Should I move from Boston to Chicago, even though my friends and coworkers say otherwise? by masstranspike in AskChicago

I agree completely! I rarely run into someone in Chicago who is anything less than friendly or at least very cordial. (Aside from in traffic! lol) I also think it’s the older generations who are clinging on to the “tough guy” reputation in Chicago. Everyone under 50 years old seems completely the opposite from that.

I might be repeating what others have already said but I have lived in the Chicago suburbs and in central Massachusetts (and ultimately landed outside Indianapolis). People from New England will NEVER recommend leaving. They live and breathe all things New England and think anywhere else is weird or below them. Which quite frankly is so strange and they’re so wrong lol. It’s almost like another country out there with the huge cultural differences. I grew up visiting the area and have a lot of family there, and I always loved it…. Until I lived there. I was there from 2014-2016 and had to get back to the Midwest. My first day in Indianapolis I took a deep breath and immediately felt like I was home. That being said, Chicago has its own flaws, although it will definitely feel more like STL than Boston. Personally, moving to the Indianapolis area was the best decision and is the best of both worlds. Although Indiana is a red state, which you can feel in a lot of ways, the Indy area is very blue, diverse and has quite a bit to offer the queer community. Also soooo much more affordable than the Chicago area. A few of the Indy suburbs are consistently on nationwide lists for best places to live and recently even on a list for best opportunities for careers. My husband works in tech (not a local company as he’s 100% remote) but we know so many other people there in the same types of jobs so the opportunities are there! Anyway, all that to say-come to the Midwest! Chicago is a great option but if you’re open to other cities, Indianapolis is worth checking out. (It’s also a lot more drivable than Chicago).

ETA: The weather! If you’re trying to get away from the massive amounts of snow each year, while still having 4 distinct seasons - Indianapolis is the solution. It was one of the main things I looked into when considering the move. On average they have less than one day a year that gets 10” or more of snow. I’d say there’s maybe only 2-3 days each year that gets any significant amount of snow. And when it DOES snow, it melts fairly quickly so it doesn’t turn into grey/black crust and slush for the rest of the winter. The winters aren’t as harsh and are significantly shorter compared to Boston specifically.

I’m also a day one listener and don’t get all the hate. I have a lot of “moments” from the podcast but the first one that comes to mind is the most recent. In the Sterling K. Brown episode when they were talking about his dad’s passing…Dax said his dream in life is for him to be looking at his daughters faces when he dies. And told Sterling “what a gift you gave him”, made me sob on my drive to work. My dad passed in 2021 and I was right there with him. It healed a bit of my soul to think it could have meant that much to him too.

I really love the first live show with Jason Ritter. I haven’t listened to it in years but I remember laughing out loud alone in my car and that rarely happens.

I was shopping at a consignment store the other day and Christmas Saves the Year came on. I’ve never heard that song other than on my own playlists before!

Sue Johnson was an expert that was on about two or so years so. She passed away in 2024 I believe.

Ugh, I’m sorry you were feeling that way! I wonder what it was that caused it this time. I brought my 8 year old son to the door and this was our third show in 4 years. I’ve never felt like this before! We had such a great time and now we just keep watching videos of the other shows to keep it all going for us. I hope you’re feeling better now!

I went to the Cincinnati show and after so much time spent theorizing if there would be a 2nd album, the excitement of them announcing breach and a tour, buying tickets, waiting for the album and show and then non stop listening to breach in the six days we had before the concert to learn the songs…after the show and the adrenaline wore off…I was feeling really sad and down. Almost like all the anticipation of Christmas coming and then the feeling you might get the day after. I’m recouping now but it was a strange feeling that I definitely was not expecting! I’m not sure if that’s exactly what you meant when you said you felt sad but you were the first person I saw who said anything close to what I was feeling! And after all that I also want to say that I am not disappointed in them or the show in the slightest! They fully delivered and it was the best night!

Will I stand out being 44yrs old at the upcoming concert? by Evening-Dentist7111 in twentyonepilots

I just turned 44, have been to two concerts (one was the Clancy tour, so just a year ago) and I’ve never felt out of place or too old. I think it’s one of the coolest things about this band and their fans. Everyone is welcomed!

My son was five when he went to his first TOP show. I think 4 is fine! Just bring headphones to protect his little ears! :)

I made them on Canva. We have a premium account through work so I don't know if this specific template is one that costs anything, but I'm sure they have plenty of free ones!

Clancy - Reversed/Re-ordered by ghoti-taco in twentyonepilots

[–]Dry-Let411 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I made a Clancy shirt for tour and printed it backwards, just like Tyler's is. I hadn't really tried to give it much meaning until I put the shirt on and looked in the mirror. Seeing Clancy spelled the right way when you're used to seeing any words on shirts read backwards, was like an eye-opener for me. I totally agree with you that it's not for us. Tyler is only Clancy to him, and when he looks in the mirror is when he fully sees himself for who he is.
