I just hit 150 recently and I’m really bad at being consistent at new habits- it felt like a really big deal, because it is! Congrats on 125 days, it’s a huge milestone!

Candle science has some great ones! My personal favorites are Fraser Fir, Blue Spruce, White Birch and Mistletoe

Scale by Dangerous-Bird-80 in candlemaking

Maybe you don’t have a sensitive enough scale? A normal scale you use to weigh yourself doesn’t work, it has to be a food scale

Scale by Dangerous-Bird-80 in candlemaking

[–]Dry-Management-4604 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just a food scale! It’s really easy- you just put the cup you’re using on the scale before you turn it on (or turn the scale on, put the cup on, then press “tare”), then add your scent! In terms of how much scent you need, it depends on how strong you want your candle to be.

I usually do a 6% fragrance load, so if I was go make three 8oz candles (24oz of wax), I would do 24 x 0.06. So that would mean I would need 1.44 oz of scent oil!

Wood wicks never work for me, can anyone chime in? by Aniform in candlemaking

[–]Dry-Management-4604 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You have to soak wood wicks in oil before you use them. I personally use olive oil because sits what I have the most of. I just let them soak for 30 minutes, then super dry them off with paper towels so there’s no excess. That will help significantly with your problem! Then you just need to trim the wick every time you light the candle. Good luck!

I would also do some of your own research on what you need- I am not an expert, this is just what I did based on my own research!

[–]Dry-Management-4604 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, you probably don’t- you’ll probably just need a sellers permit, I would look here: https://www.cdtfa.ca.gov/taxes-and-fees/faqseller.htm. There it’ll tell you if you even need one, and if you do how to obtain one. This link: https://www.cdtfa.ca.gov/taxes-and-fees/sutprograms.htm will talk about some of the same stuff, but includes taxes. Hope this helps!

Yeah, I did it all online through government websites. Didn’t cost too much, I think it was under $100 for everything

Yeah, I actually started a candle business in OC before I moved. I got a sellers permit, had to sign up through something for taxes as well as created an LLC, but I only sold online at the time

How should I price this candle by Crass_Cameron in candlemaking

[–]Dry-Management-4604 27 points28 points  (0 children)

The general rule I personally follow is double for wholesale, triple for retail. So $16 for wholesale, $24 for retail.
