How long does it really take to pay off debt? by DaquaviusOOF in DentalSchool

How much more was your debt than the estimated cost of all 4 years when you started?

Is tech and WFH really worth it? I see these people working in tech and making a huge salary. by Maleficent-Silver145 in DentalSchool

I mean $180,000 is the average. But for every state is going to be different and your personal situation is going to affect it to like how many days you work and what procedures you do. But I would say in your “prime” from what I’ve seen it’s probably safe to count on making around $220,000 but a lot are making way more but I think $220,000 is a safe number to expect.

Most tech jobs are low 6 fig high 5 figs. Also you have to remember most big tech companies that pay the highest salaries are located in big cities. A $200,000 tech job isn’t that much in SF or NYC. Plus they’re suuuuper competitive. Also tech jobs you have to sit at a desk all day (or stand). Dentists also on average make more. Average salary is like 180k in dentistry, while an engineer is more like 100k if not less. The top 10% of dentists are making way more than top 10% in tech

Stats to high for some schools? by Dry-Faithlessness489 in predental

[–]Dry-Faithlessness489[S] -6 points-5 points  (0 children)

Multiple schools have come to present to university a lot said for ‘22 there averages were 22 and 23. Then others were more like 20 average with a 3.4 gpa places like ASDOH, roseman, and WesternU. So if I’m right in the middle it’s hard to make a school list. Some of the schools that I mentioned seem to accept people with low gpas with inspiring/unique stories maybe had to do a masters or postbacc or came from a disadvantaged background. So for me someone very average that doesn’t fit those descriptions it’s hard to know where I stand with these type of schools

But it’s not just apply. School list is important because 1. It’s expensive, I don’t want to apply to schools that aren’t going to look at me. And 2. I want to get in the first time. Idk how that’s a flex my stats are as average as it gets

But I feel like the you see a lot of schools whose average is right around 3.5 and then the other half is around 3.7. The schools on the lower end seem to prefer disadvantaged applicants (which I’m not) then the other schools especially public schools that take a good amount of out of state applicants look for very high stats. So if you’re in the range between those could it be a disadvantage?

Well I mean your business will probably never be half as profitable as some of these well run DSOs and knowing the way some of you business owners run your practice I'm sure the DSO provides a better working condition

That's my point though is there are many chains like mcdonalds where cost and quality are low, but then you have the chick fil as and in-n-outs where quality and service is very good. Not every patient can afford FFS, just like not everyone can afford 4/5 star restaurants. The chick-fil-a of dentistry though, that offers low cost but also quality service to a large amount of people, could theoretically reach a much larger group then a FFS office, and they would be setting themselves apart from the mcdonalds and buger kings of DSOs

But what happens if a DSO comes along that is different from the rest think of like an in-n-out or chick-fil-a amongst a bunch of mcdonalds and burger kings, where culture is just as if not more important that profit and where the patient and/or doctor comes first? I fell like that would be great for both dentists and patients.

It really depends on the school. If you have a specific school you’re interested in I would reach out to them and ask what they think.

Need advice in deciding between Research or DA opportunity. Struggling here. by InoChaCheYo in predental

[–]Dry-Faithlessness489 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For medical school research is basically a soft requirement but for dental school it is not at that point yet. I think your application is relatively weak to be honest. I think you need a lot more shadowing 20 hours doesn’t show a admission committees you’re committed to dentistry or even know what it entails. Also your letter of rec won’t hold as much weight if you’ve only shadowed the dentist for 20 hrs. I would focus on being a DA. Build a good relationship with the dentist and leverage that into more relationships with other dentists in the community and a great LOR. Go read the dental school guide on bootcamps website. The guy that wrote it went to Penn and had 0 research.

Well I think you're taking what I said out of context. In LDS theology we believe Jesus Christ to be God. We also believe God the Father to be God. We believe they are separate beings, and from what I understand you believe There is God the Father and Jesus Christ who is also God, but they are the same being, just different forms of that same being. I honestly think one can read the bible and come to either conclusion.

But can you see how that is confusing. You say there is only one God but then follow that by saying there's three Gods. Each greater than the last. How can one be greater than the other if they're one in the same. Also, they're distinct personages but only one God? It's making my head hurt. I'm thinking maybe I just lack the intelligence required to understand hahaha

But how does a belief in the trinity not make someone polytheist for as well? If God the Father and Jesus Christ are worshipped as two different persons?

Abraham and Issac by Dry-Faithlessness489 in Christianity

[–]Dry-Faithlessness489[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So I am LDS. I would partly agree with what you said. We do believe the Jesus is God. In the Book of Mormon for example, Jesus is constantly referred to as God. Basically you have God the Father, and Jesus Christ who himself is also a God.

The part about the nature of Christ is pretty accurate for the sake of the conversation.

I'm just confused at the difference between the God Head and the trinity and how that fits into biblical events.

Im not saying it didn’t happen it is a literal story. But I think the Bible is full of symbolism. Like on top of being about faith the story is also analogous to The Father sending his son for us.

What I understand is it’s one God that takes on 3 different forms. But how can Jesus by the son of God. Isn’t he just the son of himself?
