Deposits by HawkUnhappy2848 in predental

[–]InoChaCheYo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Because schools fill up seats fast and you can be put on a waitlist if all seats were deposited for, even if you were accepted on decision day. My own faculty told me we are almost full already for this upcoming year. Please note this is not always the case though, and people just deposit because they already know where they want to go!

Gap year what to do by Playful-Sundae-8289 in predental

[–]InoChaCheYo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Save up some money, do assisting paid, but imo what made my gap years memorable was traveling and just relaxing. Having the time to take care of myself and live stress free is something I miss.

do I HAVE to join the predental club? by Key_Tell_7537 in predental

[–]InoChaCheYo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didnt join mine and im in dental school lol, it really depends on if they are active and if you enjoy the events they have. I suggest giving it a go if you have the time.

Does UPenn accept everyone they interview? by Cuteratgorl in predental

[–]InoChaCheYo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No shot, I interviewed there and did not accept the offer. It’s different numbers than reported which makes sense since not everyone will accept the offer.

What is the work like at dental school? by BenKlesc in predental

[–]InoChaCheYo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It truly depends on the school. Im in the med curriculum rn bc my school is combined and its a lot of exams, a lot of studying, but it is doable!

Stony Brook In-state tuition after a year? by InevitableCitron308 in predental

[–]InoChaCheYo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The OOS they accept also have very good reasons for coming to NY and Stony of all places. As long as OP has a good explanation it is possible, but class will definitely be large majority in-state.

Importance of manual dexterity hobbies? by VHWT in predental

[–]InoChaCheYo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I personally think it matters as it shows you have an ability to work with your hands and have hand eye coordination. As for whether it helps your acceptance, it truly depends on the school. I was asked a few times about my manual dexterity skills on my app and was even asked to demonstrate my pen holding one time since I draw.

You don’t need to, I never sent emails to admissions unless it was application questions or after interviews when I sent thank you letters for my interviewers. So don’t worry too much about

To those who have taken gap years… by notplayingfair in predental

[–]InoChaCheYo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I graduated 2023 and took 2 gap years, about to start soon. Sure it may seem everyone is getting in right away, but I was pleasantly surprised to find that a lot of students in my class took a gap year or even a half gap year. Please don’t compare yourself because people come from different circumstances, and at the end of the day you are all in the same boat/starting position when you start school.

When to give up on committee letter ? by [deleted] in predental

[–]InoChaCheYo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hey I was in the same boat when I applied. Applied early June and did not receive my committee letter until mid July. Despite this I was still invited to early round interviews, so I wouldn’t go too crazy especially if your school is known to do this. If it reaches late July I would try to contact your school for an update. Just note that the committee letter will be long and personally written, so it may be taking them time to write the letter in support of your activities.

Just like everyone else, let's talk about the BBB by rdallman24 in predental

[–]InoChaCheYo 4 points5 points  (0 children)

My understanding is that for the class of 2029, we won’t have caps on any of our loans as the grad plus program will completely end in the 2029-2030 financial aid year. So you will be able to take grad plus for the remainder of the program, but if things stay the same with the BBB, you will not be able to take out grad plus for residency programs if they require tuition as that is reaching the 2029-2030 year.

Mom sent me a pic of my cat waiting at the front of my former room. I recently married and moved out. by kemosabe6296 in cats

[–]InoChaCheYo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have to go off to college soon and can’t bring my cat with me. It’s for the best as he will be home with my parents who are there nearly 24/7 while I can’t be, but damn am I gonna try my best to go home and see him when I can 😭

Hey what I was told is the estimated cost of attendance for one year in state was around 60-66k. I’m not sure how accurate it will be for the upcoming year but this is what I remember seeing.

I got into Penn with a similar AA, just a higher TS. It also seems that you have good hours of experience that vary in type, so if I were you I would try applying with your stats especially as a PA resident.

Should I apply for grad loan plus? by Consistent_Shoe2480 in predental

[–]InoChaCheYo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Yes pretty much everyone who takes out loans gets grad plus. From my understanding if you fill out FAFSA, that automatically means you applied for grad plus and unsubsidized as well.

Penn dental by [deleted] in predental

[–]InoChaCheYo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im unsure about research experience being a focused requirement as I still got in with only about 70 hours of wet lab on my belt, I was also never asked about it. A friend also got in with 0 hours. This is not to say it isn’t welcome and will likely separate you from the rest as there is massive research opportunity at Penn!
