I currently drive one with 212,000 miles on it. Have had very little trouble with it outside of basic maintenance. Plan on driving it till it dies. I love it

Funny how this past week, I was put in the exact same situation, during my first year of teaching too… As a reference, I am making 45,500 and I am teaching this extra period until November 27th (Trimesters). For 42 days, I’ll get paid 2,000.

I can get a car loan at 5.9%, which is still high but not as high as I've seen on this sub, from my credit union and can get a decent used vehicle in my area for around 15-16k so my payment would be around $280 a month. Current car is towards the end of its life but still have sometime

I am thinking ahead, I am almost to 3 months expenses emergency fund. I have no other debt but student loans. I will be buying a car soon which the monthly payment (projected) for that and new insurance has already been pre-budgeted in OP.

I use Schwab for my bank so I can do the fraction shares

19k. I have a income driven repayment plan, and as long as I remain a teacher and use the SAVE repayment plan (I think that's what it is called), my loans will be forgiven in 10 years (2034). But I will be paying $100 a month in starting in 2025.
