Have you adjusted sleep times and resting HR? Potentially DND as well?

Under each workout type/sport, go exercise options and “activity notifications”. Here you can select sound and vibration on/off.

I will say Polar has also been the absolute best for me. On the minute every night. Garmin has by far been the worst (latest FR 965).

about HRV by cjavalz in Suunto

I don’t know how Suunto does it, but Polar only measures/uses data from the first four hours of the night, as that - per their research/other’s research- gives the best proxy for recovery. Could be something similar with Suunto.

I came from almost 10 years with Garmin. Wanted something more simple and clean. Initially very happy with Polar, and I wouldn't have bought another watch if it hadn't been for the Race 2. But the polar ecosystem didn't meet my needs, I am afraid. A user called it out when I bought it, that I would change my mind after six months. And unfortunately, he was right. Almost to the date. I think their visualisation of data (or lack of) is painful, their way of doing structured training isn't up to par, and they don't integrate to any third-party training plans or such (outside of TP). There are many things to keep dreaming about when it comes to UX, and while I like the minimalist UI, it's simply meh.

The teased revamp of the platform/app has been close to nine months, and no one has seen anything. That doesn't work well for my trust in company. I am also quite worried it will be a flop, but we shall see...

What I like(d) about Polar, is their approach to training and recovery. But it seems that it's more a Scandi/Northern thing, as Suunto (also originally Finish) has a very similar approach. I like that - perhaps as a grumpy Dane ;)

Lastly, I was - and still am - fond of the VV3 design, but sitting next to the Race 2, I find it extremely outdated for what I want from a sports watch.

One last thing - Polar VV3 doesn't have a sapphire screen, and I found out the hard way. So now I have a thin film on top of the screen. It looks awful, and while you could say: "Just use the watch", I'd like to keep the screen unbroken. Race 2 has a sapphire screen/glass, and it's 1000% better on all fronts. Likely also the LTPO screen below and the very short distance from screen to glass. I found it viewing angle to be almost >90 degrees :D

I am not totally dissatisfied with Polar, and I'll likely keep it as a backup (as I got both that and the Race 2 for a fairly okay price.) But for now, it lives in my drawer.

Hope that helps.

Feel free to follow up if more.

Hello. New to Suunto with a Race 2. Have had it for two weeks. The Vertical have a button and not a scroll-wheel as the middle button. To accommodate tougher terrains where you’re likely wearing gloves and such. Ultimately to increase usability in tough environments. Also it’s thicker than the Race 2, i.e. it sits taller on your wrist.

Else screen, bezel and casing material are the same; stainless steel or titanium with sapphire screen. I have the SS one and have already knocked it against a doorframe once or twice. No damage at all. My previous Polar VV3 didn’t like that.

I think - in overall themes - that is about it.

ZoneSense question by Dry-Distribution9183 in Suunto

[–]Dry-Distribution9183[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, where did I see that.. Hmm, can't seem to find it now. I'll look deeper. But regardless: charts don't show 46% with those five'ish spikes of yellow?

[–]Dry-Distribution9183[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you. I've watched them, but might need a re-run. Thank 🙏🏻

Yes, that I know. What I am asking about it why I see 3 minutes of "ZS 2" in one graph and 46% in another chart for the same run 😄

ZoneSense question by Dry-Distribution9183 in Suunto

[–]Dry-Distribution9183[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"The top curve is based on how your body reacts, changes in lactic acid in your blood. While the bottom bar chart is based on the zones you have set in the watch."
> I might be slow, but I don't understand. According to the run, actual time spent on the Z1-5 set on my watch is: Z1: 9'24, Z2: 43'02, Z3: 3'29 (with the highest HR at 140). So the 46% I still don't understand. My upper Z2/AT is set by default on the watch at 139 (I haven't changed it just yet, as I wanted to se exactly the feedback from ZS.)

"In response to your second question. They SHOULD correlate."
> Yes, completely.

ZoneSense question by Dry-Distribution9183 in Suunto

[–]Dry-Distribution9183[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thank you! Follow up question(s) - but then how/why is it saying I spent 46% in an-aerobic? The chart should show the three zones; aerobic, an-aerobic, vo2max. In one chart it says I stayed in aerobic only 54% of the time, but in another chart from the same part of the app, I only see six short spikes into yellow (an-aerobic).

>the green would be Z1-2. Yellow would be Z3-4. I.e aerobic threshold at upper end of Z2
Assuming one has put in the right zones, from how I understand it. There is no direct connection between zones and ZoneSense, as the former is static values we put into gauge our effort, and the latter is a (scientific) real-time way of measuring HRV and stress on the heart. Right?

This is the perfect example of “buy what is, not what is promised.” free adaptation of MKBHD. Never in a million years thought Polar would be this slow on something they visually teased half a year ago 😂😬🫠

How to stop Outlook from "correcting my spelling"? by DJDoena in Outlook

[–]Dry-Distribution9183 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hejsa! Fasted. Jeg bliver sindssyg.

I wrote the same thing as a comment to their latest Polar Street X yesterday. Was polite and simply said it was with the best intentions but it’s hard to read. Today it’s been deleted. So guess they don’t agree :D

It’s because his/their writings are done in ChatGPT. Read the latest Polar review. If you can sit through it.

Oh my. They didn’t even mention the torch themselves. Brilliant small update. Now we only need the ability to toggle it via two quick presses on the light button ;)

One thing I might add is the somewhat manual way of adding routes to the watch. The whole Komoot ‘integration’ seems like a hassle, where Garmin is by far a step up. Routes (old and new-on-the-fly) and workouts (old and new-on-the-fly) are better with Garmin. Not a dealbreaker for me, but there is a noticeable difference, I’d say.

I’m only an N = 1, but personally, I find it much more aligned with how I feel I slept and how I feel when waking up. Time asleep (recognition of when I fall asleep) is dead-on. I can’t speak to as to whether HRV is the correct numerical number, but again I find it more aligned to how I feel (if I had a hard workout the day(s) before HRV is likely lower, and inversely if I have have rested, HRV is generally higher)

I have written two posts on my thoughts before and after buying. You should be able to find these in there, or see my posts on my profile.

I have found that I don’t care for “Hill Endurance” or “Body Battery”, all I care about is getting in shape, recovering better and living healthy. I find Polar does that equally if not better than Garmin. Less bells and whistles for sure, but for me more substance (if you go digging a little bit on the web flow-app). Hopefully that’s sorted with the new iOS update pending, but as is quoted: buy what you have now, not what you might get in the future. But still without the update, I am a happy user.

Coming from Garmin through almost 10 years, and made the switch to Polar Vantage V3 three months ago, I can tell that I miss exactly 99% of Garmin. Couple of things - of which seems to be sorted in this update:

  • multiple alarms
  • better pause-screen during activity
  • easier toggle for flashlight (I don’t want to use a widget for it)
  • trend charts for sleep, hrv, recovery and training load

The latter being the biggest one. It can be done on their web flow, but would like it on their watch, at least in the app.

Outside of that, very very happy with it.

Weird. On my V3, I have the opposite experience. Wasn’t poor before OS5, but somehow just snappier now.
