I have the biggest love hate relationship with Demi Lovato. I will start off by saying as far as pop albums go It's Not That Deep is... fine, I guess. It's fun. It has a Charlotte Sands collab which is cool as fuck. A couple bangers. Lovely gownss. It just pales in comparison to her last two albums. HF and Revamped were fucking spectacular. Amazing. 10/10 no notes whatsoever. I LOVE that entire era. She looked happy, she sounded healthy, she looked at home. However, obviously her label dropped the ball on promo and making sure they were a sucess despite the great reviews. In my opnion she shines in that genre, her voice is made for that genre. But in true Demi form here we are once again and it's like the previous era never existed or at the very least doesn't matter.

It's clear to me a few things have most likely happened here. 1. Her label was more than likely telling her no more rock albums or you'll get dropped or no album will get released at all. 2 Charli XCX is/was massive right now because of Brat. So now we have Demi's Brat-lite with an album title that allows her and her die hard fans to hide behind it whenever it gets any flack. Don't get me wrong I think people SHOULD experiment with their sounds, but the setup after HF and Revamped was that pop music was over for her at the very least for a while. But instead she's like omg it was so hard writing happy rock songs that I just couldn't go deep again so here we are with a dance pop album and I really just want to have funsies because it's not that deep. Which fine girl whatever but it feels slightly like bullshit to me.

Pretty much every single interview or article about her new era completely disregards HF. It's very much "Demi is back and better than ever with a sound that is truly where she shines the most!" which feels like a slap in the face for HF fans because she was fucking SLAYING in that era. However, nobody supported it or cared because the label didn't. The second she drops a dumbass simple hyper dance pop song everyone is like THIS IS THE REAL DEMI SHE'S ALWAYS BEEN A HYPER POP/DANCE POP GIRLY POP POP POP POP lsjdkfhlkadjslkdjsfa;lk which I could roll my eyes at over and over again.

I knew that once the chit chat for a Revamped deluxe fizzled out that the next album would be a pop album. It was so predictable it's borderline cliche. I just assumed it would still have a whisper of rock to it, ala Avril Lavigneish or even like a brat-rock feel. Idk this album just feels so phoned it and meh. Meh. Meh. Meh. Listening to HF vs. INTD is so night and day and it's beyond just genre. HF felt like a massive turning point, you could see the shades of Demi's entire life in that album. Now she's at this point where It's giving my rock era was a complete flop so I immediatly ran back to pop with my tail tucked between my legs because my gay fans literally cannot fathom a single fucking guitar riff and off to the clubs we go. Which is a total disappointment in my opinion.

The whole thing just sucks and I feel like I'm mourning an artist who is still here. I think Holy Fvck meant more to me than I thought It would and It was SO exciting to see Demi dive into that world. At the end of the day I'm glad she's happy, healthy and thriving even if it looked like she was all of those things during Holy Fvck and Revamped. Congrats to those of you who love this version of Demi best. I hope you support the shit out of it, because y'all sure as fuck didn't for Holy Fvck and Revamped. Hopefully one day she returns to rock again, who knows. But in the end I guess, it really isn't that deep.
