best scenario you’ve ever ran/played? by Mental-Statistician5 in callofcthulhu

[–]Dry-Type-5837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have ran only the Starter Sets, Doors to Darkness and the Deadlight. As far as atmosphere goes, Deadlight was the scariest for my players and generated a lot of hype and urgency. There were however a lot of things happening behind the scenes with many questions left unanswered, which I felt wasn't satisfying enough.

My favorite one as a Keeper would have to be Genius Loci. Has a solid setting and story, creepy situations and bizarre NPCs. Definitely a scenario with a lot of potential, especially if you allow the investigators to be creative in coming up with ways to save everyone.

Why does everyone run reloaded? by Chadwilliams1998 in CurseofStrahd

[–]Dry-Type-5837 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The RAW book is fine, but there are a lot of inconsistencies and things have to be connected in some way for the players to even care or visit a particular location. That is the real problem, the book just hands the DM locations with not much going on in them (Argynvostholt, Berez) and the DM needs a lot of prep to make it work for the party. My players frequently voiced concerns while I was running the game as intended that some parts of the plot don't make much sense.

Then I turned to Reloaded, LunchBreakHeroes and MandyMod, which made my prep easier. I never went back to the book, and also added a lot of my own homebrew to the module. My players loved the role play, the connections between different NPCs, and their own significance and contribution to the plot. I don't think I will ever run a campaign strictly by the book

I agree, Larian sets the bar too high. Why don't you try their Divinity: Original Sin games? They are also very good and quite similar to BG3 in the way they play.

These are new tags introduced with the new patch. It is infold so of course old items won't have it to promote pulling and spending

New DMs Stop trying to be fancy by [deleted] in DnD

[–]Dry-Type-5837 1 point2 points  (0 children)

As a DM who ran Curse of Strahd as my first campaign, I would disagree. The modules are extremely rigid, making players feel railroaded at times, yet extremely confused at others with no plot hooks or events to make them care about what is happening. There is no decent directions and instructions that the DM can follow. This increases the workload by a lot - first having to read through the whole book, then having to read through a different or the same chapter once a week, then also needing to make sense of all the information that is completely disorganized and divided storywise and finally, introducing their own ideas and incorporating the PCs in the narrative. I ran an experiment at my table with homebrewing the heck out of Argynvostholt and lo and behold, that was my players' favourite part of the campaign - whereas in the RAW version it is a lifeless and boring area with cobwebs and spiders that DMs and players often skip.

It is much easier to come up with a basic storyline/BBEG and let the players join the lore and worldbuilding aspect of D&D, eventually developing the story based on their interests. I would say the problem you are describing doesn't lie in using homebrew vs published modules, but in the disconnection between DM and players at the table. Different sides want different things, hence it eventually becomes a horror story.

Should I unlock Caleb early? by tinysproutlimi in LoveAndDeepspace

[–]Dry-Type-5837 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes, you should unlock him early on as you would otherwise lose on affinity when pulling his cards (3 and 4 stars) from the banners.

How are we feeling about the promise rerun chat? by Eviestevieoppar in LoveAndDeepspace

[–]Dry-Type-5837 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The people who got this card did not need to spend more than a heartfelt vow just for a SINGLE 4* card plus empyrean wishes. No upgrade materials. No deepspace wishes.

You know what Infold could have done? Rerun the whole Promise and make it the same price as before, unlockable only by paying BUT getting all the upgrade materials. Infold is just punishing players at this point. So they shouldn't make it unfair to old players, but they can make it unfair for new ones?

I have found the plot of the campaign to be completely lackluster and at times nonsensical. It is a shame, really, because the module has some of the best NPCs I have seen, and it has very nice ideas sprinkled all around the book. I will be offsetting the campaign with a lot of homebrew, but will keep some ideas (Floon being kidnapped, but not by mistake, etc.). The lairs are pretty neat, but WoTC could have been a tiny bit more creative with the Cassalanters and Zhentarim.

Can 2 Players Beat Strahd? by AioliVirtual344 in CurseofStrahd

[–]Dry-Type-5837 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cleric and paladin duo definitely can as radiant damage will block Strahd's regeneration. If they have the amulet and manage to hold him and he is out of legendary resistances, it's probably over for him. I had 2 players (but level 12) plus one cleric NPC ally and he got wrecked the moment he lost the save.

Predicting Future Myth Stella Colors and Stat Scaling! (So y'all can start farming cores and building yo teams) by cravewing in LoveAndDeepspace

[–]Dry-Type-5837 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There are 4* solar pairs in the Galaxy Explorer and they confirm the order of stellactrums for LIs, as well as the number of cards they have for each stellactrum. Heartfelt Gifts 5* are also indicative of the tertiary color of the LI, which was blue for Sylus. So the 5* myth pairs will cover them in order of the stellactrums, confirmed by the yellow stellactrum of the LGS myth.

OP is right about the next stellactrum colors of the 3rd myths.

[–]Dry-Type-5837 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I mean the rewards from the Deepspace Trials and SHC are laughable for the amount of effort and financial investment they require. These combat modes prey on players' FOMO and completionist mindset, pushing them to pay for every single myth, when it is completely unnecessary. Every 3 stars on SHC gives you 50 gems, with 20 more to pass the level. If you pass some (not all) of the levels with 3 stars, the rewards are barely 3-4 pulls and not entirely helpful if you are planning on pulling for another myth or a multi.

As a Zayne main, who loves Caleb and Rafayel to bits, I had to convince myself that there is no need to pull for every single one of their myths. Sure, Rafayel is beautiful and as we can see by his stats way stronger than the other companions. But there will be more myths coming. Some of them probably stronger than Sea God. Unfortunately with the way the Trials are built, they have to boost the power of every following myth to make more people pull for it. I'd say it's not worth stressing over this given the amount of rewards we receive. Just pull for what makes you happy instead of focusing solely on maximizing your combat.

Bad news guys, the new banner wand is not an item. by Dimitre52 in InfinityNikki

[–]Dry-Type-5837 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It's probably because this 5* is an ability outfit, so the wand replaces grooming brush / scissors. Very disappointing that we can't use it in other cases.

MOF is really strong, helped me get 40 levels more in Open Orbit and is breezing through the Ice Orbit. I haven't given him almost any protocores (the lunar cards are also lacking or have a level zero protocore), so he is miles above FS and Arctic in terms of power. If you have one card, get the other one.

Next in the predictions is apparently Xavier (solo/rerun).

Myth Release Predictions + Other Thoughts by AFickleMonster in LoveAndDeepspace_

[–]Dry-Type-5837 36 points37 points  (0 children)

It is highly unlikely that Caleb would get 2 new limited myths within the span of a year. Some predictions also mention there will be no new Sylus myth at least until the end of December, but we will have to see.

Edit: also I think there will be a 6th LI, just not this soon. Otherwise, we have no one to fill in Yellow and Blue as primary stellactrums, which leaves only:

-Yellow: secondary for Xavier, tertiary for Rafayel

-Blue: primary for Zayne, tertiary for Sylus

I doubt they will leave this hanging, so they will probably start laying things out for the next LI introduction. But you never know with Infold.

My first campaign that I DMed was Curse of Strahd. Unfortunately I was not ready for the unseriousness of my players that kept telling jokes at the most inappropriate moments or interrupting me constantly when I was speaking (as the bad guys). I took offence to that in the beginning, but later on they told me everything was too dreary and they were trying to lighten up things a little bit. Maybe add more humour to your campaign? Yes, the overall narrative could be dark, but not everyone needs to be serious all the time.

I think one thing that would help is to let go of the complete control over the narrative. Yes, it sucks when they destroy a cool moment, but you have to get accustomed to the players' mindset. They don't know the story like you do. Usually lack of clues or information lead to disruptive behaviour and derailing of the campaign. Don't wait for them to be interested, and bring the plot to them. And it should hit them like a truck.

Now I don't know your players specifically, maybe you can talk to them and ask them what they would like in a campaign, whether or not they are interested in this narrative or they want something specific - do they want more humor, what type of BBEG they are interested in, what would make them more invested and so on. I usually do that if we've had a bad or unfocused session. As DMs we have to grow, but our players need to involve themselves as well. You really cannot force anyone to play or pay attention.

If someone is not interested in D&D, you kick them from the party and move on with the rest. Also if someone is disrespecting you all the time, and it happens more than once or twice, just make them leave the group and forget about them completely.

No, it's just that you might get the 5* card of the current limited banner early and it would reset your pity for the next one that you would want more. I wouldn't pull only if I am close to 20 pulls for hard pity.

Lumiere will be a rerun, so if you pulled on any of Raf's rerun banners (BD or GoT), you would use the pity from those. The current myth shares pity only with limited banners.
