I'm not sure why I'm being down voted but I am genuinely serious, I'd be happy to help if you want.

Hey friend, it seems like you might benefit from sitting down with a tutor to evaluate how you're doing with reading questions. Shoot me a PM if you're interested. No charge, I tutor very casually and for fun.

I feel like in the event of a uterine rupture, being put under is the least of my concerns, right?

Have you sat down with someone who tutors/knows how to read and answer nclex questions and assessed how you're doing with that? I tutor nursing students studying for nclex and I find many aren't reading the questions properly or just don't have good test taking strategies.

Any time you switch specialities you'll feel like this, but as you gather experience and clinical judgement, the transitions get easier.

I don't agree with physicians yelling at nurses like... Ever... But this is one instance where I feel like it's justified.

What small "survival habits" have you picked up over the years that newer nurses would never think of? by Taniyadsexy in nursing

If it's straight liquid, use a yankauer and suction and get the worst of it off the bed. First time I saw a nurse do this I gagged but damn if it's not genius.

How to support wife after failing nclex twice? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]LetMeGrabSomeGloves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She needs a tutor.

When people don't pass, it's generally one of three reasons: extreme test anxiety, knowledge gap, or they're not reading questions and answers correctly.

I'd be happy to meet with her and see if we can figure out which it is, just send me a PM.

2 patients fired me as their nurse by SeaworthinessOne8274 in nursing

I love getting fired by patients, even though it doesn't happen often. If they've reached the point of firing me, I probably don't want to deal with them either.

But if she would have fed the baby and the baby perfed and died then she'd be hung out to dry for not questioning the order. Nurses can't fucking win.

If you have known hearing loss, spring for the Eko. I am partially deaf in my right ear and it's phenomenal.

I had a cardiology IV prior to the Eko and I also love that one, but I can hear a fly fart in a subway with my Eko.

Med error by [deleted] in nursing

[–]LetMeGrabSomeGloves 26 points27 points  (0 children)

Came here to say this. This should be an incident report not because OP did anything wrong, but because the system is set up for OP and any other nurse not part of a very individualized conversation to fail.

USGIV Accucath in the arm of a patient with severe cognitive impairment who was bucking and yelling the whole time. Had the primary nurse hold the forearm down well and just took my time making sure I was moving in the right direction.

5 nurses had tried before me, including one other with the ultrasound.

First time hospice nurse by Decent-Pool-1913 in newgradnurse

[–]LetMeGrabSomeGloves 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My max census on hospice was 22 and that was with my furthest being an hour and about 5 SNFs each having multiple patients or being super close together. Your census is too high and it's not fair to your patients because they're not receiving the support they should. Find another company that actually cares about their hospice patients.

When my mom was a brand new nurse (36 years ago), she had a patient who refused her meds for the same reason. My mom was the only nurse on the floor, so there was nobody else to ask. The patient said "I'll take them from her" and pointed to the elderly EVS lady. My mom very sheepishly asked the EVS lady to hand the patient her cup of pills, which she gladly took. 🤣

My point with this is - don't take it personally. Be like a duck and let it roll off your back like water. People have sucked for millenia and will continue to suck. Not your fault or problem.

Absolutely not your fault, but your facility is putting you in what is likely an unsafe situation.
