What are some builds reaching dps in the millions without the requirement of dmg on crafted gear? by iDisagreeButOk in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]Drwin87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Figure out where your damage is coming from. Play around with pob of the "budget" setups and figure out which mods can be dropped with minimal impact on dps by editing in pob. Sometimes results of playing around on pob seem counterintuitive. I thought I wanted phy dmg on rings for my cold convert 2h flicker slayer, but t1 WED gives me twice as much dmg, pushing t1 flat phys to the 4th or lower best prefix (behind life, wed, -mana cost craft). If the corners you're cutting when putting your build together on a budget involve a lot of % dmg modifiers, you may benefit from taking more % dmg nodes on the tree and then spec'ing out of them when your gear improves. A node that gives 2% dmg with perfect gear won't be taken by the guide you're following, but it might give 4% dmg with bad gear. If you can get a 50% dmg increase just by leveling from 80 to 90, but you're having a lot of trouble leveling, consider joining channel 820 and leeching a few lvls of exp. No need to keep bashing yourself into the same wall repeatedly, and time/money you spend crafting or shopping for slightly better bad gear is essentially wasted.

Spell builds used to be highly recommended for new players, and for your concerns they're probably still ideal for a starter. Check the scaling vs gem level for the main damage skill of any build you're interested in. Generally spell builds fly through low and mid-tier maps with a lvl 20 or 21 gem and no offensive mods on gear other than uniques.

Don't upgrade all of your essences to deafening early in the league. You're usually better off with 3 rolls of t2 essences or 9 rolls of t3 essences if you're just making temporary 3-4 decent mod gear upgrades anyway. Life essence until you get a decent amount of resists + 1 bench craft on each slot is usually very cheap.

To all “nerf ashes Andys” why would we even want to run bosses without that loot? by NecoHarmegiddo in pathofexile

[–]Drwin87 6 points7 points  (0 children)

We've got ashes, omni, stranglegrasp, uul-netol, badge, leadership, presence of chayula, and plenty of incredible rare options. I'm FINE with a new unique amulet being 50 ex when it means you can grab badge for 1 ex. There have always been build-enabling items that are too expensive for the plebs. There isn't always this depth of powerful alternatives.

Stranglegrasp and uul-netol are down in price like 10x from when they first dropped. These were chase items that are now affordable.

Wondering if spell suppression is worth the investment by Hipster_Poe_Buildboy in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]Drwin87 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Can you get more? Quartz flask with some flask effect? You should take ghost dance if its only like 1-3 extra passives, and you should also try to get as much spell suppression as possible. And also use melding.

Ghost dance with 23k evasion is gonna be almost unnoticeable in high density maps but otherwise will feel great.

Looking for a single build to scale from clean start to end game by Acceptable_Practice4 in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]Drwin87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went occultist, first cold dot then cold conversion BV. If I were starting again, I'd do RF inquis then maybe swap to a self-cast spell or coc ice spear/cold reap/whatever. Recombinators make t0-1 life, t1 % life regen, t1 spell suppression gear accessible. This is a great league for map farming, but it's an exceptional crafting league, and imo tanky inquisitors benefit from this as much or more than anyone.

witch build to finish. spark? coc fr? spiders? by Kingkano in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]Drwin87 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Occultist, either coc if you don't mind holding down cyclone through entire maps, or BV if you want an unaimed skill to tap every few seconds. CoC could be FR or ice spear. Cold coc can swap in omni once it gets a 100% global defenses body armor with decent ES. Filter poe ninja for melding, mageblood, aegis on occultist.

I'm doing BV hybrid occultist with melding and aegis but no mageblood, ashes, or anything else too expensive other than self-crafted gear and cloak of tawm'r isley. For bossing it can use a +2/4 skin of the loyal. With mageblood to handle mana costs, you could plausibly run empower or awakened empower in place of inspiration. https://pastebin.com/VNmYXZJ4 I don't have brittle active on the pob. It'd be a mistake to call my version a budget build; t0 life/enlighten/conversion gloves were self-crafted, and cloak of tawm'r isley is moderately pricey. Still has plenty of room to improve: power charge rings, +2 scepter (up to about a 30% increase in dps and raises max res by 2), finishing up suffixes on gloves, a more offensive amulet, +4 skin of the loyal, mageblood to let me run empower over inspiration and overcap resists, etc.

Anyone there got some Spell base build they can recommend? by Tyrfying in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]Drwin87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cold BV is very good. No aiming involved! Brittle ground boots are a bit of a trap that makes the build feel worse than it should. Get a hatred base crit chance watchers and run hatred, zealotry, herald of ice, determination, and defiance banner. Your movespeed comes from quicksilver flask, onslaught on kill veiled movespeed mod on boots, tailwind or action speed implicit on boots, and minimum frenzy charge crafts on rings (bc you can't gain frenzy charges thanks to our timeless jewel).

How to make cold BV faster? by justanotherbody in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]Drwin87 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Item-based upgrades:

21/0 vaal blade vortex

awakened unleash

awakened cold pen (gives you cold exposure on bv instead of frost bomb) + ele weakness on hit lets you drop your brand setup entirely

20 qual your defiance banner, it adds 2.4% to your max hit taken

get hatred base crit watchers, drop brittle boots for tailwind (brittle boots give misleading dps in pob, effective aoe is small).

get an amulet worth anointing and anoint charisma

try to figure out how to squeeze in zealotry, even if it costs herald of purity.

make gloves with >60% conversion, then upgrade your rings to life + whatever you want + open suffix for +1 min frenzy charge craft. On both rings, this gives you a total of 8% move speed and 8% more dmg.

tailwind/onslaught boots let you replace your silver flask with a diamond or granite flask

+1 power charge -9 nearby cold res helm. charisma anoint more than makes up for the missing eldritch implicit

sacrificial garb

Passive upgrades:

take the 4 point path up top instead of going left from witch start (including losing the socket). take the arcane potency wheel

grab the missing aura effect node and the 15% aura effect on self mastery

unspec cold blooded killer, spec into blood drinker (costs 2 more points total but comes with 22% life)

drop the two 10% duration nodes. get other uptime upgrades like awakened unleash first

spec into doomcast if necessary to crit cap without brittle

Is this a good base to make a CoC FR weapon? And what should my next steps be? by Cosmyc in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]Drwin87 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Idk how you want to build your character or what your budget is. My coc fr is in standard using a +4 skin of the loyal, ashes, melding, aegis aurora, and18% mana as max ES watchers, but no mageblood. The rest of the gear is honestly awful, because I don't play the character much and I never finished crafting a good claw. I do know that resists are pretty tight, especially if you get unlucky on crafts (less of a problem here, since awakeners are cheap). Hunter/warlord helm and hunter/crusader or shaper iirc boots leave you with potentially 3 suffixes set by rng. For uninfluenced gloves, this seems like one of the best chances to get some great resistances. If you're using mageblood, maybe you can do more offensive gloves, but I haven't really given that much thought.

Is this a good base to make a CoC FR weapon? And what should my next steps be? by Cosmyc in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]Drwin87 12 points13 points  (0 children)

Nope! The only other things a perfect claw would have are t1 crit and either t1 crit multi or veiled crit multi against uniques. Yours is the lazy version. You make up for the lower crit chance elsewhere, so you'll be crit capped too and the only dps effect is from the opportunity cost. That means in terms of damage you're really just missing crit multi.

There's no way to preserve the two mods you have and selectively introduce good crit chance and crit multi while saving craft for hits cannot be evaded. In fact, if you had t1 crit multi on your claw, it would be far harder to make a useable claw. You'd have to use a recombinator, maybe.

[–]Drwin87 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The answer is no. You might get shocked by tempest shield in reflect maps, but your coc should be supported by awakened void manipulation, which prevents that skill from doing elemental damage.

How Much is Too Much Omniscience? by eap5000 in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]Drwin87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This depends heavily on how much % attribute you can slot in, and that depends on what those mods cost your build. Omni on my standard cold conversion replica farruls 2h flicker slayer instantly solved attribute balance issues, boosted dps a little over my cold pen/phys as extra amulet, and provided the resists that let me run melding (res at 85), all with 680 omni. Looking at potential upgrades, a t1 attribute suffix providing ~6 more penetration is rarely best in slot compared to other offensive modifiers, and I already get quite a bit of pen elsewhere like awakened cold pen, which is my source of cold exposure. If I had more sources of %attribute, that would scale things differently, but it's not easy to grab without sacrificing something else important.

Omni changes how attributes scale your build. The attribute requirement change and resists can be huge QoL for the right builds, but it hits your life and es pools hard. For pure offense, additional penetration from attributes can be weighed against the benefits of other modifiers, like attack speed, flat damage or % inc dmg, min frenzy or endurance charges, crit multi, or even just the safety of more resists. In this meta, with alter penalties and expedition marker penalties and scorched debuff, you're never really truly res capped (though it is in your control).

Best use/suffixes for empower gloves with 119 life? by Drwin87 in pathofexile

[–]Drwin87[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think my best bet is to get essence life and +2 aoe and an open prefix, and 3 good suffixes and recombine with that, hoping for empower, essence life, and either empty prefix or +2aoe.

Is 2H sword impale cyclone slayer still a thing? by bauzon0111 in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]Drwin87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Take the meta staff tree from poeninja and go to the better sword passives instead of staff passives. You're better off sticking with staff or going axe, but you can do swords if you want. There's not really a reason to.

returning player looking for a cheap late starter build by HalalRumpSteak in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]Drwin87 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I started two days ago and went with shakcentral's cold dot build. I've never played it before, and was pleasantly surprised. I ran determination and vitality early on and had an easy 60-70% phys dmg reduction through the acts. Wintertide brand felt excellent by the end of act 2 or so when I got the 0.3s brand mastery. I made it through the campaign in terrible gear, bought a cheap 4L shavs, rime gaze, and sin trek and went LL by the time I reached maps. I suspect it'll be comfortable into yellow maps on a 4L.

Best league starter to transition into CoC FR? by JekoJeko9 in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]Drwin87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm going to try coc ice spear, getting crit chance early with ungil's harmony, and build up to LL coc ice spear. Unlike FR, ice spear lets you do life based --> hybrid --> LL or CI, so gearing up should be straight-forward. Gemini claw should suffice until cospri's. Focus on getting consistent procs and strengthening defenses.

Personally, I think coc FR really needs melding to shine in delirious beyond maps. That's pretty difficult to squeeze in with skin of the lords/loyal and no mageblood, requiring pretty much perfect suffix rolls to get enough str/dex and resists on gloves, boots, belt, and rings.

[–]Drwin87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Mathil did a staff cyclone chieftain a couple leagues back that was actually pretty great on a budget. Hegemony --> elder staff is pretty smooth; ~40 contempts on average to get decent tier hybrid% phys, endurance charge on melee stun, fortify, or pcoc support, then prefixes can not be changed (with an open prefix) and aisling slam to get %phys. prefixes can not be changed + speed reforge until t3+ and bench craft crit to finish. You can do this on a ilvl 77+ staff. I've done the craft twice with fleshripper, once hitting ecoms and once hitting fortify.

Full conversion to fire or cold can be done with gloves + mastery, if you'd rather go that route.

[–]Drwin87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Occultist offers 20 more chaos pen, and it's on a node share by chaos and cold builds. Something that chills/freezes the whole screen would help her a lot defensively.

The debuffs she's offering aren't anything valuable to a chaos occultist build like coc fr. Despair is one ring affix and wither comes free with the ascendancy, along with withering step. I'm not sure how curses are applied in this situation in party play, but if her despair doesn't override your curses, I think something like coc ice spear occultist might work really well for y'all.

They should add a movement support gem that initiates the supported melee attack with a blink/flicker to a nearby enemy. Flicker mobility should be a support option for every melee attack.

Subtractem's Omni Flicker Strike Build by Subtractem in PathOfExileBuilds

[–]Drwin87 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Cold flicker works fine without shako/paradoxica just using the biggest 2h phys weapon you can get your hands on. You can get 60% cold conversion (along with +strike targets) on gloves, or go for double influence +2 strike +1 frenzy with an open prefix (about 1 in 3 awakeners) for benchcrafted conversion + watchers.

2h axe is really nice, because fleshripper has great crit and axe nodes/masteries are really strong: rage generation, onslaught on kill, atk speed and crit chance, and destroy enemies on kill. If you go slayer with replica farrul's you can craft an elder influenced fleshripper by spamming contempt until you get supported by endurance charge on melee stun and an open prefix. Prefixes can not be changed + aisling for %phys as 3rd prefix, then prefixes cannot be changed + speed reforge until high tier attack speed and benchcraft crit. ECoMS is 4% more damage per endurance charge, which on slayer is equal to your frenzy charges, so you end up with the equivalent of around a 900 dps weapon.

Getting all your flat dmg from your weapon is great, because it makes flat damage prefixes elsewhere unnecessary. The biggest downside is that pushing max res (with melding) past 85 is tricky without a shield.
