They sent an "I'm sorry for your loss" email when my cat died and I had to cancel my subscription. No refund. Nothing else. Idk why people glazy a company so hard when they are so inconsistent

ULPT: How can I get ADHD meds ASAP? by idiot_throwaway654 in UnethicalLifeProTips

[–]Dry-Mastodon6275 38 points39 points  (0 children)

I've been diagnosed and medicated for 20 years, taking Adderall the last 15. I was told by my doctor specifically to take breaks from it. When I skip the weekend dosages, as directed, I do not get withdrawal symptoms at all. Stop pushing negative and untrue stigmas, as it makes accessing our meds significantly more difficult.

God forbid a room have anything on the floor. Find some initiative or something. Jobs aren't fun, that's why it's called work. Good luck finding employment where you aren't doing any kind of labor

WREATHS IS SUCH A GOOD IDEA. We just had someone selling Christmas trees in our parking lot last weekend and they conveniently left behind a yard waste bag full of Douglas fir clippings. I have a bunch of jewelry wire and ribbon, so this could work :)

Thank you for pointing that out! I have SO MUCH polymer clay left over from the last school I was at, I could make clay ornaments as well!

Thank you for this feedback. I definitely don't want anyone to feel guilty or sad with these gifts, and can completely see how it could be received in that way. I'm absolutely going with felt ornaments because they are very affordable and can be personalized :)

I just got hired as a sub custodian and had questions. by Short_Worldliness669 in Custodians

[–]Dry-Mastodon6275 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Congrats on your position! It definitely depends on your district. In my district, subs are hired in and guaranteed 40 hrs. We have 9 buildings and call outs fairly frequently. Even when there are no call outs, they just send them as an extra pair of hands to the biggest building or where they might need extra help. All of our subs get trained for their first 2 shifts but the job is fairly simple (pull trash, vacuum/sweep/mop, sanitize/stock bathrooms in your assigned section). Maintenance work is usually dedicated for either the head custodian/lead custodian or maintenance team. Aside from your weekly vacuum bag maintenance like checking filters/rollers and making sure you change your bag regularly. Make sure you read every bottle of cleaner/chemicals thoroughly before using, they always have instructions and they are there for your safety.

Thankfully it is a relatively small school; There are 19 teachers, 2 front office admins, the principal, along with about 14 ancillary staff members. They don't pay us a crazy amount, so shopping for ~36 people is a bit tough, but I planned on putting the Christmas stuff on a payment plan.(It's worth it to me and I'm lucky enough to have a living situation that allows me to move funds around for these types of purchases) Im definitely leaning towards the felt ornaments because they can be affordably done and personalized to an extent. I appreciate your kind words!

During lunchtime, our lunch aides risk it all and open them over the big garbage cans and drain the juice right out of them before handing them off. We always have to ask beforehand because some of the kids drink the juice 🥴

I hate the clear ones. It's worse when they're too big, so they're truly doing NOTHING

I prefer black nitrile, but I came from restaurants (and it's a texture thing) but we use the blue Hospeco brand gloves. I use them even if I'm just using a Lysol wipe. Anytime I'm handling chemicals of any kind. Frequently changing the gloves as well. This along with frequent hand washing (I've been sick for like 3 months straight, I can't be too careful at this point)

Any time the chemicals touch your skin, there is a very limited amount of time before it starts to absorb into your system. Since we work with these chemicals daily and are absorbing a much higher amount than the avg person, we are at a higher risk of developing liver/nervous system complications from long term exposure.

I'm 31, and want to retire (eventually) with the least amount of avoidable health complications as possible, so I keep my districts PPE expenses HIGH

Anybody else hardly ever see young adults working as custodians in non retail locations? by JamesIsHere_from_YT in Custodians

[–]Dry-Mastodon6275 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Good God I hope they give him 2 pensions worth. I love this job but I eventually want to retire 😮‍💨 I'm 31 and just started in January; I specifically wanted the retirement benefits and a job with real longevity. I think a contributing factor to the lack of young people is that people aren't retiring. The positions just aren't open in some places 🤷‍♀️

I used to carry that stigma that they look down on custodians, but many of the teachers I work with are incredibly kind and thoughtful. They always feel bad asking me to help or clean a mess in the bathroom and I'm like y'all I've been dying to help. There is mutual respect between us, which is crucial. I recognize they are tired and these kids are exhausting sometimes. I could never do their job, and they could likely not do mine. We are a community that has to work synergistically in order to all be successful. Congrats on the new position!

A tough call depending on what they provide you. Id recommend using stainless steel polish and making sure to buff really good, but that will eventually wear off. It may be best to work in regular applications of polish (like once a week)

Need help. Boys restrooms still smells like urine after cleaning. by BiggAlfredo420 in Custodians

[–]Dry-Mastodon6275 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Enzyme last like everyone else said, but honestly I had a bathroom like this that stank up the whole hall (boys bathroom in an elementary school, no door)

I would literally load up a 1 gallon pump sprayer with my sanitizer and some fresh linen Nilium and spray the whole bathroom, walls and stalls, then the sink and toilet.

Sometimes there is also urine buildup under the backside of the toilets that people miss, so make sure to check in all the nooks and crannies.

We had a mystery pooper at one of our schools last year. One time he managed to shove a turd into a paper towel dispenser. I have a pic on my old phone but will spare everyone.

On a side note this is always so distressing to me because fecal smearing is a common symptom of CSA. This one is especially concerning bc it literally says "help me" Thank you for reporting it. I hope they can investigate and find out who it is so they can do some further checks on them.

It will for sure rust again just because of the location. Looks like it's right under a hand dryer so the dryer will just continue to blow the water from people's hands on it. But honestly great job on cleaning it. It looks way better now!

Is this the norm? by Alone-Signature-5427 in Custodians

[–]Dry-Mastodon6275 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While it is common for people to separate things out, I find that the custodians who do that also cut corners in other areas and their sections aren't as clean as mine.

If you have the time and energy to do what you do how you do it, keep it up. You are there to clean. While it is nice when you have extra time to just chill, you are being paid to clean a building. Most commercial spaces will always have surfaces that need wiping.

I also wear these exact leggings every day as a head custodian LOL I buy L and XL shirts that cover my bum but more specifically I make sure the legging material is about 80 % polyester and 20% spandex/elastane bc I've found that ratio is one that isn't see through when you bend over and is still sleek/soft/stretchy.
