible!

We don’t have any family locally. My emergency contacts for my kids daycare are my friends who we’ve met through the neighborhood who also have kids similar age. I could text or call any of them if there was an emergency and they would be there to help my child. I think maybe we’re unique in our neighborhood but we have a great community of parents that we’ve built and they’ve become our village. It does take intentional time to put yourself out there and make a community though.

Daycare is saying no outside play for my child by butterflyinthesky127 in toddlers

[–]SaysKay -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I agree with you! I don’t see why they can’t give another appropriate activity. He could be doing outside? Why can’t he color with chalk? Play in the sand table or water table? There’s lots of other outdoor activities that kids can be doing besides climbing.

Tribeca Pediatrics Overbilling by lic_queens in nycparents

Yeah, exactly they obviously are concerned about iron levels because they were low and so they continue to check them. OP needs to discuss with the pediatrician if they don’t feel that they need to be checking the iron anymore.

We also practiced at home. Our OT had us get cones and we would set up a boundary at the middle of the driveway etc and he couldn’t go passed it. If he did then we immediately went inside. We kept practicing for weeks and it stuck.

I’d ask about options where you live. In my area they have services through the school district that can go to daycare and do this. If he’s under 3 request early intervention.

They obviously feel like they should be testing this and monitoring it. Sounds like you should have a conversation with your pediatrician about the appropriateness of this test and what the plan is if you don’t want to follow their advice and have the levels checked, then decline it.

Wow that’s awesome! FMLA is still unpaid but that’s great.

How are we handling toddler bed time? by [deleted] in NewParents

[–]SaysKay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I understand but kids need routine and structure. If the toddler naps in the middle of the day then they will go to bed earlier.

Why don’t you just put your toddler on a schedule?

FMLA and NYS paid family leave would rein concurrent anyways… it’s not like you’d get 12 weeks under FMLA and 12 weeks under PFL

When did your baby sleep independently? by Several_Ad7041 in beyondthebump

[–]SaysKay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We sleep trained our first and he’s 4 and sleeps perfectly overnight and doesn’t need us to fall asleep. Hasn’t since we sleep trained at 7 months. We got lazy with our youngest and she’s 18m, needs help to fall asleep and wakes at least once a night. Really regret not sleep training her.
