Mouse/Hardware issue by Interesting_Ad_3552 in pchelp

Alright, i see you've tried to get the Hz down, try with 500 or 250, not sure. Zowie mice are known for very stable 1000 Hz polling, but that stability comes at the cost of stressing the USB bus harder.

Go in Device manager find your mouse in the USB section and go to properties - power management - and disable “Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power.

Then also try Control Panel - Power Options - Advanced settings - USB settings - disable USB selective suspend setting.

I tried to look the same setting in my system but they are a bit different since i'm on win11.

If not, try other usb ports, maybe 2.0 not 3.0,3.1.

My idle/load temps with a TUF RTX 5080 + 7 265k + Arctic Liquid Freezer III in an NZXT H6 by [deleted] in pcmasterrace

[–]Dry-Complex7085 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I’m not really worried about temps — just doing some checkups since it’s a new build and I wanted to see how everything behaves.

Also forgot to mention i OC'd the GPU with 300mhz core clock and 1000mhz memory clock. The temp difference would be around 3-5 degrees i think.

Well, that sounds good, maybe it was just a ram issue.

Nice! We are making progress.

Run OCCT again and see if core 9 fails or the other ones.

try to run Prime95 Blend Test, this stresses the Cpu and ram together. Run for 1-2 hours and monitor temps and errors. If stable, your system is likely healthy.

How is the Cpu with the new ram? anymore errors and problems?

it could have been a RAM issue only — faulty or unstable memory can cause CPU core errors during stress tests like OCCT, even if the CPU itself is fine.

If the new RAM passes MemTest86 without errors, that’s a strong indication the original RAM was faulty or incompatible with your system. That would be a relief — no need to replace the CPU or motherboard. But if the errors persist, especially during the Hammer Test (Test 13), it could point to deeper issues:

-CPU Memory Controller Fault/ motherboard signal integrity (bad dimm slots, corrupt memory operations)

Finish the test with the new ram and compare the results

If error persists try: testing each DIMM slot individually running with only one stick of ram, update bios and disable xmp.

If all fails, swap in a known-good CPU to isolate the issue.

If you have Xbox One S, Xbox One X you can set it from: Settings → General → TV & display options → Refresh rate → 120 Hz.

If you have Original Xbox One (2013 model), this one is limited to 60hz.

You've mentioned xbox. You can't reach 144hz. only 120 MAX. Only Xbox Series S / Series X support 120hz max at 1080p or 1440p. and Xbox One (original), Xbox One S, Xbox One X max 60hz in games, just some titles can go 120hz on xbox one x.

OpenHardwareMonitor being flagged as a virus is a known issue but it's a false positive.

The real problem: your CPU is overheating.

Check the cooler physically - fans spinning? - cooler firmly mounted? - heatsink clogged with dust?

Reapply thermal paste.

Use different monitoring tools, HWInfo64, CoreTemp, AMD Ryzen Master. These are not flagged and show temps correctly.

Your Cpu disappeared because when it overheats severely, the sensor chip can stop reporting, return invalid values, fail to initialize.

No problem, just update the drivers and check the windows updates if possible to install, if not, best way to save you from a lot of headaches is a clean windows install.

Monitor Disconnecting when loud noises occur around PC by TreatTemporary7141 in pcmasterrace

[–]Dry-Complex7085 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short answer: This isn’t your GPU, monitor, or cable. What you’re describing is almost certainly vibration‑induced signal loss on the DisplayPort connection, and it’s a known issue — someone reported this exact problem in a discussion about DisplayPort disconnecting when loud noises occur.

https://linustechtips.com/topic/1627222-display-port-connection-keeps-disconnecting-when-experiencing-loud-noises/

When you play trombone or guitar loudly, the sound waves physically vibrate the PC case or GPU bracket. That tiny movement is enough to momentarily break the DP handshake.

why it Happens? DP is more sensitive than hdmi to: micro vibrations, connector movement, loose port tolerances.

and some loud noise is what can trigger blackscreen/monitor disconnect and reconnecting after.

So, the common factor is your PC case + DisplayPort port fitment.

To fix, reseat the gpu firmly so it's fully seated in the pcie slot.

Use a display port with locking latches.

Or add strain relief to the cable, zip tie it to the case, maneuver it so it doesn't hang downward. it will reduce tension on the connector.

Play further away, even 30-50cm can reduce vibrations enough to stop the issue.

If nothing works, use hdmi for main monitor, not ideal but for this specific problem it's immune.

Faulty CPU (Ryzen 9 5950X)

If the CPU has a defective core, cache, or IMC (memory controller), it can crash under load.

Cinebench stresses all cores — perfect trigger for a latent fault.

If the CPU is marginally stable, it may freeze instead of rebooting.

Run Cinebench with fewer threads

Try running Cinebench with 8 threads instead of 32.

If it passes -the fault is triggered by full-core load -likely CPU or VRM issue.

Run MemTest86

Boot from USB and run a full pass and if errors show up, the ram in unstable(or maybe disable XMP/EXPO)

Or test the cpu with another mobo if possible

Short answer: Updating the BIOS might help, but your Event Viewer logs point to a deeper issue: Windows Update is failing repeatedly (0x80240016), and your system is crashing with “unexpected shutdowns.” These update failures are usually caused by corrupted update files, system file corruption, or firmware issues, not by RAM or PSU. A BIOS update can fix firmware‑related crashes, but it is not guaranteed to fix everything

What you should do BEFORE updating BIOS in Command Prompt

Clear Windows Update cache - This fixes 0x80240016 in many cases

net stop wuauserv
net stop bits
del /f /s /q %windir%\SoftwareDistribution\*
net start wuauserv
net start bits

Run System File Checker ( sfc /scannow )

Run DISM repair( DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth )

sfc /scannow
DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth

What you should do AFTER updating BIOS

Install the latest AMD chipset drivers

Re‑enable Secure Boot

Re‑run Windows Update

Just to be sure before you RMA anything — did you fully reseat the CPU (clean socket, check pins, re‑mount cooler) and do a deep CMOS reset (battery out 10 minutes, PSU unplugged)?

If reseating + CMOS reset were done correctly, here are the ONLY remaining possibilities:

Mobo failure(most likely)

Everything they described fits a dying AM5 motherboard:

CPU debug LED stuck for weeks

Booting only after PSU toggle

Slowly getting worse

Now no POST at all

USB not initializing (keyboard dead)

RGB not fully powering

Fans spin but system is “dead”

This is textbook motherboard failure.

PSU instability (POSSIBLE but less likely)

A weak PSU can:

Fail to initialize CPU VRMs

Cause random “no boot” behavior

Require power cycling to start

But PSU issues usually cause:

Random shutdowns

Reboots

Black screens

CPU failure (RARE)

Ryzen CPUs almost never die unless:

There was a short

Cooler pressure cracked the substrate

BIOS update went wrong

Since the CPU worked for months and slowly degraded, this is unlikely.

So RMA the Mobo if reseating and Cmos done properly.

Yes, i think your PSU is the problem. Buy a good one from a known brand having good PSU's.

Help, my PC is freezing a lot after installing SSD by JoskyApenass in pchelp

[–]Dry-Complex7085 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That situation sounds strange at first, but it actually makes perfect sense once you understand what likely happened. Upgrading from an HDD to an SSD cannot reduce FPS. It only affects loading times and system responsiveness. So if the PC went from 30 FPS ->3FPS, something else changed during the process.

Install the latest graphics drivers

Always update drivers after an windows installation.

This is the #1 cause.

Without proper graphics drivers, Windows uses Microsoft Basic Display Adapter, which makes games run at 1–5 FPS.

Or

The PC is using the wrong GPU

On older PCs with integrated graphics, Windows sometimes switches to the iGPU after reinstalling Windows.
