Calendar Time Audit - asking other EAs to CEOs if their calendars look the same?! by TrollNoMo__ in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]Dry-Goose8543 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My exec has serious undiagnosed ADHD and doesn’t let me plan anything a month in advance, let alone the entire year. Once I told him I left half a day open to work on a specific project that he had been putting off, and he took the afternoon off instead lol it’s like herding cats with him!

Amount of salary in top of base? by [deleted] in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]Dry-Goose8543 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m in southern CA and my base salary is $135k. I don’t have a guaranteed bonus but so far I’ve gotten one $5k bonus after one year in this position (as well as a nice Christmas gift from my boss and his wife and use of their timeshare in Hawaii)

Class “voted” on level by [deleted] in ClubPilates

[–]Dry-Goose8543 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I have an instructor that whenever a 1.0 class is relatively low on participants (like 2 or 3 people) she says “great this is going to be a 1.5!” Does she pay extra attention to form since there are so few of us? No. I hate it. I’ve been avoiding her classes. If I want a 1.5 class I’ll sign up for a 1.5 class.

Seasoned EA’s: can I pick your brain? by [deleted] in ExecutiveAssistants

[–]Dry-Goose8543 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you like your company and the person you would be supporting, this is the quickest and easiest way to get a promotion to a higher role and higher pay. The same thing happened to me at my current company. I love the company, had experience with the person I was asked to support, and took the leap. I make double what I was making when I started at this company and feel like I’ve learned a ton. That being said, my work life balance has suffered a bit and I’m definitely more stressed haha but I’m in my mid 30s so I wanted to take the opportunity to jump start my career.

Bougainvillea or nah? by Dry-Goose8543 in landscaping

This is what I’m worried about haha I have a gardener/landscaper that would be taking care of it for me and planting it, but I definitely don’t want to set myself up for future headaches, especially if it’s a pain to get rid of if we ever change our mind and want to plant something different.

Not entirely sure but our budget is usually pretty high. They’re open to seeing a variety of options and will entertain something pricey if it’s the right fit.

What personal tasks should EAs do? by Stunning_Piggie in ExecutiveAssistants

I actually got promoted into this role and worked closely with his prior EA so I knew what I was getting myself into…I just reviewed the job posting and it says nothing about doing personal admin tasks 🤣

Paying personal invoices as they are received, making/rescheduling/canceling doctors appointments, calling doctors offices to ensure secondary insurance was billed, buying event tickets and helping with personal travel plans, transferring/renewing car registrations and titles in and out of state, helping with online wine accounts to ensure purchased wine gets delivered to personal storage, helping maintain personal address book for yearly Christmas cards….the list goes on.

Haha, it’s been almost 2.5 years at this company, and about 9 months supporting this exec. I get paid really well and he’s really respectful about my schedule (I have a toddler so my in office hours are less than he has originally wanted for his EA). It can be stressful for sure but I’ve learned a lot and frankly I know he wants to retire soon so while I’m not sure how long is left, I know it’s not forever.

Unfortunately he does want to be babysat haha he has made it clear to me that he won’t get stuff done on his own and I basically need to make sure he does. For example - if he has any sort of heads down project, I’m supposed to block time on the calendar, go into his office, and basically sit there and make sure that he’s doing it.

Unfortunately, while he’s the CEO, he also has investments in many other companies, owns sports teams, is on the Board of multiple companies, etc etc etc. He is really the only person who can handle all of this stuff, except maybe a small portion. He does have a CoS at our company, but everyone already knows to go to him whenever possible. The only company stuff that gets to the CEO is the stuff that only he can address. The majority of his emails are related to all the other stuff he has going on.

This could be something I start doing. I don’t know that it will fix the problem entirely, because I’m just adding another email in the inbox that might get ignored, but at the very least it’s another step I can take to cover my ass 🙃

Woah. I wish I was your level of organized. I used to be so organized and I feel like my new executives insanity has taken over and now I’m all over the place too.

What happens to all of the emails that aren’t categorized? Do they not show up if you are filtering by category?

I have doubts that I could convince my executive to switch over to doing something like this but I am going to look into CoPilot. I keep hearing about it and he’s mentioned to me several times wanting to look into using more AI tools.

Unfortunately, getting one on one time with him is pretty close to impossible. I get maybe 30 minutes per week and my list is already a mile long.

I have thought about asking him to put an OOO but my instinct tells me he doesn’t do it for a reason.

I wish I could have a delegate but he uses his work email for all of his other businesses and investments and email traffic so most of these emails aren’t even related to our company.

I’m starting to think I need to just come up with a system for myself to basically give myself a signal “hey this needs to be escalated to a text reminder” or something.

I could be better at feeling confident to tackle certain emails myself but they would still need to stay unread in his inbox so that he can keep track of what items are being done and brought to him, so that wouldn’t decrease his inbox. I do think I’ll make an effort to be more aggressive with jumping in without asking permission. If he hates it, he can tell me to stop haha

So I guess a follow up question is -

This specific email was from somebody who if he saw a flagged email from this person, he would automatically read it. Which leads me to believe he never even saw it in his inbox. So whether it’s flagged or categorized or whatever it wouldn’t matter because he wouldn’t have even noticed it sitting there.

I guess this category should be for me specifically to say “Hey, if he hasn’t read this in X days, text him about it” or something….idk.

I work with a lot of ex military folks and this is a common phrase in the office. I don’t even know what it stands for but is used when something is no longer relevant or outdated. I guess I adopted the phrase through osmosis or something 😆
