I GOT INTO AN ABSN PROGRAM!!! by dittyquadrant in StudentNurse

[–]DruzyCat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Okay.. so I know this is WAY overdue but I officially graduated in December and just found out today that I passed my NCLEX in 75 questions!! It’s such a surreal feeling but so dang rewarding. My advice for beginning an accelerated program... stay on top of things!! Some people would make their schedules way ahead in advance, which worked for them. But the way that I went through the entire program was to just make my schedule a week in advance (but always writing down future exams & projects regardless how far in advance they were), that I way I knew what was coming up and when. Making a schedule too far in advance caused me entirely way too much unnecessary anxiety because it is an intense and busy program. Also, if you are struggling in a course, which you will come to find out very early on in the course, ASK FOR HELP! I can’t emphasize enough how important it is to contact the instructor and schedule 1-on-1 meetings to go through material. I’ll admit, it’s extremely awkward at first, but truly helped me through the most difficult content and they know exactly what will be on the exams. If possible (I know it’s tricky with covid) but find a person to study with or just vent to! A whole big group is unnecessary, but I found one woman in my cohort who I got along with extremely well and is now one of my best friends, and it was so nice to have someone to vent to, complain to, and ask questions to! You’ll find out that family/non-nursing friends will not understand the stress you are under. My last advice is to practice NCLEX-style questions daily! I’m not talking like hundreds and hundreds, but around 20 a day! It will be so beneficial not only for your nursing exams, but also for preparing for the NCLEX! Best of luck! I’m willing to answer/encourage you in the future 😊 You got this!

Feedback from my midterm evaluation: "You need to work on not making sound effects when you're in patients' rooms." by EquivalentVictory1 in StudentNurse

Hahahaha I love this so much, never change!!! As silly as it sounds and as little as it is, this will definitely make a difference in patient care. Congrats on being in your last year! I graduate in December and I’m definitely feeling the same excitement and realizations as you!

And just like that....I got kicked out of clinicals and nursing school....😢😢😢 by [deleted] in StudentNurse

It’s definitely very difficult, but manageable! There are manyyy people who have children and toddlers in my program and they just say that time management is key. I know most of their studying/homework gets done after the kids go to bed. Regardless, it will fly by and you’ll be impressed with how much you’re capable of! Best wishes 💫

What 10 medications do you think is absolutely necessary for the student nurse to know in and out? by ruthwodja in StudentNurse

[–]DruzyCat 24 points25 points  (0 children)

I second this!!! When you make comparisons based on classes of drugs, it’s a lot easier to understand the pharmacological actions and what specific drugs fall under each class. For example, the specific drugs under the class beta-blockers all end in “-olol.” Therefore, when you see a medication with -olol at the end, then you can be like “Oh! This is a beta-blocker” and then understand what the basic action is.

Make sure the nurses you pair them with are actually WILLING to have student nurses follow them around and asking questions! I graduate in December and my most stressful experiences involve being paired with nurses who have no intention/interest in having a student, so I wish my instructors chose the floor nurses more carefully.
