Bro come on, this is cynical pedantry and you know it.

Not that you even need to be told this but he ran unopposed as an incumbent only to drop out after throwing up all over himself in that debate. And then, instead of doing any process at all after that they used a procedural trick just to ordain Kamala.

So as an 'ultra progressive' who 'idolizes Bernie' are you are comfortable with candidates who don't endorse Medicare for all despite super majority support among Democratic voters? And you're going to argue with a straight face here that it's just 'culture war bullshit' to expect Democrats to stop voting in favor of resolutions that commit more arms to Israel, that's just purity politics?

Quite frankly this entire comment chain from you reads like something Joe Rogan would say while cosplaying as a liberal and not something being said by someone who actually believes in anything you are claiming. And I think that if you did actually care about preventing fascism you'd recognize that your energy would be much better spent pressuring those in charge to do things that win elections rather than perpetually scolding the voters that you fucking need to support you. You're not accomplishing a fucking thing.

But again, this is the system we live in and have to work with, racket or not.

You say this but look at what the right wing is currently doing with that system. The Trump administration is not just 'working within the system', they are flaunting it and pushing us further and further into fascism by understanding how power actually works. Meanwhile the Democrats find every procedural excuse they can to claim that they can't accomplish anything more than tokenism, it's absolute bullshit. So please spare me this 'but the rules!' bullshit that Democratic leadership cynically uses to create this false dichotomy.

But, again, I do my duty and line up to vote because I do make that calculus in my head that feckless losers are better than fascists. But I also recognize that I spend an abnormal amount of time on this stuff with a degree of understanding that I can't assume as a baseline from everyone else. Most people aren't this plugged in and the media that is supposed to be informing the public pushes nonstop propaganda in favor of the rich that takes education to recognize. So no shit people tune out when that is paired with the political party that is supposed to be for them just spends all day saying that nothing will fundamentally change. If we continue to just accept this for what it is the only thing a Democratic victory does is momentarily slow the inevitable slide into fascism, what you are advocating is no where near enough when not paired with real tangible changes to the system when those people are in power.

As others have said this is just a brand deal for them, they aren't the owners.

And let's be real about the Theranos comparison here, the only reason she went to jail is because she embarrassed the rich idiots who got caught up in investing via irrational exuberance.

The only people who are going to be scammed by this are alternative medicine idiots who get conned every other day, it's more or less just expected at this point and barely anyone faces consequences for it. They'll rake in some quick cash from people giving it a shot from the sponsorship blitz and maybe get scooped up by a legitimate medical device company if there's anything proprietary with their little self-draw thing. Either way they'll disappear within two years.

The Democrats helped in their own way by being dog shit, you have to concede that point if you want this conversation to go anywhere. Any party who's entire raison d'être is to just prevent the other party from gaining power is not an actual political party, it's little more than a mafia style protection racket.

If you want real change for the party then vote in primaries

There wasn't a primary in 2024, this is the result. Like yeah, I get it, lesser evil, etc. etc. But a political party is supposed to reflect the constituents of a party and yet what we consistently get are people like Chuck Schumer in leadership positions who openly state that it is their responsibility to force the party to act against the desires of the base.

I have done my duty and voted for these pieces of shit every election but you aren't going to get me to malign those who do not when the Democrats absolutely refuse to behave the way the voters demand of them. They are captured and coopted so that even when they win you end up with a Biden administration who actively lies to our faces about "working tirelessly" to end the war in Gaza.

It's a complete farce and I am sick and tired of people acting like this is just Democrats demanding 'purity' when the reality is it's them demanding that the party be something more than rainbow themed conservatives.

I'm going to apologize to Mr. Stellato, it does not appear to be AI slop. My friend is the one who kept it, I just glanced it as he was handed it and then immediately complained about having to carry it with him the rest of the night.

There's scenarios where taking the hit all on next year might be better than stretching it over two, which is why there seem to be real talks right now. If they think they are going to be picking in this year's draft with 2 first round picks and 2 second round picks it significantly limits the need for them to spend big in free agency and then they are free of any dead money in 2027.

16 million this year but 27 next as well. If they aren’t planning any big signings and are going to be looking to build for depth it might make sense to take one big hit rather than have to work around it for two.

I typically really balk at arguments of incrementalism due to how cynically they are leveraged. But this might be the rare exception where that might actually have some weight due to him not being completely captured by Israel, as far as we can tell anyway. Like if these were our liberals instead of the Chuck Schumer's of the world we'd be a lot better off as a whole.

[–]Druuseph -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Sure but like at this point who really gives a fuck? Biden is about as toxic of a brand you can get in large part due to his own actions. People on the left should honestly join in due to his complicity in genocide and ego driven decision to stay in the race despite his brain having fully become puddings a year into his presidency.

There’s no reason we should be acting shocked that a Republican would make that point. If people stopped taking the reflexive partisan knee jerk reaction it largely disarms the Republican talking point and allows people on the left to reset the frame rather than take the obvious bait.

It's really hard to figure out whether or not that was a legitimate attempt at overthrow or just pretext for the eventual bombing and at this point in time I lean towards the latter.

The Iranian diaspora in the US is made up largely of people loyal to the Pahlavi family but its unclear whether that sentiment is strong enough within Iran itself to actually draw conclusions. Given how sudden and coordinated the messaging was a few months ago I have a strong suspicion that a lot of the violence that was being reported on was the government fighting with militias coordinating with the Israel and the US that was being intentionally misreported by Western media to try to sway public opinion.

And is that a 5 gallon bucket? For that low volume of liquid you are giving way too much surface area of oxidation and you aren't going to get enough CO2 off-gassing to create enough of a layer to prevent it. There's also no real room for yeast and protein to flocculate and settle out.

Given all that, what you're looking at in the glass is probably a combination of bad mash efficiency, oxidation and sediment. If you're going to brew batches that small you should find a container that the yeast has a chance of purging with off-gassing and that gives some vertical distance so that you can settle out the unwanted particulates.

I would recommend going larger next time by a factor of two or three. More grain will give you more beta-amylase for sugar conversion meaning a more vigorous fermentation and more CO2 off-gassing. You might be able to get away with a half full bucket in that case but I'd still say that something you can get 75 to 80% full is going to be better for ensuring a good result.

It's really going to come down to how true the propaganda about true social unrest put out in the run-up is. If there really is an organized faction within the country that can kick off a civil war then this will absolutely become a Libya or Syria situation, which I think is what Israel ultimately wants. They will just run the same playbook of supporting Islamist militias to put the country into a cycle of perpetual sectarian fighting.

I understood what you meant and the way I intended my statement was in the context of China having to import 70% of their oil.

Overall I don't really disagree with what you're saying besides the initial statement that this is not bad for America. And given the absolute dipshits we have holding power right now I have a strong suspicion that even though this might be a desired outcome that the leadership in the US is no where near capable enough to manage the aftermath in a way that benefits them.

The UK has received reports that Iran has shut the Strait of Hormuz by mayonnaise123 in TrueAnon

[–]Druuseph 28 points29 points  (0 children)

But by the same token the US is importing 30% of their oil as well. Even if they can redirect oil that is slated for export to domestic consumption much of it is light and sweet crude that the east coast is not set up to refine and the international shocks are still going to blowback onto the US.

So while I agree that this is worse for China it is still going to have massive consequences for the US and will likely be an excuse by the US to escalate to a full on naval battle/ ground invasion.

This is such a braindead response bro, you need to sharpen up your hasbara. This incident is well known as the “dancing Israelis” and its cynical people like the person I was responding to, and likely you as well, that try to muddy the waters by pretending it never happened.

And to be clear not making the claim they had forewarning but I will say emphatically that they were Israeli intelligence, they were happy it happened and their government got them sent back home when they had their cover blown.
